    @5:50 one of the worst weaknesses of the spotting model in these old Combat Mission games is that MOVING vehicles do not receive nearly the penalty they should. ...oh my and again here @13:55
    Your PLATOON of tanks sitting in a tree line is spotted over-and-over again by German tanks that MOVED up...saw them...stopped, rotated turrets...fired...AND WERE STILL NOT SEEN by the British "waiting in ambush". I am 'not' saying it is impossible, just that it is routine in the game and that is wrong.

    19 tanks and tank destroyers would be a significant chunk of the available German armor at the time. Plus, the Germans are never going to get that capability back. The Brits will have more tanks available and be able to crew them using the surviving tankers as cadre. It really was a downward spiral for the Germans from ‘44 on

  • @annoyedbipolar7424
    @annoyedbipolar7424 Před 9 měsíci +5

    This may have been the bloodiest battle yet, but you still hold the line.
    While you probably can't withstand another attack like that from the Germans, the Germans also can't withstand sending another attack like that.
    I don't wanna be Private Fritz explaining to Kommander Klaus that in one hour we lost a battalion worth of Panzer 4s and accompanying infantry.
    Also given your positioning and the quality of the German attack I personally don't think the Germans are recovering many of their armored losses. Even if they do they likely won't be meaningfully repaired in the remaining time frame of the war.
    (UK vs German armor "recovery" was very different. The UK is more conservative with "last light count" marking functioning tanks at the end of the day. Meanwhile, the Germans would call any chassis they still had regardless of functionality as part of the active force. That's why Germany "lost" 15 Tigers during their crossing into the Nederlands. They were already dead-weight wrecks that were shed on the way.)
    Adding up all the battles off the top of my head this campaign you've been out fighting an entire SS panzer division. (yes technically you've been fighting detachments from multiple different divisions in the area. Division sizes vary wildly based on a metric tonne of different variables. For sure a regiment has been rendered non-combat functional.)
    Some units and equipment are overrepresented (e.x. armored scout cars) or not available (e.x. AA batteries and quartermasters.) for this example.
    You've functionally destroyed a company of rare heavy tanks (The Cats of previous missions), over a battalion of medium tanks, an assault gun company, an entire recon company (at least), and close to a 1,000-trained Heer.
    It takes years to train/equip formations back to the level you've taken them from.
    The Germans are clearly in the middle of their diminishing returns phase of the war as these repeated failed attacks and counterattacks need to go perfectly with practically no losses to be justifiable.
    Maybe someone in the comments (or probably me in my free time) should go back through and keep a running total of losses so we can compare them to the real-life results. Armored wise you've already outperformed your IRL counterparts.
    (I'm aware the campaign tracks losses but it loses its depth. "tanks" could be a Panzer 3 to a Jagdpanther for instance.)

    • @usuallyhapless9481
      @usuallyhapless9481  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Well, the caveat in CM is that the AI has a much higher threshold for giving up disastrous counterattacks than the real Germans did, so enemy losses are likely to be higher. And again, it's a pity the wrecks are persistent between missions. That would make counting everything a lot easier!

    • @annoyedbipolar7424
      @annoyedbipolar7424 Před 9 měsíci

      @@usuallyhapless9481 That's fair. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that initiative and "disobedience" were rewarded if it was a success "worth the cost" in German high command.
      Maybe this commander is seeking more glory compared to IRL.
      Maybe they have a grudge from the Great War still.
      Maybe the actual usable number of tanks was improperly counted IRL.
      (As mentioned in the above comment this was a common problem that even on paper full strength elite German units suffered from.)
      Maybe it was just "a good day to die."
      Maybe I just like making excuses...
      The world may never know.
