    Have really sussed out what is currently on the market re true free standing 270 awnings and it is slim pickings. Had a close look at these in the flesh and then ordered the 270 Max. They’re expensive. They’re well made. Over a lifetime I seem to have always ended up buying the premium option of whatever was available and time, and time again it has bourne out to be a prudent investment compared to the cheaper options my mates tend to buy. Certainly a higher price is not a guarantee of a superior item, but if you travel a lot, year in year out drop the clams and go top shelf if you can.

    That’s bloody impressive 😳 I bought a $150 one about 5 years ago but can’t be arsed rolling it out, setting poles, finding pegs etc etc, so it literally NEVER gets used. To have something that sets up in less than a minute (and that’s a legit less than a minute) and is more effective, whoa, that’s almost priceless 😁👍👍

    Looks like a fantastic product, but at $2.5k for equivalent coverage to the Darche 270 it's more than double the price. Probably worth it if you're doing some serious long term touring, but not for most just to get rid of a couple of poles.

    I like it, I just don't like soft-shell awnings and tents. In Florida, the rain, dew and humidity alone tends to cause mildew and mold, regardless of the material used. The outer shell bag style of awnings and tents won't last here. I've yet to see a product of this quality and strength in a hard shell cased awning. I would be all over it!

  • @Dave_Gurman
    @Dave_Gurman Před 4 lety +2

    Bush Company manufacture quality gear but I think you can do better if coverage is your goal. When building #toughtear we fitted a Supa Peg 3.5m 270 degree awning (2.5m coverage out from camper) which has served us well. Being an early version though we have to insert the 6 poles as its not free standing (current version has swing down poles). Usually the disadvantage of a free standing 270 is less coverage but we are now very interested in the Howling Moon 2.5m 6 panel swing awn. With our research Howling Moon has the best coverage for free standing 270 awnings currently on the market. The 6 panel has a 180 section on the front as well as the 270 on the rear, they also have a standard 4 panel with just the 270.

What I don’t get is with the prevalence of cell phone cameras and truly crappy video and audio, that the viewer would cut some slack to someone who is trying to make an effort to improve their productions. What was done nicely was a dissemination of information. I personally learned a great deal. Oh and for full disclosure, I have been a pro photographer since 1976. Here is the key, when your method of presentation does not distract too greatly from the message you are trying to convey you were successful in disturbing that knowledge. Also use the equipment you have to it’s fullest. Photographers/ Videographers tend to be gadget and equipment obsessed. Do not upgrade until technology forces you to do so. A lot of new technology can require a long learning curve and you might not get substantially better results because of being frustrated by the camera in you hand. Know your audience. Know your main distribution platform. Is 4K or even 1080p really need for CZcams? Having said that, I love big sensors a relic from my film days but having a large formate workflow drives the cost up even more with computer capability and storage. So keep a clear mind on you goals. Don’t listen to the complainers until 1 out of 3 people complain then you have a real problem. Sorry for the rant.

    How many people will it hold walking on the awning when it is fully extended. I see you standing on it in the add for this video, so obviously one person is fine. Can two people perhaps sit on top of it? 🤣

      I had one last year on my 60 series. I found the forward section annoying because it ment you have to walk all the way around the vehicle twice to set it up plus the 6 poles you have to put up and you definitely need to tie it down as a gust of wind will fold it over your car (ask me how I know). For these reasons I've got an xt awning on the way

    Can anyone recommend a decent freestanding 180 degree awning?
    I need to access the rear/roof of my canopy so a 270 degree awning will get in the way. Plus I won't use the space in the rear so it's a waste of weight/money.

    Hi Matt. Great video. Would the back of the awning cover a prado 150 barn door when it is opened. I have seen allot of these that would cut the cover of the door fully opened. this is dangerous when windy as i always lock the door. thanks in advance.

    • @LebChap
      @LebChap Před 3 lety

      Have a look at the Fire to Fork channel, he has one of these on a Prado and you can see it just isn't big enough to cover the last 1/3 of the door. I really like the idea of no legs but can't find one that completely covers the rear door. The Drifta 270 awning appears to be one of the few to completely cover the rear door and some.
