I started the camino as a lonely scottish guy with a “funny” accent and finished in santiago accompanied by 8 other people from all over this wonderful globe. It was thee best experience of my life and the feeling you gain from it is unimaginable. Im not religious however spiritually I had never felt so free in my life. When in life you’re distracted by so many things then you find yourself walking at 6am watching the sunrise and all you feel is gratitude. I would re-do the camino de santiago in a heartbeat.
Physically and mentally the camino helped me out, I lost sooo much weight(in a good way) and mentally felt free from the grey of life.
P.s Don’t want to sound like a hipster, you know, the ones that claim they went to Bali once and it was life changing, well the camino was that for me :).

      5 times ??? Wow, you're so awesome !!!
How long does it take you to finish one ?
Also, do you mind to share your experience, like average how long do you walk per day ?
Do you carry all your gears with you along the way ?
Is there a service to help with baggage ? Because I did the Inka Trail 4 days 3 nights, and day 3 I couldn't carry my bag anymore, so I had to pay for people to carry my backpack for me, not cheap at all but my back can't handle carrying stuff for long.
Thanks and sorry for asking so many questions !

@@alexquyenvo5196 thanks for your interest. The Camino de Santiago has many routes, some short (just over 100 km, e.g. Camino Ingles) while a few are quite long like the Camino Frances (over 900 km) which also happens to be the most popular. The more frequented routes have the advantage of having more support services available (e.g. albergues, shops, cafes, clinics and even transport services). I work out a daily schedule of how many km to cover (for me doing 20-25km is ok) but keeping in mind the availability of services when deciding where to end my walk for the day. As for carrying your gear all the way, I have learned to pack light (lesson learned from my first camino when I tried to bring everything but the sink) and keep to the basics; other things can be bought along the way. You can find out about transport services from the albergues you plan to stay. The hospitaleros would have that information. Yes, some of the fees aren't cheap (though sending backpacks with a group is more affordable) but I'd rather pay this than spend more on physiotherapy later. I hope you will get to go. Buen Camino!

@@Marianchua thank you for your quick response !
Do you mind sharing the website to get the information for different routes, like with this route at about certain km there will be a place to rest at night, because I've been watching videos about different routes but can't find the place that gives me the information about where to sleep at night and how to book them ahead. I heard many places it's like walk in only, no booking ahead, for hostals.
Thanks again and sorry to bother you with questions again !

We just completed the last portion of the Portugese Camino with two close friends. It was an amazing experience but I really only absorbed the enormity of this journey with just two days left. I was too absorbed in walking and getting to our next destination. We always seemed to be lagging to take photos or engage in extended conversations with new friends. I also carried too much weight in my backpack so towards the end of the day it felt like I was carrying 50 pounds. Take the time to self reflect and really ENJOY your walk. You might never have the chance to do a Camino again.

You forgot the very reason for doing a pilgrimage- that of paying homage to St. James (the apostle). If it were not for this reason there would not have been a tradition in the first place of doing the Camino.

    • @bruney74
      @bruney74 Před 4 lety +8

It was a vey old route. According to some historians pre-dating Christianiy, then it was a route for Celtic sun adoration, following the sun to the end of the world (source of the sea shell = sunrise marking). Then later it became a Christian route. So there has been a tradition going back for centuries, and it was adopted into Christianity through St. James.

You CZcams Bozos REALLY screwed up my Camino by (you are a *perfect* example) NEVER mentioning how physically difficult the Camino really is. You don't know who is watching your video. I'm 62 years old, in OK shape for your typical American. The Camino is a *Serious* and *Difficult* hike for many people. Climbing the Pyrenees is no joke; yet you talk about "self reflection" and "Gastronomy", never mentioning the difficulty. You are doing a huge disservice to MANY people that are older, have physical limitations, etc.highly recommending something some people shouldn't be doing, or at least without A LOT of training, so you can watch yourself on CZcams.

The only one that can under prepare you for the camino is YOU. You are responsible for yourself. This video was just highlighting the reason to do it. There are plenty of other videos along with blogs that walk through how to prepare for the camino. And even without videos and blogs, you would still be able to figure out very quickly with just a map how difficult it may be based on the length alone.

AccumbensNucleus you can find disabled people doing the route . Find here in CZcams a documentary called Ill push you I think is called , is the story of a disabled man doing it. Plus in all the videos you see people that are not young at all . The point if the pilgrimage is to test yourself in many ways, is not supposed to be easy.

Andy B. Not sorry for myself at all. Just wish people would give accurate information.
It’s as if I made a video about how great it is to become a United States Marine, the pride and sense of accomplishment, but skipped the part about basic training at Paris Island.
