PLEASE NOTE - we no longer using the silver reflective coating or stainless D-rings shown in this video. An updated video will be posted soon.
The 270 XT MAX Awning sets new benchmarks for a free standing shade awning with its massive 129ft2 / 12m2 of shade coverage, huge wind resistance and shares the same strength and durability as our famous 270 XT Awning.
The 270 XT MAX Awning is 7’6″ (2.3m) in length when packed away, weighs only 74lbs (33.5Kg) and can be easily fixed to most roof racks or heavy duty load bars using our heavy duty ‘L’ brackets (sold separately) or to our Heavy Duty L Brackets (sold separately) or to our Clamshell Roof Top Tents. The combination of forward and rear folding arms means the 270 XT MAX Awning provides an incredible amount of shade (+/-129ft2 / 12m2) around your 4WD for you to set up your camp kitchen, swags or just a shaded seating/chill out area. As you can see from the video the awning is an easy set up by one person in about 60 seconds and the pack down is just as simple. The 270 XT MAX Awning has a heavy duty stainless steel hinge at the rear and also the front section of the frame with arms that wrap around the rear of your vehicle as well as folding forward to be parallel with the side of the vehicle.

The 270 XT MAX Awning is made in South Africa from the finest quality components. The awning bag is 460gsm (16.2oz) poly-cotton rip-stop canvas with YKK Zippers. In contrast to PVC covers, the canvas allows the awning to breath while keeping it dust/dirt free and moisture is able to wick out through the zipper reducing the risk of mold or mildew. The rip-stop material on the bag also reduces the risk of large running tears in the bag as a result of contact with tree branches, and the front and rear sections of the bag have a double layer of canvas providing extra protection. The canvas on the awning itself is a 320gsm (11.3oz) poly-cotton rip-stop canvas in The Bush Company’s traditional olive green colour that is mould and mildew resistant. . There is only one seam in the whole canvas section (not including the edges) and the canvas is pre-treated during manufacture for water resistance, but over time if the stitched areas show signs of water ingress this is easily treated with a canvas aqua proof product to seal the stitch holes. Where the canvas is attached to the ends of the trussed awning arms there is additional triple reinforcement to eliminate chafing, while the front and rear arms slide into a triple stitched canvas sleeve.
The structure of the awning is made from an extruded alloy composite which has been specifically designed to provide the elasticity, strength and durability we require. The main bracket for the hinge is constructed from stainless steel providing huge strength. The main arms on the awning have been gusseted for additional strength, which enables the awning to be fully free standing without any poles in even strong wind conditions. We do not supply poles for the awning as it does not need them, but we do supply guy ropes and pegs. It is recommended that the front and rear arms that are reinforced but not gusseted are pegged down to prevent excessive upward movement in strong winds. The guy ropes attach to the 1 tonne webbing straps that are attached to the canvas at the ends of the arms and also midway along each canvas section. In conjunction with the natural rake of the awning, the guy ropes should be used to prevent pooling of water on the canvas and to guide water runoff in preferred places. We do not recommend leaving the awning up unattended during snowfall due to risk of canvas stretching as a result of excessive weight.
Around the inside edge of the awning is a thick triple stitched velcro strip which can be used to attach the optional awning walls enabling you to fully enclose the area to provide protection from the elements or additional privacy.
Fitting the 270 XT MAX
The 270 XT MAX Awning frame requires a fitment bracket attached to the stainless steel sections no more than 200mm / 7 ⁷/₈inch from each end. The awning is not suitable to be fitted to a roof rack shorter than 1.9m / 74.8” in length or to load bars where the width from front to rear is less than 1.9m / 74.8″.
When using our Heavy Duty L Brackets for mounting the 270 XT MAX awning, we recommend using 2 pairs of the brackets, with two at the rear, one in the middle and one at the front of the awning.
The best awning I've ever seen also happens to be the most expensive awning I've ever seen. But you know what, I think it's worth it.
Only if I knew about this awning before purchasing the dune 270. This is awesome and handy.
Beautiful Awning. Great work Bush Company!
Saving up for one of this. Hopefully the misses will get me one for Chrissy
This looks to be exactly what I want, except it needs zippers for the walls. I've found my current awning gets a lot of tension on the walls in stormy conditions, zips plus velcro are the standard from what I've seen, not just velcro alone.
Unless you're somehow confindent that the velcro walls can take gusty wind, as we use the walls as wind breaks mainly.
I can sew zippers in myself, but at the price point this awning is, I think you could add zippers plus velcro.
Besides, velcro is useless in the rain when wet..... I agree with the zippers.
Look it is a security future, before your awning breaks the sidewalls fall off. Maybe it’s not so bad
Don't care how strong it is, I would still like built-in poles on this. I also prefer zipped side walls, rather than velcro. But it is a magnificent awning.
Hi John, the trussed arms all have holes in the ends to receive a standard telescopic pole. We supply poles with the wall kits. Poles are not required unless alls are fitted. Cheers
I bought a howling moon 270 swing awning and have nothing but problems with it. With hindsight I wish I had bought this one.
Hi Bush Company,
How about doing a install video attaching the awning to the Alpha tent, at $2500 I would like to see how its installed.
I hope it comes with instructions
2.5k unfortunatly out of my reach, great product though!
Been researhing awnings this is 2100 wide where Rld is 2750 and bundutecs largest is 2.9
What roof rack would you recommend to mount this awning on a 200 series??
Needs zippers for walls, Velcro dose not last over years . where’s out to sone . Would buy it if it had zipper walls . Rest is awesome . From Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.
I emailed to ask about this, response: "Thank you for your email enquiry. We have no plans to use zips, the Velcro is strong enough."
Zips can break..sail track would be better
Just an idea. I wonder if it's possible to mount one on driver and one on the passenger side to get an almost 360 degree awning? That would be a fun video to watch.
@Ray Johnson yeah but why design a bulkier and more expensive awning to do that when you can put up a windscreen shade for cheaper and more lightweight.
I wish I saw this before I bought my batwing Awning :(
Hi mate Have you thought of incorporating solar blankets into your awnings. Awesome awning and charging battery at same time
the wire grid would fail on cells that get rolled like this. they won't fail right away but the will fail well before the MTBF rating. And really, if you have a awning, you have a roof rack and or RTT to which you can put fixed "solid" panels which have a higher efficiency and smaller footprint than flexible cells.
A future idea for sure but todays tech wouldn't hold up long term let along as long as this awning will last
I’m currently running a 23 zero falcon and the thing that bugs me is the poles and also the rear arm doesn’t sit parallel with my roof tent. I access the tent from the rear ladder mounted to the canopy and I don’t want to have to climb over the awning arm. Does the rear arm sit completely parallel with the rear of the canopy or is it at a slight angle?
You mention the optional walls, but I can't find them anywhere on your site (not the USA anyway). Do you still make the walls?
Any plans for a 180 degree for dual cab utes that still have a tub?
Could you do a video and review on the walls please
Hi James, coming up in the next couple of weeks.
How much Aussie dollar? Who is the agent in Queensland?
you should zip it to the front to avoid tool bag falling while driving
I am picking up a Super Pacific USA (2018 Tundra CrewCab) in Portland end of December. I see you have a distributor in Grants Pass OR. Will this work well with the Super Pacific USA? And if so which brackets do I need?
Hi Jay,
Please contact our distributor in the US (details below) and they will be able to assist you with your enquiry. I

Can you use this without the roof top tent - ioe Just mount to Roof rack or do you need the Roof Top tent to hold it down?
Awesome.
Love it! Do you offer shipping to North America?
Does the back square off like the supa peg squareback?
So this thing is branded by OCAM, Drifta and you guys and it's exactly the same thing each time.
Do you have side walls available for purchase
Hi, can this be fixed on Kia Sorentro and which roof bars would be required?
Are you Dean? You have lost your accent and are now an Aussie. I just watched your 3-year-old video.
It's very cool. Please tell me the price
👌👌👌👌👌
Where in South Africa can I buy this?
No you haven't been listening to what the customer wants. I bet a good gust of wind and the walls will come away from the velcro at least with zips that wont happen.
Tell the price mate
when will this be available in the USA?
You can have Micah from Overlandunderbudget take a look at this awning. He makes very similar ones and I'm pretty sure he could add the front arms to his design with no problems.
Thanks for the vid but Ummm guys, you can’t review your own product without being biased
What a shame you are still using velcro to attach the walls and not zippers.
I emailed to ask about this, response: "Thank you for your email enquiry. We have no plans to use zips, the Velcro is strong enough."
I'd say from my experience that velcro is stronger than zips and if it does fail it's easier for the owner to replace... if a zip fails it's often impossible to replace cheaply...
Fair enough 🖒
Just add a good snap at either end and the center of each wall. With the velcro its bullet proof.
almost 2k, LOL.
It's 2.5K!
