    To be fair on this Terminal, i just got one and i love it, they've had alot of updates since then and it works amazing, i also feel like it would better for a store with a lower amount of constant traffic like retail.

    Hello Gary, great video, and thank you for taking the time to walk us through Square Terminal in your busy operation. I just purchased the Square Terminal for my food festival business, but for 10 years used the iPad Mini on my food truck that connected to a Bluetooth Star printer. I purchased the terminal because I wanted something more compact and something that was all-In-one, with regards to the payment system. Seeing that I would be mobile, I purchased and $10/month 2G Hotspot plan from T-Mobile, and they gave me an Alcatel Hotspot device for free. Would this solution work for your business as it eliminates the need to have a phone hotspot available?

      It's a really great device on its own to get customers in-n-out quickly. Support for other cash drawers could be easily updated by Square via a firmware update which they push out nightly. Bug them often with your cash drawer's make and model to add them in a future update.

    Mine has trouble detecting touch and it randomly selects digits. My Square POS screen keeps turning on and off on its own, hitting random digits for the passkey. When I try to cash out a customer and I want to say, enter $20, the device may type in 23566. I have to restart the damn thing constantly so that it works properly when I need it. It also freezes at least once a day.

    You don't need an apple product to connect the terminal to the internet. Most smartphones have the capability of hosting a hotspot. You can connect it to almost any phone. Also, you can buy dedicated mobile wifi hotspot devices. They create mobile wifi networks that are connected to the internet through the cellular network. That way, if you have various people working with the terminal, this no one phone stays in the area to be the hotspot, you can just use the mobile hotspot which can stay in the area. It simple to get and setup. Also it's nice because you don't have to reconfigure your terminal when changing locations, just keep it near the terminal.
    As for the bluetooth connection to the printer not working, I'm about 95% sure the terminal doesn't have bluetooth capabilities.
    Also, I wasn't sure why you couldn't have the printer and the terminal on the same wifi network. If you were using the ipad as a hotspot, that basically means the ipad is acting like a wifi router. You can connect multiple devices to it via wifi. All you would need to do is configure the printer to connect to the iPad's hotspot wifi network. Once that's done, you can have the terminal connected to it at the same time.

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt Před 5 lety +1

      It's the best one-in-one device you can get, and it's super portable with batteries. All you have to do is turn on the hotspot on your smartphone to give it internet access for processing. And while it costs $399 up front, they will credit you back up to $300 as long as you keep processing cards, for a final cost of just $99 ;)

    Aloha, I'm seriously looking at getting this, but after watching your vids, I'm on the fence. Can't find anything else comparable and I'm already with Square. Do you recommend this device after two years? Does it still have connection issues? The most recent Amazon reviews are both positive and negative, so I can't really be sure. I plan on using the hotspot on my phone for a mobile cart. It's perfect because I don't have counter space on the cart. How long does the battery last on the device? How many receipts does a roll provide? There is hardly any information out there on this. I must say Square is not doing good job showing how this device works, or how it works with its accessories, namely the stand. And when I looked at all the firmware updates, they all say the same thing, "[Bug Fixes] We made a number of other bug fixes and stability improvements to keep you running smoothly. " No details whatsoever! What a disgrace! So, can you PLEASE give us an update? Yay or Nay on this? THANK YOU, for field testing this device, really appreciate it here. I keep getting a sense you really want to like it, but it has not really delivered and has created stressful situations. Mahalo!

    Have the network rep at your event simply add the devices Mac Address to whitelist and resolve. Completely normal in any business venue with splash pages.

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt Před 5 lety

      Or just temporarily clone the terminal's MAC address into a smart phone (via an app), log in with the smartphone, turn off the phone, then try to connect with the card terminal. It should work since the MAC address has already been registered in the public router. Essentially it's the same as asking the admin to whitelist your MAC address. ;)
      Better yet, if you have a hotspot on your phone, I wouldn't even bother with a public WiFi, for both compatibility and security. I've tested it, and works perfectly fine on both iPhone and Android hotpots.

    • @BillAnt

      Don't know, but whenever I have to use it off-line, I just write down the customer's card number, expiration, and 3-digit code on the receipt, have them sign it, then I enter it manually once the the internet connection is available. ;)

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt Před 5 lety

      Probably, but they could add support for any cash drawer via a simple firmware update. It's a not a hardware compatibility issue, but the lack of software drivers. The more you bug them with your particular brand and model,the sooner they will add it. ;)

    Spoof the MAC address of the terminal on your laptop, connect through the public landing page with the spoofed MAC address. Disconnect the laptop and put it back to its normal MAC address. The terminal should now connect right up to the public WiFi since the MAC address has been white listed. I have not tried this myself, as I don't have this device, but in theory it should work just fine.

    No internet? Just get a portable wifi hotspot device and don't worry about piggy backing off someone elses internet.
    Also if cash draw is not fully compatible with it at least you can manually open draw. But then again looks funny having a full size cash draw with such a small device. Kinda defeats the purpose of the whole setup

    I use square at art and craft shows. I use the small bluetooth square. I upgraded (as I thought) to the terminal. The first show I used the terminal at was a disaster. During set up, had to spend an hour on tech support to Square trying to figure why it wouldnt work with the WiFi at the convention hall. Neither private nor public options. The associate recommended a hot spot. That worked ok. But the next day it wouldn't even find the hot spots from either my iphone nor my ipad. I would NOT, NOT , NOT recommend this $300 piece of &*%$.

    Who would buy peripherals for their point of sale without checking compatibility first? Not checking with the printer salesman, checking with the POS manufacturer.
    Buy the correct drawers and printers right from Square so you know they'll work with everything. Even if you can find a cheaper item, how cheap is it when it won't work? Get a $40/mo cellular hotspot that will only be used by the POS systems. Done. No tethering to the owner's phone. No wondering if you'll have wifi without a splash. No wondering if the kitchen printer will work. Why are you making this so complicated?!?
