Today on the channel, the rather lovely but oft-forgotten Range Rover Holland & Holland. Following on from the disastrous and overpriced Linley, the H&H aimed to bring a touch of class to the already glamorous Range Rover P38 in its dying day - so what makes it special, and how much is one now?

My personal anecdote about Holland & Holland: back in the 80's, my father was working overseas in Aberdeen when he was invited on a company shoot. Needing a set of guns, he rang up my more firearms knowledgeable uncle who recommended he try H&H. He visited their store in London and from his account, was treated absolutely amazingly. He was shown the whole process of making a gun for him and was even sized for one. It was then the salesman told him the price. He had a few choice words for my uncle the next time they talked. Fantastic company and even if you can't afford their products, they will treat you with respect and answer any questions you have.

This is a Great and fantastic video displaying and highlighting the story about the Special Edition P38 Holland and Holland. I happen to own one here in the USA. I own # 148. I remember when this car was new and saw it up close. I fell in love with it immediately and vowed I’d own one at some point. Fast forward years later and I got an absolute mint example. Mine is in perfect condition, complete service history, and has all the possible accessories the car came with. Picnic tables, luggage bags, picnic kit, gun box in boot, floor mats, boot liners, window sticker and sales brochures ect. It is my pride and joy and very proud to own it. In summary, this car is an incredible example of a great partnership with Holland and Holland gunmakers and the Range Rover Vehicle. They just go well together and is a lovely collaboration. It took the standard car which is already the best, and made it even better and more exclusive. I’ve seen a lot of British cars and this one is the most posh and luxurious in my opinion. It Truly is a brilliant car, so unique, so British, so luxurious, so exciting. A go anywhere car, mixed with a beautiful work of bespoke craftsmanship that made it a Limited Edition. Thank you for this video and highlighting this car.

I was an 18year old engineer apprentice at Land rover in 2000 when the P38 was being sold. I remember the 4.6HSE being highest on the list of vehicles apprentices can drive needing to be the heady age of 24! Seemed an eternity away! But that leather smell was sumptuous!

P38 is my favorite Range Rover, followed by the pre-facelift, BMW-powered L322. Love those too. But of all Range's, the P38 is the most dearest one to my heart. Maybe it was because it was the one brand-new during my childhood (even though I've only seen very few of 'em here), but...I just can't get enough of it.

Because it is Land Rover, a collaboration with a gun manufacturer went unnoticed until you pointed it out 😁 I knew nothing about Holland and Holland until, after a mere 25 years leaving a couple of miles away from it, I stumbled across their shooting grounds in Northwood/Ruislip. I had a tour and a coffee. I spent so long in there that I was informed they were closing for the day and, when I got home, I realised that I’d left without paying! I left a message on their answer service and went back in the following day and paid only for the drinks on that occasion as they wouldn’t let me pay for my previous visit 😀 I also got a chance to reacquaint myself with ‘Gary’ the gun dog, a beautiful Beagle that was only happy when outside and covered in mud 😀 had a chat about him with his owner and left. Charming place and people. Have since returned with my mother too 😀 Oh yeah, back to the car.. another car/gun maker collaboration? Aston Martin ‘Shooting Brake’? 😇 great vid. Love the screens, I put an Xbox in the back of my E39 5 series in 2002 and kept the car until last year, by which time I had upgraded the front to an Android unit and the rear to a PS3 when the Xbox finally died. 😀

Another excellent video Jay. A good interior is so important. I remember when cooperating with Austin Rover in the early eighties my contact saying that the quality of the interiors was one of the reasons Honda worked with them on the Acclaim/Accord. The quality of our interiors should not be underestimated.

The first car I remember us having was an Austin Westminster 3 litre. It was grey and Maroon with a red leather interior, it had a bench seat and column change. I absolutely loved that car, the interior made me feel special, unlike the many A40 farina's we had after that. I also remember getting a lift, when I was 5 (1970) in my mates mums MK2 Jag. And that was something else. The leather, the wood the purr of the straight 6 engine. I fell in love with that car. I had to wait some 50 years before I owned my first Jag. I'd had Lexus, BMW, Mercedes and all good cars in their way, when I bought the Jag, the interior made feel like I was 5 years old again and in that MK2. Again the leather, the Walnut, the purr of the engine, it was sublime. But then I bought my X351 XJ portfolio and the interior in that is the best I've ever had by a country mile. It just makes me feel epic. The style, the smell of the leather, the contrast stitching, the two tone colour scheme. Jaguar are streets ahead of the competition with interiors.

Incidentally, I worked part time for Land Rover as an instructor and at the launch of the P38 in Australasia, against orders and probably my better instincts, with a lot of Press gathered at the top of a steep hill waiting to snap this huge car cresting the hill.... The Brown leather, wood door panels and trim, and Holland & Holland Badges. Such a special car. Subsequently, we also looked at a P38 Rhino Edition from the same owner. Both cars had very special interiors. Given the collectability of these now, both cars are on my list of "should-have & could-have" cars.

Quality of leather, wood, switchgear, etc. is only ever lightly touched upon. Knowing what goes in to crafting these items is far more impressive than just the result.

Always thought that the P38 was exactly what RR should've been for the time. Still chunky styling but more modern... but still analogue. Royal Enfield were smallarms manufacturers - I have a Bullet 500 in my living room - but, y'know, two wheels.
As for interiors; you'd have to go a long way to find something more fascinating or outstanding than that offered by TVR. Tuscan and Chimera being particular favourites. Don't care if it was ergonomic or not - I could look at that styling all day...

As I inevitably age, interior quality and suspension refinement have taken priority over outright performance. I recently bought an L10 Lexus GS 450h with all the bells and whistles, including the premium semi aniline leather. Ivory leather with a matte walnut trim and a sunroof. It's my absolute favourite place to be, even nicer than my wife's E61 with tobacco nappa interior. The quality of the interior as a whole is impeccable, free of creaks and rattles. Even the sound system, something which normally doesn't matter all that much to me, is of such impressive clarity that it adds to the experience of the car. Of course it's still decently quick when you engage sport mode but I find myself just enjoying the journey in eco mode 99,9 percent of the time. It really feels like being in a luxury resort. I guess the quick summary is: I'm getting old.

Totally agree about the importance of a car's interior - its the view and experience of the car that you have all the time you're driving it - it might look amazing from the outside, but you don't see that from the driver's seat...
For me this car is summed up by the shot of the interior door handle - bespoke quality metal handle, with an exposed screw head in the trim behind it.... Range Rovers are beautiful things, but for me, the P38....wasn't...
    My run-out was more mechanical - the mk1 Golf GTI, which got a 1.8 instead of 1.6 engine in a roller-skate :)
    (Was very black inside though)

Honestly, the best interior I’ve ever seen was the Jenson Interceptor S4. Which most people don’t know ever existed. It was minus the trademark goldfish bowl rear window. I sold one of the first to Saudi.

Saw an overfinch range rover last year and thought "that seems like a blatant copy of a range rover." First I thought it was Ssyangong or some other new company i've never heard of. Then I found out that no, they're a specalist firm that modifies range Rovers, and yes, they do have a Holland & Holland range Rover. Looks quite nice. Should do with all the attention to detail put in.

Overfinch were one of the popular luxury modifiers of Range Rovers, quite popular amongst footballers and musicians

There is a pickup (Mitsubishi or Toyota or Nissan), that has an 'Edition', named after a gun manufaturer.
I've seen quite a few of them around, but can't recall the name.

Kalashnikov Autos. Built one car costing in excess of $350,000 I believe they sold none but I could be wrong there, as no one would actually put their hands up to admit owing one. Good video as always.

I guess one could kind of count all the "Overfinch" Range Rover models in collab with Holland&Holland (& some high end booze producers), as they were developed outside of Range's range. And if we count in the McLaren & Lockheed Martin Skunk Works partnership , we could like "kinda go there" as LMSW is a weapons development facility ... Strangely enough nothing out of 'Merica , which should be a given ... Nothing but Eddie Bauer , Harley Davidson & some '80s obscure Americon cognac brand ... weird

Not the link you were asking for, but a gun-maker made a car... Sort of. There were two bespoke "Ruger Sports Tourer" automobiles built in 1969 by the co-founder of Sturm, Ruger & Co. firearms.
