Anything you almost bought but then saw it drop hard?
erikas invitation lol
Same here. Have calmed down a lot. Just feel like it’s healthy. No one can run for ever, need to walk ones in a wile.
Well said, we all need to walk in the hobby every now and again. Moderation is key in anything pretty much but it’s hard with so many opportunities and new cards releasing and being printed every other month. 😂
If you don't buy every single one of those themed sets I'm going to tell your wife that you bought 16 booster boxes of temporal forces without her permission!
LOL 😂
Brother, if a really good opportunity comes up, liquidate what you have to that you don't need to buy it, aside from what you're already liquidating for the move. My last move ended up costing me around 10k between first last security and other moving related expenses, but I also had a vintage pokemon collection crop up that needed another 5k...so I just sold 15-20k worth of stuff to cover both.
Trust me I’m all over it in terms of trimming the fat 😎
We the collectors control the Market values entirely. There is no bandwagon to jump on we are the bandwagon. Value is completely subjective and always will be. At the end of the day it's a 2 cent piece of paper. If you get into this hobby as a Job or a investment it will NEVER be stable. Case closed. Prices go up and down because of supply and demand. Once people get the cards obviously they will drop. They print more cards now than ever and reprinted several cards. No one plays the TCG what the card does is irrelevant where that is the SOLE market value determination in Magic cards. Pokemon is literally just art now purely subjective and it shows as the cards are literally just mini posters. Vintage even after it's covid bubble is the most safe bet. There's far less out there and even less in good condition. Anything modern will have millions of copies floating around with thousands upon thousands of PSA 10s. If you are a reseller preying on peoples hobbies you deserve to lose your ass imo. Also fuck venture capitalism it ruined collecting in retro gaming and card collection.
Great write up Dustin I enjoyed reading it as will others I hope 😎
I've pretty much come to a hard stop on collecting any cards in the Pokemon scene (aside from a vintage Japanese or a misc shiny or prism card from previous modern sets). Compared to a couple years ago, I've really narrowed on staying in only a couple lanes instead of trying get them all and complete sets. I am strictly grabbing a single booster box each time to keep sealed. 1) I don't have the cash flow to buy a case let alone cases and 2) I don't have the room to collect multiple boosters of the same set each time they release. As my Dad says, "More power to ya son!" 💪
PS- it is difficult, but you are right about it being healthy. Just takes adjustment like adjusting to a better diet or regime in a healthy way. And yes, a few relapses in the last few months have happened haha.
Hey thanks for the great feedback and support 😎🙏🏼
I think it’s so hard to get a good mix of investing information , playable , collection or a great art information on modern.. any one of those hit the card prices go up..
Sealed boxes around 90 I think is a buy all day long..
Agreed and that sums up what o was trying to say too.. so thank you for adding that bit in your comment. Also I loved the idea of sealed boxes for 90$ but once you have a ton of them it becomes hard to offload them quickly if you need the capital infusion. But agree for the most part it’s a safe bet. 😎
Really like your channel dude keep up the content 👍
Thanks fam! Trying to get back into the swing of things 😎🙏🏼
Imagine if someday pokemon have a little less cards in a set, but more good cards to play!
But it's not that. You can open like 20 packs now with no playable cards at all. I know player base is better but.
After TCG => SCH
Selling Card Hobby
Pokemon Hobby boxes
I kinda get what you’re saying but pull rates will always be trash and I doubt they’ll make any big changes to the 36 pack per box configuration 🤷🏻♀️
Hey man, if you're having any trouble parting with your cars.. I'd recommend just taking them out to a parking lot or cool area and take a bunch of great quality photos of them before you sell them.
Taking photos of my things helped me to part with stuff that I had to get rid of that took up a lot of space, and I think taking photos of them helped give me closure / make me not miss these things nearly as much as I thought I would.
That’s a fantastic way to always feel they are still around. I haven’t totally committed to selling the cars it’s more of a last resort if we get desperate. But I will certainly take some amazing photos and get some closure first. I think you’re 100% right that it would provide closure. 😎
It’s an exciting time for you man and it’s awesome that the hobby can help fund those life changes. I went to Collect a Con this weekend and sold off a small chunk of my slabs, about 15 of them for $3,500 to Bulbastore and Pack Battle. I’ll have to share the time stamps once they put the videos out! Hope to meet you at one in the future!
Aw so you sold em off! Hey man I think that was the right move in this market! Bulba is going crazy with the deals 😎
Hey Orion, I’ve been selling my cards on eBay for about a year and a half and my store is starting to kick off pretty well. Have you had issues with your envelopes not getting their tracking scanned? It seems to happen fairly often and it has booted me out of the Top rated seller category as a result. I would highly appreciate any advice, love your videos man🤙
PWE is amazing IMO I have not had a single package lost or stolen yet. One was returned for weight and I learned since then to just enter the weight precisely but yeah it’s a great way to rack up sales and get your status up as a credible business. People shop with me now not because I’m who I am but because my credibility on the platform is great! Little sales really add up! Was it worth it in the moment? Not really but over time those sales added up and brings peace of mind to future buyers that I know what I’m doing! Now I’d just like to get the fee down a little bit ! 😎
Time to buy 😮
Very well could be a great time to buy 😎 both sellers and buys can benefit right now I think
I know you are a finance major but wouldn't that rental be the best rental of all time of the rent covers the 400k @6% interest? Are you not taking capital expenditures, vacancy, repairs that need to be set aside for the rental and the mortgage of the rental. Usually people are lucky to get 500 in pure cash flow.
Hey so the budget is 4-450 we plan to drop 20% and already have potential renter who’s good for 1500 a month. I need to find another person at 1k or just rent to a couple. I plan to get 2500 a month. My current mortgage is dirt cheap. That’s my rationale behind the situation instead of selling my home which has so many memories associated with it.. where I built the family ya know. 😎
@@orionsires ok gotcha ya that make more sense then ya I'm in the same mindset when I buy my first house and what I will do with it after when on to the second!
Yeah I think refining your collection to its most valuable and sentimental parts is a good idea.
I got lucky and won some auctions way under comps, so I'm probably gonna flip those, might crack the slabs and resubmit, but that might be pushing my luck.
Thanks yeah I think so too and that’s great if you can flip some stuff short term just means you’ll learn about the market and maybe turn a dollar into two ya know 😎
That would be sick if you do end up picking up that theme deck collection. I just picked up one of your Neo ones a day ago. Can't wait to add it to my display shelf with my others.
I don’t think they are willing to go as low as I’d like so probably not :/ was a super cool opportunity I’ll probably also regret down the road oh well there’s always another opportunity 😎
They all keep climbing over time. Kids destroy cards at a fast pace. 20 / 30 years from now the kids buying today will be buying then. And opening today's. And past boxes. To remember there families when they were young.
Tru tho. Black Friday deal and Christmas time are the best times to buy for cheap.
This is the general theory it’s gonna be cool seeing how it unfolds and seeing history repeat itself 😎
@@orionsires best advice buy the case is best.
I held off on getting the Roaring Moon EX until last month, and I'm glad I did. Went down the predictable 50% so I picked up several.
Roaring moon is a sweet card btw 😎
Good disicipline bro. Stay strong in focusing on non discretionary expenses first and only putting money in the hobby with extra cash.
Absolutely or by flipping stuff and using profits only. Easier said than done when you are a collector at heart before an investor or seller. Thanks for the support 😎
Taking a break once in a while is nothing but healthy. You can get into tunnel vision really fast with pokemon and watching the market and all it's pumpers every single day.
The fomo is still heavy even though your rational side tells you this can't 10x tomorrow. For me I rationalized spending heavily by I can just sell this. And you can but I'd argue most people will not get market price for their items and if you have to liquidate you will get even lower and then fees and shipping and time.
It's fun but I had to come to the realization that I for myself don't want to treat this hobby as an investment because that is how you will burn out in the long term if you overspend even slightly which is so easy to fall into in this hobby.
Since I stepped back from this notion I regained the fun that brought me back to pokemon in the first place, before it was more like an addiction.
Great comment fam, and pretty much summarizes how I need to approach things. You are absolutely right when it comes to selling to get market minus fees and so forth leaving you with less than what you initially put into it. Even sets that have aged and are off PC. It’s not rocket science but it’s easy to make some bad decisions and then it ruins the experience for sure. So taking a step back will be good. I don’t want it to be in vain though. If anything I’m just focusing on saving but keeping an open mind about selling. Thanks for watching and for the support brother😎
Nice video
Thanks Taki! 🙏🏼
Thanks for the video brother Orion
Thanks Dan 😎
Damn you! That $20 super chat I sent you in the live stream was for the house, not another theme deck
😂 guilty
yup all these other poketubers said all prices jumping buy buy buy two months later prices crashing LOL
Again, not saying prices are crashing per se but it’s definitely a hype bubble sometimes and I feel stupid ranting about it but it’s just how I feel. I think most of the time waiting pays off in this hobby. Also sealed and singles can workout nicely as long as you aren’t buying into all time high bubble prices. I keep learning the hard way! 😂😎
You’re crazy buying a house in this economy
Trust me I know 😂
Careful buying a house right now, but as long as you can afford to maintain both houses without being forced into tapping into any equity in the short road. Short of that if your long on the housing market you may be OK. Peace Brother!
I know the rates are wild but there’s far less competition, we can always refi and the houses are starting to really pop up in our area and it’s nice to see some actual options as opposed to the bidding wars these past few years 😂
"dont fall into the hype" - buys a house ..... good luck man
Yeah I mean my growing family NEEDS a bigger house. I don’t NEED more cards. Simple. Also the card market continues to fall for a lot of modern stuff. Just saying.. 😎
Scarlet and violet eras suck!!!
A lot of people feel this way but it has its moments
