    Excellent advice you were spot on with everything you were saying. This can do more to save you money than anything else that you do. If you are in brackish water you really need to do this. From our very first boat that we had was inboard outboard I can say as we were moving up in size all together we might have had three of these type of drivetrain. Right away I started reading everything in books magazines and as the internet was becoming what it is today I would turn to that when I would find an article. We have at least three maybe four earmuffs in our garage. Once we moved up to a bigger boat we did not need to do this any longer. Now whenever I get a chance to go fishing I still do a engine flush before anything else is done on the boat. If my wife is here when I get back she comes out with the ear muffs and the hose ready to go. Also got that little kit you have that does make it easier to apply the chemical. Also got the big jug for winterizing. I am a person who believes on working on his own vehicles. It doesn't matter if it's a car truck boat motorcycle Even right down to the yard equipment. My friends laugh at me saying that I'm just a cheap man and that's how I'm able to afford the life that we live. And I always give the same answer. if you are capable of doing something it should not matter what your bank account looks like. Fixing things yourself will keep your bank account where it is usually at and not spending it on something I can do myself.
    My wife was watching this with me and when you showed your boat she punched me and told me no you're not buying that boat. I had to tell her it was about maintenance on your outdrive not an advertisement to buy another boat. A lot of times when I see something I like I put it on the big screen for her to see it.
    Thank you for sharing your information and your experience. I enjoy watching videos of people knowing what to do.

      @@scottnra Hi Scott!
      Yes, there is a bit of political turmoil due to the current government (coalition of liberals and nationals) making few blunders related to COVID with very slow vaccination rate at the beginning of the pandemic due to the shortage of ordered vaccines and scaring people away from locally produced Astrazenica due to blood clots issues, even there was just a few cases with single fatality out of a million vaccinates people.
      People just really tired of harsh states borders restrictions, lock-downs, inconsistent and sudden policy changes etc.
      Basically, there are turned out to be lots of people who believe in possibility of living in a perfect world...and they assume that political opponents (Labor) would have done much better, however the facts are, during the whole pandemic, we lost just over 3000 lives, which I personally think is outstanding result, but nevertheless the current coalition has fallen out of people favor and looks like won't be re-elected. So we will be looking at labor taking the lead in the next federal elections in May.
      Sorry for the long explanation, however I am not a political analyst :-)
      Regarding the flushing procedure, yesterday I have purchased 2 flushing kits plus the actual solution and connected them both to the bottom muffs (with low water pickup covered by the duck tape) and to the top flushing port, started the engine but I just could not get the water to come out of the peeing hole (engine is nearly new Yamaha F300, 2020 with 57 hours), so ended up just using the top flushing port with salt-away solution and flushed it this way twice.
      However I will be buying the large flushing bag today as I would like to get the motor running, with all thermostats open so everything is properly flushed.
      When we go fishing from Gold Coast up to the Capricorn Group (Southern part of the Great Barrier Reef), we tow the boat 600 km north, which takes 7 hours and go away for 3 days, making 300 km on the water and after we come back there are few hours before the engine can be flushed, so I would like to do it as best as I can.
      Thanks a lot again for your great effort with showing people how to take care of their expensive investments :-)
      Kind regards

      @@scottnra Hi Scott
      False alarm on peeing hole issue, I was using the Y-connector which turned out to be a catch..., was reducing the water pressure.
      After switching to two separate hoses all went well, using 2 attachments, one on top flush plug, one on the muffs with engine running, I could see water coming out of the peeing hole.
      Works a treat!
      Thanks again!

    Great info here Scott. I’m in south west Florida and my boat is on the lift year round so the only way I can flush is through the flush ports. Will this salt product help by flushing through flush ports only? Can I run the engines with water pressure at the flush ports only?

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Před 3 lety

      Bob Thomson Absolutely the de-salt will clean almost all of it out with the flush port if you do it while it's still hot. It might leave just a little bit in the water pump itself at the bottom of your lower unit but if you do it from the flush port with the engine hot, it should get everything else great and way better than just plain water.

    • @scottnra

      no...NO. Dont run the engine while using the flush port. Also, start your flush while it's still hot. THat way you'll get all of the passageways. Running the engine with the impeller out of the water can damage it.

      Keith Guin It could be your hose bib or hose. The motor really wants about 8 gpm and most hose only give you about 4 or 5 if you are lucky. A long hose could be even less. You might try the flusher that feeds on both sides and use a short hose. That might help.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Před 2 lety +1

      Dubzy Flushing Its mentioned in the video but when using the flush port, you DON'T run the motor as it can damage the impeller. Also if the engine is cold t-stats will be closed so you don't get all of the water ways. If you use the flush port on a hot engine it gets it all. (no running engine) if you have to flush after it cool off, your better off with muffs or a bag and your desalt solution.

      MrDjSaneR That's a hard one to answer. I would think it would depend on the temperature outside as well. Once the engine cools enough to let the t-state close, muff would be a better choice. Robert Komoroski Absolutely the de-salt will clean almost all of it out with the flush port if you do it while it's still hot. It might leave just a little bit in the water pump itself at the bottom of your lower unit but if you do it from the flush port with the engine hot, it should get everything else great and way better than just plain water. If you can use the muffs it's just easier to warm it up and you get the water pump too.

    My house water pressure is only 35 psi. When I try to use the attachment, it doesn’t have enough to go through the engine just all the port holes in the lower unit, not peeing from the tell tale. Anyway, if I use the earmuffs, is that 35 psi going to be enough pressure?

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Před 4 dny +1

      @shadyfieldhomestead1974 it's not the pressure its the volume that's the problem. Your engine pump isn't dependent on pressure, but it is dependent on have enough water available for the GPM it is trying to flow. I'd be surprised if it worked with that low a pressure on probably a 1/2" line. You'd be better off with a tub like the one in this video: czcams.com/video/3W0DiLMwqHA/video.html

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Před 3 lety +1

      22josta 1. No in fact it helps protect the engine with corrosion inhibitors. 2. You should not run the engine when just using the flush port because you might damage your water pump impeller. BUT if you are stuck on the water and it's already not working/broke, it's going to need replacing anyway. Running the motor from the port will keep the engine cool to get you back to the dock. Just make sure your raw water pickup works while underway. You might have to go slower.

    The desalting fluid works by leaving a coating of the solution on the internal surfaces of the outboard. If you run the water till the solution is clear there will be no solution left to coat the internals. After I pre rinse with fresh water for a few minutes I prefer to run it for only 10 to 15 seconds or till I see the bubbles coming out. I then use the remaining solution on my trailer and under the truck bed, axles , brakes ext that may he…

      @scottnra  Před 2 lety

      Hauoli Reeves If you read the instructions, it recommends flushing until the bottle is clear. The coating doesn't get rinsed off that quick. Bubbles come out for a good while after the bottle clears. Plus it need some time to break down and remove the salt deposits in the engine.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Před rokem

      Joe because if you are running the motor off of the raw water pump to the flush port we are assuming that your water pump is already shot. Running the engine from the flush port can damage the water pump impeller. (We don't care about it if it's already broke and we need to get back to the dock) Make sense?

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Před rokem

      @Ki_jo I can't imagine acid being good inside a mostly aluminum engine. The point of the desalt after every use is to keep the motor from getting loaded up in the first place to avoid that kind of major desalting. For general use, this is safer and quite easy to do with no harm to plants and pets. (or yourself) :-)

    So if the manufacturer says don’t run the motor while you flush using the static flush hose and you say pump water through the static hose with your deck wash pump in case of water pump failure, that is a contradiction. I am ready to be corrected.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Před 3 lety

      David Warren If you HAVE to hook to the static hose to get back to shore because your water pump is broke...it's already broke. You're not going to break it anymore. The reason you don't run the motor when flushing that way is the water pump can be damaged running it "dry". Make sense?

      if your in the water the rubber impellar is lubricated amd cooled anyway even if it is damaged or needing replacement. When out of water being flushed using only the port there is no water on the lower unit water pump, only the engine cooling system on the uphill side pf the thermastat, thus the impellar will melt or tear when used/run without muffs and using the port only. The engine itself will not be damaged, just the water pump.

    Technically you cannot do it correctly with a hose the thermostats will not open so your bypassing you have to have a garbage can to lower the lower unit in to get the water up to temperature with salt away added

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Před 3 měsíci

      Thermostats open on temp which you will get in a minute or two running the engines. You will flush everything on the water side this way according to Yamaha and the mechanics at the biggest dealer in Richmond. :-) That said, some of the larger engines will not let you run muffs due to dual pickups on the lower unit. For those I have the water trough method shown here: czcams.com/video/3W0DiLMwqHA/video.html

    I know it tough, but the best way to flush your motor is to put it into a barrel. It's under pressure like it is on the water. If you want to tune your motor, put it in a barrel. That's how it's going to run on the water.
