    I bought a base model Samsung LED 75" TV for my living room on Black Friday sale for under $500, paired it with a Samsung surround 5.1 mid range sound system with voice enhancement and Dolby Atmos and a more than powerful enough sub, all for about One G. This is to replace a seven year old Samsung 57" LED TV which I gave to my college son. Best one thousand dollar home theatre and I love it. I'm watching movies and listening to music with all the clarity and sound stage and boom that I am absolutely enjoying every bit of it. Are there better technologies out there? yes of course, and will always be. But I'm more than satisfied.

    Hi there, great reviews and info. I am completely out of the loop on the latest tech on TV's and apps etc. I watch very little TV but I do watch a fair amount of CZcams videos and some shows and occasional movies. I am looking for an easy convenient non confusing system. I am already confused about the smart TV's versus Roku and Fire stick etc. Do many of the low to mid price Tv's offer the blue light dimming option? Does the Roku and Firestick tv have monthly charges? What low to mid price TV's would you recommend for longevity and clear crisp picture? thanks so much!

    The problem here is cnet has tested only a small number of models which is inexcusable for technology based website. Katzmaier hasn't tested a number of Sony televisions such as the A90J, A80J and X95 which compete very well against the LG OLED and Samsung QLED televisions.
    The A90J is arguably the best television you can buy money no object. It has what is called a heatsink behind the panel which allows the TV to dissipate heat more efficiently and hence is able to push specular highlights hard without fear of image retention.
    The A80J competes with the C1 on price but has better overall video processing. The C1 is better for hardcore gamers.
    The X95J competes with the QN90A and arguably has better overall PQ. Currently the X95J costs more but I suspect it will come down in price as we get deeper into the Holiday season.
    No one will probably believe me but I don't own a Sony and have no plans to do so. I just think it's pretty blatant that cnet has their best list but hasn't reviewed a notable part of the mid to high end television market.

      I just read your post and couldn't agree with you more. You've obviously done your homework and know more than CNET. I'm in the market for a new TV and wished Sony put out a A90J in 77" so I'm back to deciding on the Sony A80J 77" or a Samsung QN90 77or the Sony X95J 77.

    How long does 4k tv last, how many years before needing a new tv?

    • @scottyballz6447
      @scottyballz6447 Pƙed 2 lety +12

      It should last for 10+ years if you take care of it. In terms of 4k resolution as a technology, well, consider when 1080p TVs came out. Bought Samsungs with 1080p resolution in 2008 and 2009. 10-12 years ago, that's like the stone age, when you consider technology advances. However, many TV broadcasts are still in 720p or 1080p. 4k content has really just taken off in the last few years. The new cutting edge, which is 8k, hardly has any application at this point and in fact, buying 8k TV is not something you need, unless you're buying Samsung's "The Wall" or something ridiculously large, which if you are, well money is no object so who cares. It is difficult to discern pixelation on even large screens at 4k, even sitting very close. I'd expect it to last for a good while.

I'm at someone else now who has a 4K Samsung LED and the image is total garbage. The same material on the 4K TV is far behind our 1080p set from 13 years ago. Even the color is worse. LED backlight has a appaling spectrum, resulting in a bluish image with very pale reds and a greenish tint over everything. CCFL has a warm tone with excellent gamut and colour rendition.

    Thinking about how 1280x720 is called 720p, 1920x1080 is 1080p. But 3840x2160 suddenly received the name "4K"? And to top it all off, calling it 4K is rounding up an imaginary 160 pixels. That's like calling 1080p "2K" and 720p "1.5K" but no manufacturer did that. Sure it looks better but it's inherently a gimmick by name. Just wondering why the "K" thing started with the 2160p resolution specifically.

      Correct. LCD televisions can get much brighter and those have much more impactful high APL HDR and higher color volume. But OLED has much better light control and does a better job with low APL HDR - small specular highlights such as stars, street lambs, car lights are actually brighter. Currently there isn't an affordable display technology that exceeds at both. OLED is still considered the best display technology among videophiles but it has a smaller usage case. The average consumer probably prefers the brightness of LCD.

    I still think the CRT and the 1080p TVs we're still better than 4K for many reasons the 4K seem to glitch on the films when I went on Disney plus the thing was like glitching even with HBO Paramount when you watch a cartoon it was like glitching I don't know what the deal on that is

    • @2kBofFun
      @2kBofFun Pƙed rokem

      If I plug a 1080p TV into my computer, it gives you 24/25/30/50/60p framerates to choose from. Every video I throw at it is totally smooth. 24p movies, 50p PAL TV shows, 60p CZcamss. When I connect a 4K TV to a computer, it only gives a 3840x2160 option at either 30 or 60p. Impossible to playback a 24p movie without judder. Even worse, parts of the video get interpolated to 100Hz or so, but every second it has a hiccup.

    4K TVs are a complete joke. Who needs that many pixels crammed onto a screen? It's just a stupid gimmick that's completely pointless. Who needs to see every little bit of detail and sharp image? I mean, come on. You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a TV just so you can see the wrinkles on some actor's face a little clearer. It's ridiculous. Give me my old-school CRT and a 1080p TV any day of the week. Those 4K TVs are just a waste of time and money.
