late comment so you probably wont see but... to me Arlong is a character that WILL keep his word and nami has been around him long enough to know that. If nami had actually payed him the 100mil he would have set the village free. Which is why he exploited a loophole by having nezumi steal it. He could have just let nami give him the 100m and refuse to release the village but that would be breaking his word right, so he instead has a third party steal the money and thus nami cant pay him meaning the village doesn't get set free because she didn't keep her end of the deaal. Companies exploit these loopholes in contracts like this all the time.
In regard to the not telling the village, i think its about not giving them hope incase she cant meet the requirements of the deal. better to have them hate her than to have them have faith in her saving them only for her to possibly fail them. in her eyes.

Both of these are really good points!! Didn't even occur to us that he was exploiting a loophole!

well yeah, in the manga, whole villagers know about Nami's plan. I think they changed that here to make her more aloof, while doubling down her seriousness and stakes (shes also way less tense in the manga). but yeah it's still works for me mainly due to emily rudd's acting in that very moment--which is somewhat sacred scene for OP fans (:

One day, reading the manga or watching the anime, or if the live action goes up to this moment, you will understand why Arlong acts the way he does. You will understand, without excusing it, but you will understand. For Oda, even some villains have very sad reasons for being the way they are.

Nami wasn't running to try and catch the Marines, she was running toward the village to warn them. Out of all of the scenes in this season, I think the two that stand out the most and galvanized even the devout followers of the anime and manga were: Zoro and Mihawk's fight, and most of all the scene from 23:00 onward. Specifically, where Nami cries out Arlong's name, stabs her arm, and has the interaction with Luffy, then Luffy's response.

    • @KennyandLindsayWatch

Oh so she was running a different direction, got it, I feel real dumb for that one lol. Where those scenes galvanizing because they play out differently? Or are they just such important scenes that some thought the LA didn't do it justice?

Since they reimagined the Anime I would have liked to see that Kiya hearing about Namis problem not only gave them / Usopp the Going Merry but also gave her the berry she needed to make up the amount she needed as a gift/investment in Coco village so she sends her legal team to retrieve the confiscated money.

I mean she was a kid when she made the plan, she tried to live on the hope that she would save her village.

I mean yeah, but I made tons of plans as a kid that I refined and changed as I got older so....

Makes total sense! I have no idea how many times she has come back to the island before this episode (or if the island has the awesome snail phones) to even let folks know what her plan was.

@KennyandLindsayWatch Every village has at least one snail phone, if not many. At least, if they are World Government vassals. Gotta keep communication open if you want your empire to run well after all.

you had Garp a bit mixed up here. The conversation with Zeff wasn't indicating that Garp was a pirate. Garp did not see Gold Roger die and decide to change sides. I think you forgot the first scene in episode 1 (understandable, it was a long time ago) Garp was the one who gave the order to kill Gold Roger. Now i have to wait for the last episode... I have just watched all your episodes over the last 5 days.

Completely forgot, makes sense now! and thank you so much! We already filmed the last episode and just need to edit and get it out (should be out in a couple days!)

I get why Nami wouldn't tell her sister or anyone else. She was bearing the sins she was going to have to commit alone. Nami has been a part of that crew and assisted them with all the evil crap they've done for 8 or 9 years. She's helped them plunder and slaughter plenty of other villages in order to save her own. In this show I think it's that she didn't want her sister to be involved with that world. Arlong says it himself, when he credits her in helping them achieve all they've done.

    • @KennyandLindsayWatch
      @KennyandLindsayWatch  Před 6 měsíci +1

Ohhh that's a really good point. Might not have applied when she was young, but yeah I guess as she got older and had that shame/guilt then she probably wouldn't want her sister to know all she had done. Thanks for the comment!

@@KennyandLindsayWatch there are quite a few more feats of strength in the manga/anime, even Luffy's fighting is way more over the top than here, but it was just really hard to adapt everything to a live action and the thing is the more the story progresses the harder it will be to adapt whats happening. For example (small spoiler) there are islands in the sky

LOL guys you took so long! I thought you have droped this series! And yes, Nami was too naive in taking Arlong word. About the fishmen, yes there are "fishwomen" too, but you have to understand that Arlong folk is a pirte crew, so naturally just the vicious and cruel male fishmen take part of this group.

So much for the goofy pirate show, huh? This is basically One Piece in a nuttshell. A goofy pirate manga set in a very cruel and unjust world
In the manga Luffy doesnt know anything about Nami's backstory. While Nojiko tells the crew everything, Luffy is not even there and he's taking a nap. He doesnt need to know whats going on, his friend is in need of help and thats all that matters to him

This is the worst series in the world, it has no connection at all, and it lacks a lot of important details that they never used. As for the real One Piece, the anime One Piece is just the best, nothing else, and the talk is over.
