    MORE ABOUT THIS VIDEO 😃

It had been a LONG time since Yoly and I had been in Cordoba. And it’s a city that I have always loved. It’s full of mystery, history and of course incredible food! So in this video Yoly and I decided to do a tapas crawl across 5 of the top tapas bars in Cordoba, plus a few extra stops for good measure.
    So where did we go?
    1. Bodega Guzmán. A fantastic old bodega where they fill the glasses of Montilla Moriles to the brim (seriously) and the walls are lined with bullfighting memorabilia. This is a tertulia taurina, which means it’s a place where bullfighting aficionados get together to talk shop. And there were a few old boys there having their aperitif while we were there.
    2. Taberna Salinas. A classic in Cordoba, and the best place for traditional dishes in my opinion. It’s been open about 100 years, and you can sit in the bar or the restaurant. We hit the bar, and ordered three local classics - rabo de toro (bull tail stew), salmorejo (cold tomato soup - thicker than gazpacho) and berenjenas fritas (floured and fried eggplant slices). All were fantastic.
    3. Cuatromanos. Now a modern stop. Run by the couple of brothers, these guys are doing modern interpretations of classic dishes. We actually ate there for dinner that night as well. It was excellent. This is more of a restaurant than a tapas bar - so heads up there.
We next hit the famous mosque (mezquita) and also a place for Spain’s largest tortilla, Bar Santos. Does big mean delicious?
    4. Taberna Góngora. Another classic joint in Cordoba. These guys are famous for their flamenquín, which is a local dish which is effectively rolls of pork which is then breaded and fried. It’s intense - but worth it. Especially when you dip it in mayo.
Next, another off-road stop. Snails! Cordoba’s snail seasons runs from about February until June and during the season stalls pop up all around the city. The caracoles come in different sizes and in different sauces - best one is the delicious cuminy and minty brother.
    5. La Sastrería. Last stop was another modern joint, and we hit the bull tail stew again… this time in the form of a taco. We were seriously stuffed by now, but Yoly managed to pack it away.
Make sure you include Cordoba on your Andalusia trip!

I LOVED Cordoba! My husband and I were there for 24 hours on 19 May, and were pleasantly surprised about how historic and beautiful the city is. Ate through a few tapas places, but the one worth mentioning, I think is Casa Pepe de La Judería. We had Mazamorra con dulce de pera y piñones, salmorejo, and bacalao a baja temperatura, guiso de sus callos y garbanzos. Crazy good all of it! Would love to go back and venture more. The patios, la Mezquita, the bar scene in the Juderia, and more, make it all the more worth seeing it, and eating throughout the city.

When I visited Cordoba with my boyfriend and his family, we ate at a small place outside the tourist area. Salmorejo blew me away. So creamy and hearty, even in the Cordoba heat in May. It reached almost 47 degrees in the afternoons. (116+ fahenheit) when we were there.
Besides Salmorejo we were served a dessert called Naranjas Ancianas. Ancient oranges. Gorgeous, sweet, spicy orange slices, peeled and drizzled with light olive oil and dashes of cinnamon. I still serve it to this day.

Bit of a history about the Mosque at Cordoba as told to me by my Spanish friends:
When Cordoba finally fell, under Isabel and Fernando, the order was to level the mosques. Spanish engineers pled with the Catholic court to allow them to keep it for 10 years so they could study how it stood up. The building is enormous, the size of 2 football fields. The Spanish court allowed this because the engineers told them that they could build larger Catedrales.
After 10 years, the engineers said they still were still s the veracity of the building as a feat of engineering and architecture. The Court allowed them 10 years more with the codicil that they be able to make it into a cathedral.
To test the veracity of the building the engineers scooped out the center of the building, expecting it to fall down. It didn't. And that is why you walk through the dark, cool praying places of the moors, through the areas that were used as Jewish Temple, and you come upon this Cathedral in the middle, flooded with light.

Hi James. I stayed right opposite the famous cathederal mosque years ago. I was a cheap skate and checked it out in the morning when it was gratis entry. Amazing mix of separate cultures. Not surprised a food outlet next to the city's biggest tourist attraction wasn't top notch cuisine. However the tapas food looked amazing! One of the dishes reminded me of the old favorite counter meal at pubs, steak and chips. I'm sure the taste of your meal was a little more exotic. lol Love your tapas crawls. Feel sorry for both of your distended stomachs but envious of your wine soaked livers. Just got back from Vietnam where there's plenty of tasty food but I do miss Spain.

Gazpacho and Salmorejo are not the same! You drink gazpacho, and you eat salmorejo. They are not comparable!
    Nice video! Go on!

Great video, my god you two have an adventurous pallet. I’m not as adventurous, but you inspire me to try new dishes in Spain. Keep up the good work 👍
