    What might be very interesting is if you could request a family to share a meal with you to document. That will probably be as authentic as can be

    Devour Tours, Any tips for people who don't eat pork? It seems that pork is extremely popular, which significantly limits eating options. Of course, one still has the option of sticking only to seafood and vegetarian dishes. How about other meats like beef,veal,lamb? Are they used in Catalan and Spanish cuisine?

      Hi Madi, thanks for the comment! What can we say-Spain is a pork-loving country! That being said, they know their way around veggies and seafood like you mentioned, too. And there are certainly dishes with beef, veal and lamb to order all around the country-look for lechazo (slow-roasted suckling lamb), cordero (lamb) and dishes featuring ternera (beef) on the menu. If the menu simply specifies "carne," which means meat, definitely ask if it's pork or beef. Cheers!

    Please if you come visit (you are more than welcomed, we love tourists) please please please go to a Hostel or a Hotel but NOT Airbnb. This is killing our lives. Is taking us out of our city and making us live anywhere else, so this airbnb owners can make money with you coming to visit the city and we, locals, can't live anymore in our city because of the huge speculation that is causing rent prices go super high and we do not have superb amount of money as salaries so that is a big real problem because the city has no space to grow up (the sea in one side, the hills in the other, and two other cities in the sides) but everyone wants to live in our city. The big problem are Airbnb's and foreigners coming to live with massive renting budgets so that has produced that prices of rentals came super high to the level that if you earn 1200€ a month you probably can't live in the city nor rent an appartment in 20kms out of it.
    So yeah, if you come visit please use only legal places like Hotels and Hostels, and if you come to live here please remember you might be asked to pay overpriced, get to know the real prices and help us explote that bubble. Because once here you are one of us, and you'll suffer that problem also.
    And lastly: Thanks for coming visit! We love tourism

      Sad to realize the negative impact of airbnb. Never saw it that way. Same situation in all cities I guess. I am going to Barcelona in July. Staying in airbnb but in the outskirts of Barcelona. The only way we could stay 2 weeks. Trying to find local things to do and see, not easy because everyone else is trying to do the same, so ends up touristy. Can't wait to visit your beautiful city, from Québec, Canada.😊

      @@sunshiner9204 sweet Nancy! Yes i also changed my way of travelling to just look first for regular accomodations everywhere I go and leave airbnb to other places.
      The real big issue of our city is that it can't grow because it is surrounded by the sea on one site, the hills on another one and two sister cities on the other sides so the space (as in many other cities) is limited.
      Well 2 weeks is a long period of time and July would be crowded for sure but you can beach one day at sitges (easy to reach by train and it takes like 30min i guess), you can go to the Costa Brava (there are many locations there) and find a small spot (also reachable by train or bus), if you wanna get to know the pyrinees you can visit places like Vall de Nuria or la Vall de Boí, Vall d'Arán.... You can also go to the volcanic area of la garrotxa and also visit la fageda d'en jordà..... If you like brave waters and adventure sports there are many spots were try downhill rivers on a boat, by yourself or even fly, skydiving..... You can also visit caldes de malavella which is known for their thermal waters and spend a night in an hotel+spa included, you can go to Vic and visit their market... And i believe in July there should be some Festivities in some towns close so you should check that and spend a day and/or night out there partying as a local maybe. Lets not forget Delta de l'Ebre if you like to see fauna and animals and eat great rice dishes (the rice grows up there).
      There is plenty of things to do and visit, is just a matter of preferences and time :)

      @@danigonzalez4299 Wow! thank you for all the great tips. I will make sure to write these down. After visiting the touristy places it's nice to see , visit and appreciate your culture for what it really is. We will be staying in Sant Cugat which seems like a nice place as well. Thank you for sharing your ideas Dani, it is appreciated. If you do become a local tour guide let us know😉

      @@sunshiner9204 your welcome! Enjoy your stay! Yes Sant Cugat is a nice village with healthy founds! There is a classic furniture market on the weekends I believe. Once in Sant Cugat to get to Barcelona your best friend is FGC trains. Cheap, punctual and confortable. Yet you are half way to Montserrat with also FGC (not sure if there is a station there or you have to move somewhere else) i believe.

    I've never seen a local eat churros. In fact I rarely see them on sale apart from the tourist areas.

      @DevourTours  Před 6 lety +2

      Thanks for the comment, Rand! While it's true they're not as popular for breakfast there on a daily basis as in other Spanish cities, you will see locals grab some on the way home from a night out, or families enjoying them on public holidays or lazy Sundays. Cheers!

      I am from a neighbourhood a little far away from the center and we have 6 churrerías (churros place) in our small neighbourhood. And that's only if you don't include the bars that offers them too. Maybe in the center with the shops there's a few churrerías and they normally are full of tourists. I think people from Barcelona normally go to churrerías that are not in the center (Plaza Cataluña, Ramblas...). Also it use to be more expensive.
      I love churros, I have them in the morning and the evening with friends and family. In summer too! Also is very typical to eat them when you go out of clubs/party for breakfast. They are delicious!
