  • Staining a Fence using Ready Seal to Make it Look Like New! Very Satisfying! Ready Seal Easy! Ready Seal is very easy to use. I finished the fence after it has been bleached and pressure washed and dried out for two weeks. I used Ready Seal Pecan Exterior Stain and Sealer. I used 11 Gallons total but if you are using a brush and roller you will use a lot less. If you have questions feel free to hit me up in the comments!

    Thank you for taking the time to make the video!! You got me pointed in the right direction. For others asking We used Ready Seal Natural cedar on 200 feet of 6' privacy fence. We used about 17 gallons front and back using a Graco sprayer with a 517 tip. I also used a 20 inch extension with a swivel that made getting the top and bottom sides of the boards much easier.

    Great video. I would recommend using a respirator and 20" extension on sprayer. Thank you for sharing.

      Red Legion Gaming sorry I over looked your question. It is a 15 degree yellow tip.

      Sam Manda thank you I am glad you enjoyed the video, I hope I earned a like and subscribe! I use a 15 degree tip. It is yellow in color and can be purchased at Lowe’s or Home Depot.

    What did you do so the metal post would not get stained? Did you just paint over it and then wiped it off as you go?

    did you pressure wash before stain? on older fence (with lots of grey/green mold) is PW good enough to prep fence for stain or do you have to go though the whole soft wash process?

    • @TheImprovementChannel
      @TheImprovementChannel  Před 4 lety

      Yes, I did spray bleach with a sprayer then pressure washed. Then I waited 2 weeks to stain. There is another video where I did the pressure washing.

      @@TheImprovementChannel whats the downside of using a PW only with no bleach to prep the fence for stain? in my experience the wood has a much more natural look without the bleach. i do fence staining and in the past if we had to clean before stain, all we did was PW only, no bleach. my biggest issue with the bleach wash is that i got to wet the fence, hit it with cleaner, hit it with PW. thats three run throughs just for the cleaning when i could just hit it one time with a PW. i could use the extra money but i really dont want to be charging for services that are not essential.
      the only benefit i see of the soft washing would be if it eliminated the need for the PW but were i live the humidity is so high with lots of mold and the soft wash never does the job on its own.

      Dallas area where I am is lower humidity. I just sprayed it with bleach without getting it wet first. That probably did not do anything. I have purchased an attachment on amazon that will allow me to pull out of a bleach bottle to more or less soft wash it so it can be done fast.
      I’m not sure there is enough money in it for me to offer the service. I have considered quoting some commercial concrete work, that might pay enough if I can get some to run the washer for me.
      I do much better with my welder working on iron fences. I have a video on that hear as well. I finished up an iron fence job this week similar to the video that is on here. I dug 5 holes and placed posts. I cut down a gate to make it smaller. A few other small repairs. Paid a kid to paint (I had to touch up after him but he did great) 12.5 hours, paid his $20 per hour, he was worth every penny! I charged $2980, had about $400 in material costs, $250 in labor. I worked 20 hours. That puts me at $115+ per hour for my time which is about right. I shoot for you 100-130 per hour for mobile work.

      Always wash before staining and only wash when you know you will be staining withing 36-48hours after washing. A light bleach mix is on on new wood but if it's gray or has some older stain you need to use a sodium hydroxide stripper on it followed by oxalic to neutralize the wood so it doesn't effect that pH of the stain.

    You should really try wearing a mask, breathing that stuff is not good for your lungs..
