What I find funny is Piper lets me configure each zone of my Logitech G703 separately. Something you cannot do with the windows software. Though there is an amusing bug with the mouse where it will randomly swap the zones colors with one another.
Hey, everything has a price right?
If you're using a Steelseries mouse and Piper is not detecting it, there's a known issue with the latest release version (a regression from working the previous version). If you know how to do it, you can build Ratbagd and Piper from source (there are instructions at the respective Git repositories). It should be fixed when the next version is released (though as Michael notes, this isn't very frequently).
Thanks for the video, Michael!
I was just lazy to do it, but now I'm excited to setup my Razer gadgets!! Hoping to get OpenRazer running without any issues
I hope everything works without issues.
Another software is Polychromatic.
@@Derpingtonshere Thanks! Will definitely try it!!
5:01 Thank you soo much
I feel like with exception for openRazer perhaps, all these tools need a better name and be more present in Linux user's mind.
Including CoolerControl which is a graphical and easy to use UI for fan control built with qt, unless I am lucky to ask someone who knows about these, all these tools all feel so hidden away it'd make desktop Linux a much more enjoyable and on par experience to use.
I think the issue is not necessarily the name as people can cope with different name (e.g. Origin as a game launcher).
The main problem is the lack of a proper icon that resembles a mouse configuration software and the lack of a proper description which can get filtered for your mouse brand
1600dpi Trackball + Mouse Inversion + Mouse Acceleration gaming superiority.
As a Gamer I feel violated ...
As a non gamer I have no idea what u talkin about
Flatpaks needing udev rules might resolve after the usb portal is completed
Can't talk about background daemons yet
I use OpenRazer for my Basilisk V3 (to turn of the LED) but be careful, turning of leads to issue recognize the mouse on boot, better use 0% brightness, this has the same visible effect, but with no other issues.
Hah, that sounds odd
@@MichaelNROH yes it is, but i got two of those (one for home, home of my office) and both mice behave the same.
The thumbnail in this one is really nice
Man I hope we get elgato software to work on linux at some point, that'd be sick
Will never happen. Elgato has no interest in Linux.
It's nice to see that the RGB peripherals are getting more support as the lighting has now been around so long that I'd expect that everyone would want more or less a single stop solution for managing most of the devices.
It would be nice if mice would go the high end custom keyboard route and besides configuration software would have a full open source firmware like the QMK is for keyboards.
That would be preferrable yes, but its probably not gonna happen. It's a real shame since there is nothing software related that would give you a real advantage.
Special shoutout to companies that support Linux natively. My new Dygma Defy keyboard (while super expensive) has both native Linux support and the entire software stack is open source \o/
Love watching you as I wanna learn alot more about linux (like more commands and other more intermediate things) but I have 1 question, I have a redragon mouse but piper does not support redragon. Do you know any software for linux that does?
I'm using CKB-Next, I didn't know about OpenRGB. I'll use it because CKB-Next doesn't see my mouse (LG G403 Hero).
On good side, at least community open source less prone to spyware or unwanted bloat from manufacturer app in windows 😮
Thank you for this video ❤
thank u for the videos!! :)
I'm just getting into actually using Linux after lots of research and it will probably be a while before I try running games. I am really hoping that I will find a way to use my lovely Elecom ergonomic trackball under Linux. For some reason, the scroll wheel on my Logitech MX510 mouse seems not to work in the Q4OS distro (Debian 12 based) that I am using to get my feet wet. Not enough free time right now to worry about that much though.
I appreciate your compact approach to videos Michael, but extracting all the information is sort of like unzipping an archive file used to be. It takes a little work. 😀
YEAH 🐧
Hey Michael great video! How did you manage to disable resolutions in piper?
My profiles are still coming from G Hub I think, though dragging it to zero should disable them.
Btw, Piper also works with Logitec Headsets. At least the Logitec G635 gaming headset works.
Oh hello 😳
Michael I love your videos, and I believe that if Linux wants to truly compete with Windows it will have to find a way to do all of these things easily, I went back to Windows 10 after not being able to run WarZone or more so the Ricochet the anti cheat software.
Those are problems that can't get fixed by the Linux community.
The tools are in place, all it takes is companies picking up the pace and work on it.
What Linux is having is the classic chicken-egg problem. Compatibility issues lead to less people switching over, which again results in poor compatibility because no one puts the effort in.
It is growing, but needs to find a niche it can do so faster. Valve found one and its one of the best ways
'Ctlcore' great tool for power & fan control.
they need to add creative ae-5 series sound cards.
I actually don't use any of these... my mouse is Corsair and use ckb-next and my keyboard is a bit more obscure, a Roccat Vulcan 120, which I use a software called Eruption to control. Only drawback to the Roccat is you need to use Windows to update the firmware first, THEN you can do everything on Linux after that.
Thanks for the vid however I have issues configuring my RAMs RGB since they're not on OpenRGB. Any ideas how to handle this? I just want to switch this off or put into one solid color
Hey Michael, quick question not directly related to the video: have you ever done a rundown of your Linux setup? Like hardware, distro(I see it's Fedora), most used software, GOME Extensions you use and so on?
I'm asking because I know you made a video about Fedora, one about GNOME Extensions and so on but I was wondering if you ever did a full setup tour.
I did one of my main daily driver that is currently on ice because of a few videos.
I usually use Debian 12 with KDE Plasma, which I made a whole video about
@@MichaelNROH oh I saw this video and thought it was Fedora with the classic GNOME DE! I'll search your Debian video :)
I'm 100% certain, that even a DoS system is easier to use and configure than GHUB on Windows.
No input-remapper? It worked perfectly with my G-series Logitech mice and Redragon MMO-style mouse. Has RPM, deb, and AUR so at worst you might need to layer it on an immutable distro, but otherwise, works like a charm.
The room for improvement is an .run file :D
I haven't had the best experience with OpenRGB and NZXT. Their Hue fan controllers sometimes work, and if they do it's when I run it as admin. One of them still doesn't work with admin rights, and they are the same controller. Also, people have apparently had luck changing the AIOs display with cooler control, but I haven't had the same luck 😢
You might have to install a kernel patch
What about Kensington mice?
In my case, Piper had the default file for my G502X. I tried replacing it with one from GitHub, but it still doesn't work. Solaar works, but it seems that I can’t remap additional mouse buttons. My keychron k8 with openRGB on the other hand is shown as Logitech keyboard, and works partially.
Is it a wireless mouse? Sometimes it only works on a wired connection or you need to restart ratbagd.
@@MichaelNROH my Mouse is wireless, but I connected it to usb in my PC and it doesn’t work either. I’ll do some updates and maybe it would work.
FWIW i have a G502 X Lightspeed as well and have spent HOURS trying to get Piper+Ratbag to work. I've tried Flatpak, deb, compiling from source, creating config files, with+without a wired connection... never with any success
i just want the sniper button to map to another key 😭
funny enough i _can_ make that happen through Input Remapper, though the mouse 5 / "forward" button stops working 🙄
sadly my roccat burst pro isnt supported by Piper ....
but hey at least openRGB now works for me
I have a Logitech G502 Hero and a Corsair K70, do you think openRGB or any other could work for my keyboard?
Should be according to their website
Does Solaar allow button configuration or key remapping? I want to switch to Linux but finding alternatives for everything I use is proving to be problematic. I have a G502 and G510 and a ton of macros
Solaar is more of a pairing, rather than an actual configuration tool.
I guess it depends on how far you go.
Key remapping, shortcuts, etc. can all be controlled via Desktop Environments. For more advanced stuff I personally only know of Autokey but it isn't compatible with the new display standard Wayland.
Seems like a lot of effort is going on at the moment though. Some people use other tools, but I don't know them personally
Would any of these allow to remap keyboard buttons to onboard memory, if the device allows so?
Technically both OpenRazer and Piper would support this
What about peripherals from HP, Dell etc. Any way for those?
If you are talking office peripherals, then one, you can't configure them anyway and two, they are just plug and play since they are also being used by businesses.
Hope that answers it
Hello, i really like your videos!
Do you have any idea how i can force vsync on Fedora Workstation, i’ve been trying but i can’t figure it out thanks in advance
Why would you want that? Are you experiencing tearing on your Desktop?
The Wayland protocol prevents tearing, while a syncronized rate is the default for non-fullscreen applications. The only thing where tearing realistically could occur would be video, but that's often related to hardware acceleration on Intel and NVIDIA.
There are guides online how to install the correct packages
@@MichaelNROH well thats just the way freesync/g-sync should be configured that’s why i wanted to turn it on
But what about ASUS' Armory Crate software or Lenovo's Vantage software or maybe HP's OMEN Gaming Hub software?
i use openRGB and UEFI, it's often enough unless you have water cooler
@@ivobrick7401 what about the performance mode in laptops?
@@skelebro9999 again, in UEFI, or IF you mean your GPUs, most distros has build in switcher (this gets complicated if you have nV card)
@@ivobrick7401 what about undervolting?
intel-unervolt, undervolt, iuvolt, just to name a few.
Proprietary third party apps outside of the chips creator don't contribute much to this
Was not happy with razer and Linux. Bought a Dygma keyboard instead. Their software is available for Linux.
Never heard of them before but they make really interesting keyboards. A good choice for modularity
@@MichaelNROH
Tippfehler. 🤦🏻♂️
According to others who have all the ergonomic keyboards, Dygma are the best. Designed by a professional gamer to combat hand pain in competitive gaming or programming.
Is there a software that configures mouse sensitivity to match the one from Windows? I'd like to set the speed to 6/11
It's in the system settings though the default is like on Windows
@@MichaelNROH I guess, on KDE? I was thinking of a DE-independent method, as I myself use GNOME. Just want a match on any DE/OS there is, and after a quick search it seems like there is none.
it doesn't support roccat kone pro air :(
Logi G502 Hero: I have the very annoying issue that when I press the scroll wheel button it also registers as a button4 (thumb button) click at the same time. Very annyoing in games. I cannot find a way to solve that.
Doesn't remapping it help?
That almost sounds like broken firmware or even the mouse itself
@@MichaelNROH I tried 3 G502 Hero mice (I got a couple of those). I tried remapping with Piper. I tried the "Input Remapper" tool. It's just bugging. Also it's not always thumb Button4. Also: I got the same issue on 2 computers running Mint 21.3. Sometimes it also triggers Button3. This goes me animally on the cookie ;)
Can you do a video on Vrr/gsync on gnome and how to use it?
When its officially supported yes.
Up until then its hit or miss, especially when updating
I could never get piper to work with my G602 mouse, any advice on that?
Have you imported the config file?
It looks like its only the mouse that's supported, so you need to connect it directly without the cable.
yeah, i should say my mouse does work. but im not able to change any of the settings through piper. Applying any changes just says something went wrong. device has been reset to a previous state.@@MichaelNROH
Can you make a video on gaming on Linux with non steam games or the things that even not work with lutris, bottles? Thanks
Which games are we talking about here?
@@MichaelNROH I mean GTA San Andreas, the CD version.
@@ArefinKarim Ok that's a tricker one. I guess the easiest method is just installing wine on your system and running it with that.
@@MichaelNROH it does not work, it has some dependency problems, it opens and crashes, but works fine on windows.
Lack of gaming peripheral support is one reason why I'm staying on Windows.
The options are pretty much "what Logitech or Razer product do you want?"
No thanks. I want one OS that can work with any device or play any game. That'll never be Linux.
that is fair. but plenty of people have their own reasons why they do prefer to use Linux, or avoid Windows, and for us it's nice to have these resources
I guess this would solve my Ukrainian RGB Gaming mouse...
I have a shity mouse
why no one give one for free like logitech g102
I hope u'll help me
btw i have 0$
