$40 Black & Decker vs. $250 Breville (Which Juicer Should You Buy?)

  • The Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus, which MSRPs at $250, is the most searched juicer on the market right now. We wanted to see how a "budget" juicer stacks up to this more premium juicer, so we found the top-shopped affordable juicer at Walmart, the Black & Decker Fruit and Vegetable Juice Extractor, and pitted them head-to-head. Pete doesn't have much experience with juicing, so he recruited resident Slickdeals juicing expert Carly to help him test these out. We unboxed both juicers, then looked at design, features, performance and price to determine WhichWon?
    To keep in mind, both of these juicers are centrifugal. Tell us in the comments if you want to see us compare a centrifugal to a masticating juicer next!

    Forgot to cover the most important part of a juicer: CLEANUP!! :)

    • @slickdeals
      @slickdeals  Před 3 lety +7

      You're right! Despite us talking about this ad nauseam during the shoot, we left it out of the video!
      The filters are going to be the most challenging part of the juicer to clean, and this is where you really want a scrub brush like the one that comes with the Breville. Most of the parts except the base that houses the motor on the juicers are machine washable, but even then, you want to soak that filter, get it soapy and scrub like nobody's business!
      That shredder filter part is comparable on both of these juicers, so there is no advantage between the two except that Breville provides a brush. Though you can pick up a scrub brush for dishes for cheap at most home goods stores.
      Hope this helps!

    Really thoughtful of you to point out that Cuisinart has so many different juicers. I think a lot of people would otherwise there are just 1-2, order the wrong one and then be really disappointed.
    As far as the brush goes, you can always go buy a toothbrush or other soft brush at a craft/hardware/automotive store. For a very tight spot, pick up a children's toothbrush.

    Thank you for the video! It helps a lot. Please don't mind the negative comments. What you did is comparing the performance of the two juicers. I also prefer the B&D. It's very decent for domestic use. Few milliliters of extract is not a huge difference while the B&D juicer is 400w and the other is 1000w.

      It's a weird comparison, but is not really meant to be "fair" they're displaying the capabilities of two different price tiers to help the viewer decide whether is worth spending $250 on one of these, or if they're fine with a relatively simpler one.

    I prefer not drinking at the entire skin of a orange I don't think it tastes good

    Before spending $250 on the Breville, you'd be better off getting the Tribest Shine Slow Juicer for $120 - $150. Slow juicers are where it's at.

  • @litewavve

    This review lacks precision in the most important part: efficiency. The weight of raw materials and juice output should be measured to make a fair comparison. I have been using Hamilton Beach Big Mouth juicer for many years. It is slightly more expensive than B&D (in the $60 range) but its performance is a lot closer to Breville than B&D with a larger mouth and 800W motor. In my measurement in its performance to juice apples (my primary application), it can produce about 65% juice from apples by weight. If I put the pulp into a cheesecloth bag and squeeze out the juice from the pulp, I can get 87% liquid from apples.

      Pete here. I've actually always kind of liked cucumbers... My first memory of them was eating them on the salad I'd get when my family and I would go to eat at Red Lobster. I know some people loathe them, probably like I've never been a fan of broccoli. But I feel like most people can agree that neither of those are as bad as asparagus! lol.

      Not everyone does this. Sometimes folks like to choose a more affordable option when purchasing a new kind of product. That way they get to see whether or not they'll actually get a good amount of use out of it before investing in a more expensive version.
