    This is the best intermediate/advanced level tutorial you've ever made. So much detail, so many techniques, problem solving, and actual reasoning behind the packed into such a short video! This could easily be a 10 hour paid course but you've made it available for free in just 25 minutes. Absolutely fantastic! I'll probably make something based on this video soon

    Disabling the clamping with "c" after you press "g" twice to slide the vertices on the edge beyond the point of the vertex, is legit something I was looking for for years and gave up on finding it long time ago. Thanks!

      You can also press Alt while edge sliding it's more handy.

      Works well while sliding outwards and horrible while sliding inwards because each side behaves according to nearby vertices. Their pace are different if their shape are different.

      I used to create a new transform orientation for each edge to do that, turns out it could be done with one keystroke. That's massive.

    For anyone stuck at 02:22. Once you've made the house with the roof, duplicate it and move the roof away from the house before separating it. So, you still have the house with the original roof as an object and the new roof as a separate object. Then reposition it over the original house, slightly higher on the Z axis. This will stop the problem with the boolean not cutting off the clapboard. Hope this helps.

      @@zenmonk5403 Often it is just the lack of money. The earlier you run out of money, the less time you have to fix and improve the gameplay. Thus if we want have good games, we as players have to pay for them.

      That's a pretty good timing actually. The firs few minutes should be easy, and then getting more challenging. This isn't for absolute beginner, but it's a nice way to get into independent thinking as an intermediate. He has other tutorials that are great to start with, and will get you on your way to look for solutions while learning the tools. I also like Mike King's tutorials for that. He doesn't have the same level of expertise, but he explains things nicely. Sometimes I like less advanced guys, because they can still relate to the early learning curve.

      same, feeling bad because there are a lot of things that arent working even though i quadruple check that I am doing every step just like he is, even if it wasnt said out loud. Not sure if the blender versions difference is causing this much a disruption or what

      @@ryanpatton1795 so many things could go sideways and I am here for that exact reason too don't worry, maybe there's just one detail we missed, for example for the modeling I'm almost done with the walls and boolean settings but for some reason the part right under the roof remains empty. I'll keep going anyway since I'm learning, maybe I'll figure it out later and it'll be a nice way to monitor progress

      @@blenderguru It's always worth spending extra time figure something like that out... when you have the time. :) Guess it's often not that feasable in a production setting, but you still learn a lot just from the process. I'm a fan and victim of this, often spending way too much time on something because I trying to figure out optimal or better way to do it, your mind going "Is this really the right way to do it, maybe it's not really good and there is a better and more flexible way to do it". The conflict haha.

    This is so informative for any photorealistic scene. The materials are layers and have imperfections of their very own. Before, I didn't even think about making materials. I was just like "Okay, the house is wooden....good enough" no. It's wood that sits in the sun all day, is effected by weather, and endless possibilities.

      @@dingustm617 While I see what you're saying, it's a little harsh. He's a small business guy trying to make a buck. He uses these tutorials as 'soft advertising' for his website. That doesn't bother me a bit. Learning a new technique(s) for free? That's pretty horrible, lol. He's entertaining and informative and it doesn't cost a dime. Have you heard of the photoshop guy, Benny Productions on CZcams? That guy gets people to send in their art and drawings. All he does is add some shading and colorwork and then sells that art for a profit on Displate. Now, that is heinous. And yet people keep sending in their art in hopes that they'll be featured. The Blender Guru isn't anywhere near that. Not to mention, I learned quite a bit making my donut.

    I absolutely love seeing the logic that goes into this, 3D modelling is so much less frightening to me when I see it more like programming and using all these modifiers to build and add layers of complexity which can be tweaked later

    1:04 Remember to duplicate roof, before separating it to a new object. Otherwise you'l have problems with the boolean operation at 2:22. Had some frustrations with this issue and almost gave up. Hope it can help someone else along with this otherwise excellent tutorial :-)

      Make sure to apply scale first and you might have to move the roof up (in Z). Andrew did some slight editing before moving on to the next step that he didn't mention.....unless he did some magic....Andrew? Andrew? did ya, buddy? LOL

    Just started using Blender, currently working on my "Doughnut" project. Viewing this video is quite the change from the project video yet it demonstrates the simplicity of the program. All the actions made sense - I had no clue such texture "plugins"were available! I hope to view many more videos but with a 75Mb cap of downloads for the two of us I simply need to be selective!       I personally watch a ton of different people because everyone explains it just a little bit differently, and for myself hearing the same concepts repeated in different structures and word choice helps me understand the more complex portions.

    In video games, a scale reference player is usually going to be 1.8m. Width and depth are usually going to be 0.6m. If you don't have a reference, using a primitive cube with the right dimensions will be enough to start modelling.
    You should also consider jump height (its apex) and crouch height POV. As always, rely on your particular camera in your project as the source of truth for look and feel.

    I love these types of tutorials, it's not exactly follow along tutorials and more like watch and learn type, and also the pacing of the video is amazing, I watched the whole thing without realizing it was over 20mins, the techniques are not for beginners but its gold for intermediate users. I mean we take for granted that this is free on CZcams because this could be on subscription websites. love it!

    By far the hardest tutorial i've ever came across only because he skips critical spots. People who do tutorials gotta consider that we don't know all of the short cuts you're using. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY TUTORIALS SHOULD'NT HAVE CUTS!

      This isn't a step-by-step. If you want one of those check out his other tutorials or another channel. This is a more advanced tutorial where he tries to lay out some basics but ultimately wants you as an artist to f around and find out for yourself instead of copying one for one.     Wow! I knew about the rgb masking technique but the small things such as the C key to unclamp the vertex sliding was new to me! This is why I never skip these tutorials, no matter the skill level, one can always learn something!

    I love how he wholeheartedly shares his extensive in-depth knowledge of concepts while including the logic behind it. Its obvious that he understands art to a great level when it comes to light, color and especially composition as is apparent in the video structure. Unlike many, i don't really have a problem with him marketing Polygon for the simple reason that it is actually an extremely useful addition. It makes the workflow fast and optimized. As long as it is good, it only shows how amazing polygon is the more you mention it. So keep going. He's also constantly improving his videos when it comes to content quality and also experimenting with new video formats. People mention I like this blender youtuber better or some default cube better, Andrew price is the OG Blender Guru!

    Man, this advanced modeling knowledge you show in this video is just like very abstract mathematical theorems told to math newbies. To be honest, as a newbie, I was shocked. While feeling hopeless on the one hand, I also tried not to get discouraged by seeing the true power of Blender. Adding you to my watch list was the right decision. Thank you for sharing.

    I love this style of tutorial for the intermediate user! It's perfect because we don't have to watch through all the nitty grity hours of work but we also have the treat of getting all the awesome tricks! Wonderful!

    Hey Andrew ... i actually wanted to thank you! Before the pandemic i started to follow your tutorials and when it started i worked literaly night and day to learn and get better.
    I worked as a video- and lighting designer in the entertainment industry before and due to your tutorials i got a job in visualisation for products and projects - using UnrealEngine and building my assets and environments with the skillset you gave me! As of today i am an employe of the new company since 8 months and i am quite happy - coming from the entertainment industry i can tell you, that a lot of people got real problems due to covid and all the restrictions ... your tutorials provided a way around ... and it all started with a donut 😁

    Dude I love this! It’s so intuitive and while I didn’t understand some of it now, it makes me feel so good when I did understand certain aspects of the video because it gave me motivation to watch more and learn about nodes and RGB settings. I’m an illustrator so I’m always working in 2D but videos like these give me confidence in expanding my profession. Really great video dude, I’m definitely sticking around for more!

Look, you get the main tool for free, you get a brilliant walkthrough / tutorial FOR FREE because Andrew spent his SPARE TIME creating it, and let's not forget he'd have practised a few times before getting it right, then recording it, then editing it, then uploading it. FOR FREE. If I was as good as Blender Guru I'd charge through Patreon for my time, so I'm eternally grateful he shares his knowledge and time for free.

      @@dingustm617 Default Cube and Blender Guru are so polar opposite that you shouldn't even be on this thread giving DC a shout. And he'd probably be embarrassed by you doing so. This is a community where people share their knowledge and expertise, not bitch and howl at others' who are more successful. I'd say DC's tutorial's are more akin to someone like erindale XYZ. BG is more about creating a 'scene' from start-to-finish in the most direct way using accessible terminology. And there's tutorials where he even suggests using other resource sites, not just Poliigon. DC's stuff is more like abstract techniques and such. BG. is more for everyday artists looking at the entire workflow.
      If you're whining about someone not uploading enough then you really are emblematic of the problem content creators face - incessant demand for free material.
      Why don't you create amazing tutorials and share them so we can all see how great you are?

These guys just enjoy Andrew's videos and I think they are not going to change their minds just because a single person on the internet brays out their position and thinks their point of view is the only right one.

      @@dingustm617 What we have here is that Andrew's tutorials are no longer for you. Your experience has probably surpassed what he can teach you. That's fine, simply move on - you don't need to comment. They are for me though and if anything I get a lot more from the slower and deliberate stepwise tutorials than I do even from this one.
      I've spent two hours replicating the first few minutes of this tutorial simply because the speed of Andrew's tutorials nowadays is way too fast and a minor mistake early on can have serious implications later on (e.g. 1: by me not duplicating the roof the later boolean step didn't work at all, e.g. 2: by Andrew rushing past the initial siding creation, I missed the point where he's selected the whole siding before pressing Alt+S so all my sidings, bar the one I initially angled, were going in weird directions). I would not nearly had as many issues if Andrew did his longer form tutorials.
      If you find Default Cubes tutorials better, great then his style works for you. I've tried following his tutorials and although inspiring, my level of knowledge of Blender isn't there yet and I can't keep up. One day I hope to move on from Andrew's tutorials and move onto the next level, but he'll always have my respect because he helped me get the basic concepts.
      As for being a shill, who isn't? If they're not a shill for another company, they're begging for their own Patreon, subscribers on CZcams or shilling their own products. As long as we're all getting the content for free who cares? Support or don't support, it's your choice.
      Your comments throughout this thread haven't been helpful, just the lowest form of trolling. If you don't find these tutorials useful, find someone else's who are useful to you and allow others to enjoy a different style of learning. Other than being busy, I should imagine Andrew doesn't do as many tutorials because of comments from people like you. So, because you don't get as much out of them we all have to suffer.

    If anyone is like me and wondering how he made those points in his node links:
    -Shift + right mouse drag across a link to add a reroute node.
    -select the reroute node and hit G to move it to a better location so the links don't overlap or go behind other nodes, etc. making your node network a confusing overlapping mess.
    They're called reroute nodes because you can also use them to send links out to multiple nodes from the same node. They support one input but multiple outputs.

    The color burn thing is very smart! I've been using vertex painting for a while but it usually has that issue of the smooth transition. I'll be using that in the future for sure!

    I’m here to help those stuck at 1:04 , So (Choose the faces > Mesh > Seperate > Click the seperated roof > Mesh > Duplicate) Also when adding solidify, make sure to put offset to 1.0000 and turn on ”Even Thickness”

      Why do you separate the original roof attached to the house? is it to delete it so you don't have the hidden faces? Don't you need the roof to be attached so the Boolean works properly?
      you can also set the thickness in the negative direction instead of having to change the offset.
