Why Every Mountain Biker Should Own One of These

- After a recent round of storms in Northern California I headed out for a ride on the Foresthill Loop in Auburn, California only to discover several downed trees on the trail. After a few miles I decided to turn around, head back to the truck and grab my 10 inch folding saw.
It got me thinking. Maybe not everyone knows that folding saws are easy to transport and super affordable. Perhaps they aren't aware of how quickly they can help clear a tree off the trail? Well. I decided to do a quick video just highlighting some of the reasons why I think every mountain biker should own one of these SUPER handy tools.
If I missed anything or you think of any other tools mountain bikers should carry feel free to let me know in the comments below.
Here is an affiliate link to the Corona Saw I'm using in the video:

Gotta love those action shots 😎🔥
We GOT that Folding Saw B-Roll!
Got mine a while back and I use it all the time, great tool…
Yes! I always have it in the truck. For the occasion where I start running into down trees I just ride back and grab it.
That's actually a REALLY good idea, i have a simlar folding saw, as the weather gets worse, i'll put it in my pack
Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look into adding this to my kit
Great advice, and good on you for doing your part in trail upkeep and maintenance 👍
Honestly I really do enjoy trail building and maintenance. Who woulda have thought. I just wish I had more time for it.
Amen and thanks to all those that carry and use theirs.
Yea man. With the beating Northern California trails have taken over the last year it's the LEAST I could do. Love this damned folding saw.
Great PSA! We were cleaning up some stuff just the other day. We should get a group together to try and clean the huge one at the top of Connector
I'd totally be down! I love getting out there and cleaning up the stuff we ride everyday.
thank you for the PSA Joe! awesome as always!
Definitely! Glad to be of service.
Nice!! I've been meaning to buy one of these & your link made it easy!!
Thanks brother! Yea it's definitely a tool worth having in the car at all times. Find a couple down trees on the ride? Go get the saw and take em' out!
Thank you!
Happy to help!
Excellent tip. I'm going to have to start bringing mine the next few months.
Yea the Foresthill Loop was in bad shape. Glad we could get out and clear it.
Thank you Joe
It's such a great way to contribute to a trail and it doesn't take much time. Gotta love it.
Got the same one👍🏻
I've had that saw for years. Defiantly the best one I've ever owned. Locks open and locks closed.
Informative!
Thanks! Definitely worth having a folding saw. Especially after a big storm.
Good Idea 👍
The saw also makes you look like a badass. So keep that in mind also.
I'll be right behind you collecting that oak for firewood!
If only it was easy to haul out. haha
Absolutely. Down here in SoCal it’s not needed as often. But I definitely bring mine after any storm or high wind day.
Such a great way to contribute. It's definitely one of the tools that just keeps on paying itself off every time I use it.
Best video you’ve made to date
That's HIGH praise comin' from Todd the Saw HIMSELF!
defenitly a grreat idea. works well for those smaller trees or with jsut the branches blicking the trail, but sometimes trees are too big to do this, and you need a chainsaw, I had to crawl under one once, it completely blocked the trail, it was a huge pine tree. but this arrea has been cleaned since. the winds can be so strong here trees snap or fall down with the roots.
I should get one.
Good PSA 💯
Gotta have the right tool for the job!
So good 👍😌
People used to tell me I couldn't cut it. Well. How WRONG they were.
That's a pretty solid tip. We get a lot of traffic out here and the trails get wide fast.
It's amazing how fast a trail can widen. Luckily there's so many people in the community that are stoked to contribute. Can't say that for a lot of sports.
Another great option is a Nordic Pocket saw. It's literally a bi-directional chainsaw blade with strap handles that fits in a pouch. They're kinda pricey for an original, but they come in two different lengths.
Came here from the DD Live stream last night. Have you ever come across parks that don't want you messing with downed trees? I stumbled into a downed tree at Hidden Falls and I wasn't sure if I'd be allowed to cut it up and move it out of the way.
To be honest I'm relatively new to MTB and never even thought they'd be ok with us doing this, figured there was some kind of obscure environmental thing I'd have to be careful of.
Saw hero
Cutting my way to success.
Silky saw is the way to go
Those look good! This one's still an absolute beast but when it gives out I'll give silky a go.
I’ve got one in my pack and I’ve used it more than any other tool I carry.
Yes! Plus in the rare situation a bottle nosed dolphin attacks on the trail you'll be prepared. 🤔
Corona's are good, but I prefer the Silky, sharper teeth and don't seem to dull as quick. (Both are great mind you, I just think the Silky is a bit better) Thanks for the great video.... and clearing the trail in my neck of the woods!
Silky's are tops, I tend to buy the cheapies and keep one in my camelback, one in my trail work bag, one in my truck and probably have one laying around elsewhere. Doing that with Silky's would severely cut into my n+1 bike budget
I've heard great things about the silky's. I'll have to check them out. We did some MAJOR work on the Foresthill Loop on Saturday. We cleared so much stuff. Can't believe how much damage that storm caused to the trail.
Baller 👊👊👊
Slicin' and Dicin' my way to victory.
I got that saw 👍 a whole day’s work in 2:37 🤔🤘
Haha! I’m an editing WIZARD. 😂
U Da Man
Perhaps I just have a supreme hatred for trees? 😂
Yes sir, its that time of year to keep a saw at hand. Also first one on the trail gets the spider webs to the face. lol
Hahaha! Yes. Spider Webs absolutely destroy the over achievers of the mountain bike community. It's a good thing I sleep in. 😂
they make 4" - 6" cordless chain saws for under $60 and they make cutting down trees a breeze.
Great public service announcment. This will change trails as we know it:)
Let the legend of the Calirado Kid live on forever in the downed trees of yore. 😎
But does wearing it like that during transport meet OSHA standards and can I use my @bobo manscape tool instead ?
Oh man. I think you'd have to call it "LANDscaping" at that point. 😂
I made my own folding saw out of a sawzall blade, a piece of wood and a couple screws. Its about half the size of that one you got.
Quit showing off Captain's Cog!! Damnit. 😂
@@CaliradoKid but yours is still bigger than mine and you can use it on those thick ones. We still talking about saws, right?
Also works well on hikers blocking the trail🤣
Get out of the way hikers!!
What are trees? Will that work on cactus?
I have a patented Calirado Kid Cactus Laser for that.
This comes handy when you're robbing a fellow rider with a really sweet bike.
Easiest way to get a new e-bike in my opinion!!
In my country you be arrested for hold that 😮💨 I love and hate my country
No way! Although I'm borderline arrestable with this mustache and holding a handsaw at the same time. 😂
