Being a teenager in the 1970s it is hard to underestimate the impact of "peaches" - we were surrounded by disco and prog rock, donny osmond, the Partridge family, and then we get this astonishingly confronting music - the Stranglers, Sex Pistols, Clash and the Jam, just blew the lid off the culture we were inhabiting. This was authentic, visceral, real. This was Punk and it blew our tiny minds.
When we're on holiday I always say to the wife, "spread it over my peeling skin" - quite clearly I mean some suntan lotion on my back - but she thinks I'm being rude. Women eh? Classic tune.
And many didn't come out alive. It was an interessting time, but it was not milk and honey. It often was dangerous, especially for women. You had to be tough to not end up in the gutter.
Wish I knew how to enjoy myself back then. But I found the 70s depressing, confusing, enraging, and not much fun at all. Music was my escape or solace from pain. Not enhancement to fun. And like most miserable youths of the time, I just wanted to know how all those fun loving assholes managed to turn off their brains long enough in order to not notice how awful everything was. The cold war, Watergate, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Vietnam, the draft, draft dodgers, protests, riots, shootings, inflation, the environment, drugs, terrorism, teen pregnancy, the Berlin wall, The Late Great Planet Earth madness, TV preachers and the moral majority, the energy crisis, the threat of nuclear destruction, sexual promiscuity, disease, exploding divorce rates, and disco. Yeah, it was a gas, gas, gas, man. But at least there was corporate rock and punk to offer some relief. Just a little for me, at any rate. Strangely enough though, these days, I am the happy one, while everyone else are the miserable ones.
@@fritzidler9871interesting and thanks for your insight. otherwise you only hear the positive things about the 70s. but that always seems like too much nostalgia to me. Good that youre life went postive.

Well, i remember it well. Living in western Germany as a heroin addict, we played it on our way back from.the netherlands, with some grams in hiding. The feeling when we finally passed the border was a mixture of christmas and a lottery win on the same day. It was a kind of victory.
This song drags me viscerally back to me at 17 , 1977 Brighton Beach. The smell of the suntan lotion and the figure of eight bouncing bra-less tea-shirts! Wonderful torture. It's so hard to be a boy.

Ahh the 1970's, what a time to be alive. Many mock, many more lived through it and loved it.
I would prefere live my youth in 70's than now
