- This is a 3hr+ Time lapse of my Mobile Drilling Rig from my "Hardcore Automation Nation Survival Series" on YT... Specifically designed to dig a large hole to start my Main Underground Base... The resources it produces are just an added bonus... I have minefield drones around the drill for meteor protection etc. as well as a Cargo Drone Ferrying Ingots back to my temporary base as the Drill has 2 Basic Refineries..........

I recorded this in my YT Survival Series world with Creative tools ON so my character wouldn't die of hunger etc. throughout the recording.
I have also combined the Timecode video in, so it shows the elapsed time.

I Currently have 800+ Hours of in-game Space Engineers play, weather if I'm building and testing my designs or actually playing a survival game, in saying that I play/record when I can, around work (Chef) and my 2 y/o Son. :)
(I quickly gained 80 hours watching and testing my Digital Clock haha)

This is the perfect way to set up an area for a slightly underground base, the floors completely flat and the area well defined for how large it can be. Nice

So, you could have a ship printer print these out, and Von Neuman a planet to bits. This is a nice concept that scales up very well.

Solar power... the planet friendly and green way to strip-mine.... :)
Can also be done by using Ice to Hydrogen then into an engine to make more Power AND to allow it to fly around itself (MK.2)

In my 14 years of chefing, I've never made a Bundt cake haha, nor tasted I think lol... hope you enjoyed ✌
The rig is similar to what I used on Europa some time back. It was completely hydrogen powered, since there was tons of ice. Had onboard basic refineries to take care of most ores, and was ejecting most of the ice. I would pick a drilling location and stick a merge block in the middle of it, just fly my rig over and attach to the merge block and start it running.

would there be any way to pick it up and move it to another location? i cant see to clearly, but does it have its own thrusters or would it need a specially built ship to pick it up if one wanted to move it?
The version you see is an old release which needed a drone to move it but... I have since added H2 Thrusters etc for self flight with the Blueprint you download from the Workshop... hope you enjoy as I'm currently going through all my BP designs and updating/altering them to make sure they all work (I've started with Drones first and will eventually get to the Mobile Drill once more)

Is there a way to operate this manually and make it start on the 2nd or 3rd circle? Mine drilled all the way down closest to the frame. then got stuck at the bottom. When I E-stopped it, everything retracted but now it wants to start from the beginning.
Absolutely you can... let me double check and I will get back to you ASAP (just rendering today's video currently)
Just double checked my Drill and to trigger it to start the 2nd layer is to trigger the "Timer 2 Pistons OUT 1" Timer, which should turn the drills on, extend the arm pistons, turn ON & rotate the Rotor and to start the next Timer in the sequence which would prepare it to start the next layer to trigger by bringing the drill up to the top then out to finish the final, 3rd layer... ✌ Hope this helps and all goes well...
