Very true. The channels that are constantly ripping started to get me wanting to do it as well...... Then when I wasn't really getting anything opening cases, I re-thought that "strategy" lol
Collected hard during SWSH, stopped collecting at 151 bcuz I wasn’t a fan. Few months ago I discovered Metazoo and found my passion again. Still collecting some pokemon, but only singles and mainly Simplified Chinese. Cheaper and way better quality than English
151 is the best though! Didn’t metazoo end printing ? Did they get bought ? Also simplified Chinese seems like good value but I wonder how it will resell later? Maybe it’s fine because the Chinese market is so big ? 🤷🏻♀️

Im like you i was born in 91 so im a vintage fan boy but i do love modern too. What i have found that works well for me is just buy 1 product of the newest set. If its a main set buy the bb if its a special set buy an etb. Then the rest of my cash goes to vintage psa slabs. This way i can focus on my true love of vintage but still scratch that modern itch while building a cool looking display in my game room. This is just what has worked well for me. When I was trying to go balls to the wall with both i was spending waaay too much.
That’s pretty much the formula for me too but I’ve stepped up my case buying now but initially I was just buying a box of each set but that quickly turned into a few and then cases. It’s really hard to stick to a budget I’ve found. So many deals not enough money or will power 😂🤷🏻♀️
Thank you Orion for this video! Very topical and important to discuss in the hobby and not many people talking about this side of things outside of the BUY THIS BUY THAT BUY MORE
Right the narrative has been moon everything and I hope it works out that way but I’m always keeping an open mind about the pitfalls as well as reminding myself that just because everyone is collecting modern or sealed doesn’t mean I should too. My problem comes from spending too much on vintage because there’s almost no other way to source these cards I’m going after raw other than breaking boxes which I can’t afford so it’s been a struggle for me. But the fomo thumbnails are low hanging fruit I think. 🤷🏻♀️

I have a huge SWSH sealed collection and I let go of most of my modern singles as it just sat and I didn’t enjoy it as I just enjoyed the vintage more. I’ve kept all the shiny eras and sets though. All the Fates are dope sets. Even Paldean. Now I’ve dived deep into vintage Japanese. If and when I go to collecting modern again it’ll be Japanese here and there. Just much better quality and look even in the vintage days. Though I do collect one of every booster box still. ONE DAY the kids of modern will look back and this will be THEIR vintage. That’ll be wild and I’ll feel even older oh gosh 😂 Also not just money but SPACE is a big factor too on what I choose to buy in terms of sealed. I don’t have a garage so I’m limited haha 😢
I’ve always felt like it made more sense to just buy Japanese because of the quality and price difference. The value is there. But unfortunately I do fall victim to wanting to read my cards in English. I do think people will look back on modernity as vintage down the line but I wonder if WOTC will still be popular. It’s hard enough keeping up with the current sets I find it hard to imagine people will come into the hobby trying to collect it all… I did and it rekt my wallet 😂 and in terms of space the best way to collect is probably slabs for space you can store a lot of value in a small space for slabs.😎

its fine if u like collecting your old vintage grails, yes the market isnt moving so thats alot of cash stalling... but its still WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY LESS RIsky than this singles modern market, i wouldnt touch the sword and shield singles era with a 30 foot pool, sealed is an other thing
Is it less risky? I’ve seen some vintage grails fluctuate a LOT in price and that concerns me but I like to think it’s more stable. I’d like to know why you won’t touch modern though, I mean sure it’s new and volatile but has shown growing value too… I’m constantly conflicted 😂🤷🏻♀️
@@orionsires not that i wont touch modern singles at all, i have a few grails from xy and sun moon like latias and latios gx but its because pops are low... pops from sword and shield are just out of this world, and imo once a newer era start having hype, sword and shield will lose alot of it new era will keep stacking and staking and what will be dilluted the most imo are sword and shield singles, so i still think we ll have better opportunity to buy them later on, when were in a bearing market what drives the price down the most? its the highest pop cards because the sales keep chaining downside, when its a lower pop u have less sales so a lesser effect
Collecting is a marathon, not a sprint. I see a lot of people who buy this stuff using debt, and that is not a good move. This should be a hobby and not a reason to pile on consumer debt.
Absolutely agree, and I am definitely guilty of using debt and over leveraging myself and if others are doing this expecting to make big money or flip cards it’s dangerous. Great comment 😎🙏🏼
