  • When were Cornelius and his household saved? Was it when they were baptized? When the Holy Spirit fell on them? Or could it be that as Gentiles they were still under the Patriarchal Covenant? To find our answer, let’s talk about it with Don Blackwell and breakdown what really happened in Acts 10.

Very elequent. A worthwhile exercise following this dialogue. This is a very patient man. I'm praying for more patience. Some people cherry pick the Bible doctrine and I sometimes lose my patience. Clearly some people are lying or deluding themselves when they profess reverence for God's word. The arragance of taking your feelings over the word of God is profound and astounding. Acts, Peter, Romans, nearly every book in the Bible clearly states baptism is essential, fundamental, in becoming a Christian.

We can't answer this question unless we first understand what salvation is. Salvation is a multi-faceted subject. When you understand salvation (it's three phases), you will then understand why baptism saves.

As I have said to so many people who believe that Cornelius was saved before baptism that they have to look at the whole story. There are two parts, which the narrator has said, but the other part was the lesson for Peter and the Jews.
If baptism wasn't necessary, then why did Peter give the command to baptize them.

Don't forget this is the same Peter that is being sent to the gentiles in the house of Cornelious and Peter says plainly to the Jews, v17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?” 18 When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life. ”So that they would obey the scripture that tells us to be baptized, it does picture our death to self and to be risen to walk in newness of life. Peter plainly tell us why they were to be baptized v17, read it again. Also remember when John baptized Jesus in Matthrew what did Jesus tell him when John said this to him: Matt 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Notice in v14 John told Jesus he needed to be baptized by him and v15 Jesus tells John why all new believer should be baptized, V15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And then the last 2 verses God remarks of his beloved Son. Will you now believe what the bible plainly states without having to explain away this passage, because it is also taught in the whole new testament.

No, you are wrong about that, just read it from 1 Cor 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, "even as unto babes in Christ".
2"I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto "ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able". 3 "For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men"? These are clearly saved people in this text Paul is simply telling them they are babes in Christ and are acting as carnal people. Just read the words, they are self-explanatory. Remember they are babes in Christ, everyone is when first saved, we are commanded to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faith comes by hearing and by hearing the word of God. It is a lifetime of learning and growing. John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickens, the flesh profits nothing, the words I speak to you they are spirit, and they are life. Isaiah 55:11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that for which I purpose, and shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Phil 2:13 for(in the sense of because of, which is true in most places for is used, like when your mother told you to go to store and get bread, you went for bread ) for it is God working in you to will and to do of his good pleasure..

@@amos3three941 Thank you for your reply. However, the church in Corinth was founded in Acts 18. They were not babes in the woods. Paul was with them for 18 months at the foundation. They were following the gospel when they had 4 divisions (1 Cor 1) AND they had moral issues within the church (1 Cor 5). Incest, church discipline, secular lawsuits, problems with marital obligation, questions about idols and the like (1 Cor 5-8). THEN in 1 Cor 12-13, Paul is discussing how to MANNAGE THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. They had the Holy Spirit. However, they still were acting carinal. This was after 2 years of foundation WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT THE WHOLE TIME, with moral problems and secular issues. The whole point of 1 Corinthians was to remove and correct serious issues within the church that the people had seen as light issues, but Paul viewed as serious sin. Those issues being doctrinal, personal, and corporate conflict as well as purity. So yes, that is the Christians acting carnal while having the Holy Spirit.

The speaker says that the giving of the Holy Spirit to the believer has never been in order to save him.
The Word, however, says that " He that hath not the Spirit of Christ is none of his"( Rom.8:9).
In this verse, the Holy Spirit is also identified as the " Spirit of God".
So, until a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit, they are not saved/ born again yet.

He has to explain away exactly what the bible is teaching in Acts 11 and surprisingly people below are thanking him because of course they would have to admit that one does receive the Holy Spirit the moment they are saved. It is very clear in this passage. And read these verses from this chapter carefully, Acts 11:7 And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ 8 But I said, ‘Not so, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has at any time entered my mouth.’ 9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’ 10 Now this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11 At that very moment, three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea. 12 Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover, these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house. 13 And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter, 14 who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’ 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?” If you notice what Peter was told in v7 not so Lord, v9 then said to Peter "what God has cleansed YOU MUST NOT CALL COMMON. Keep reading after you swallow what you just read, now read what v16 says and you will again take a deep breathe v16 THEN I REMEMBERED THE WORD OF THE LORD, HOW HE SAID, JOHN baptized with water BUT YOU SHALL BE BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. v17 If therefore God gave them the SAME GIFT HE GAVE US WHEN WE BELIEVED ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, """WHO WAS I THAT COULD WITHSTAND GOD?""" Praise the Lord to those who see and believe, knowing that this will be explained away by some, but hopefully not all of you. John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this? 27 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” Of course, other scriptures teach this same truth. Reread chapter Acts 10-11 to see this truth in its whole context. Reread v 15-25, notice 17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?” Let the scripture say what it says, and then believe it!

You are saved when you receive the Holy Spirit when you repent by faith. Water baptism complete the new birth. If anyone have not the holy ghost.. they are not saved, not a christian, not in the church. How can you be saved without the Holy Ghost? The formula for salvation is in Acts 2:38. How can you confess Jesus unless you have the holy ghost (saved) ? The holy spirit, the Father, the spirit of Christ, is your savior and salvation.. only by obedient Faith. After faith you have to receive your salvation, the spirit of Christ who is the spirit of the father, the divine nature, the Word.. Christ life.

As it is in many scriptures, according to the original Greek, to believe " in" or " on" Jesus Christ translates as believing " into"( eis) Jesus Christ in order to be saved.
This speaks of be saved, or being born again" as the result of a process.
Acts 2:38 is that process. The only sign given in scripture that this process has been completed the moment it occurs is the speaking in tongues( Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19).

The point that the Holy Spirit can fall externally upon unsaved people is absolutely biblical, but in this case the context tells us that the Holy Spirit was in fact given for the purpose of demonstrating salvation. This is why Jesus sent Peter to Cornelius in the first place according to chapter 10. Consequently, a passage that was left out of this in chapter 11 states that the other Jews believed that God had granted the gentiles eternal life on the basis of the fact that the Spirit fell upon them when they heard and believed Peters preaching. No mention of baptism was even given to prove to the Jews the salvation of the gentiles.

    • @amos3three941
      @amos3three941 Před 6 měsíci

Exactly, just as Peter told the Jews the same thing that happened to those at Pentecost(Acts 2 , they heard the word and were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues(languages of those who said that they heard them speaking in their own tongues, understanding and then believing the gospel. I am not going to post all of Acts chapter 2 if you are interested enough about this and you will see the example that Peter is talking about in Chapter 10:11 at the house of Cornelius.

  • @robertnieten7259
    @robertnieten7259 Před 11 měsíci

I believe according to scripture that Cornelius and the other gentiles present in Acts ch 10 were baptiized before Peters' arrival by John the baptist the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins and as a result were spirirual cleansed sufficiently enough to recieve the Holy Spirit.
In Peters vision of the unclean animals based on Peters statement that he had never eaten anything unclean, the Lord said," Call not thou uncommon( unclean) what God hath cleansed.
First of all, the Lord is speaking of the gentiles Peter was soon to visit not actually animals.
Secondly, the words " hath cleansed" in the original Greek are indicative meaning something that has already taken place not will take place.
As it was under the old covenant the temple had to be cleansed by blood and water before the Spirit of God would enter.
Remission of sins as the result of water baptism is the removal of the guilt from past sins by the Holy Spirit, circumcising the believers conscience, and restoring it to its original childlike innocence from wilful sin. This is the " washing of regeneration" spoken of in Titus 3:5. The writer of Hebrews said that the blood of animals under the old covenant couldn't deal with the " consciousness of sins" ,which is guilt, in order that the Spirit of God could take up permanent resident in the temple ,but when a believer is baptized for the remission of sins the blood of Christ accomplishes that.
The bottom line is that the gentiles could never have recieved the Holy Spirit in Acts ch.10 without the temple of their bodies having been spiritually cleansed through water baptism.
The only way this could have happened for the gentiles was if when the Lord shed His blood at Calvary those baptized by Johns, sins were then remitted.
The reason that Peter ordered rhe gentiles to be rebaptized was to take on the bridegrooms' name, Jesus Christ, by it being called over them. In the same way, in a traditional marriage ceremony the bridegrooms name is called over the bride and as a result she takes on His name.

If one reads where you start "I believe according to scripture that Cornelius and the other gentiles present in Acts ch 10 were baptized before Peters' arrival by John the baptist the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins and as a result were spiritual cleansed sufficiently enough to receive the Holy Spirit". Only problem with this is you don't actually have any scripture to prove your statement, therefore why would anyone place more value on what you believe than what it actually says in the text? Because the other Jews statement also doesn't agree with you either. Just, if I could say it nicely, read what it actually says should be sufficient to see the truth.

    • @robertnieten7259
      @robertnieten7259 Před 6 měsíci

@amos3three941 Understanding the scriptures, as I'm sure that you already know, is being able to properly interpret what is written in scripture comparing scripture to scripture.
In Acts ch.10 with Peters roof top vision with Cornelius' messengers approaching Peters' house, the Lords message to Peter wasn't about eating unclean animals but what he ,and all jews, considered unclean, the gentiles God said,"Call not though unclean what I hath cleansed" is refering to the gentiles Peter would soon meet.
According to the original Greek, " hath" is something that's already been done. The only way that would have been possible in the case of the gentiles is if they had been baptized by John, the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
And that when Jesus shed His blood at Calvary it became effective for those previously baptized by John.
Lastly, the Holy Spirit will not occupy an unclean temple and in the case of believers it can only occur through water baptism.

  • @robertnieten7259
    @robertnieten7259 Před rokem

Thank you for the informative video.
I would like to add that your conclusion that one could be saved, after pentecost, before recieving the Holy Spirit is disputed by scripture. First of all, the Word says that," He that hath not recieved the Spirit of Christ is none of his"( Rom.8:9). The Spirit of Christ is the Holy Spirit.
Secondly, scripture proves that Cornelius and his guests were baptized several years before Peter arrived by John the baptist.
Secondly, there is what is proven in scripture as The Law Of Repetition. According to this law the Word will repeat something said,and/ or an event three times to direct our attention to an important spiritual truth.
Three times ,in Peters' rooftop vision, a sheet was let down filled with unclean creatures wheres as the Lord told Peter," Rise Peter kill and eat". Peter replied " Not so Lord never have i eaten anything unclean".
The Lord replied three times," What God hath cleaned call not thou common or unclean".
This vision is not only speaking of the soon joining of the gentiles to the children of God, but more specifically to his soon visit to Cornelius. In the koine Greek the words, " hath cleaned" ( KaOapos) are indicative and describe a situation that actually is as opposed to a situation that might be, is wished for, or is commanded to be.
So in reference to Peters' soon visit to Cornelius the Lord was telling him, bascically, that those gentiles are already clean spiritually. The only way that is is scripturally possible is if they had been baptized for the remission of sin by John and when the Lord shed His blood at Calvary those remission of sins for those baptized by John took effect. Remission of sins is defined as a " cleansing from sins" or the consequences of sin which is guilt.
Lastly, we know that the Holy Spirit will not occupy an unclean temple, the gentiles, whose temple was their bodies, had to already have been cleansed beforehand.
Where John was baptizing was only a days travel from where Cornelius lived.
The reason that Peter ordered them rebaptized after they recieved the Holy Spirit is so they could take on the " bridegrooms' name, Jesus Christ, by it being called over them. Just as a bride takes on a bridegrooms' name when a minister calls his name over her, " Do you Mary Smith take John Jones to be your lawfully wedded husband"? Now she has taken on his name.

Read chaper 11 slowly.

    • @robertnieten7259
      @robertnieten7259 Před 6 měsíci

@amos3three941 Thanks for your reply. The proof texts that you requested are in Acts ch.10. The scriptures therein themselves prove what I spoke about in my last comment.
The Holy Spirit cannot be recieved by a believer until after belief, repentance, and water baptism.
The reason for this is that being saved is being born again and just as natural birth is the end result of a process, so is spiritual rebirth.
Just as under the old covenant the temples High priest had to apply water and blood before the Spirit of God would occupy the Holy Of Holies, so is water and blood and important source of the temple of our bodies spiritually being cleansed so that the Holy Spirit will occupy it or be recieved.
Water baptism is the mode by which the blood of Christ cleanses our bodies spiritually.
In the case of the gentiles in Acts ch.10, the temple of their bodies had to have been spiritually cleansed in order for them to have recieved the Holy Spirit.
Peter commanded them to be rebaptized afterwards in the name of Jesus Christ because by calling the name of Jesus Christ they take on His name just as a natural bride takes on the bridegrooms name as the minister calls it over her.
The name of Jesus Christ, according to scripture is the name of all His family in heaven and earth.( Eph.3:15).

I did not say one could receive the Holy Spirit without being saved, I did say Cornelieus and those gathered there were saved because it says they Acts 11: 13 And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter, 14 who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’ 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?” 18 When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.” v15 clearly says the Holy Spirit fell on them as upon us at the beginning speaking of Penetecost, 16 then I membered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water "BUT YOU SHALL BE BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. 17 IF THEREFORE GOD GAVE THEM THE SAME GIFT AS HE GAVE US WHO I THAT I COULD WITHSTAND GOD. and you can read the rest . Acts 11:15 is badly worded. Peter is talking about two different ideas.
11:15 en tōi arxasthai me lalein. "En" is tied with the aorist (past-tense ) infinitive "arxasthai" and the accusative of general reference (tied to second idea). The second infinitive "lalein" (to speak) is dependent on "arxasthai." So we have a phrase, "In the beginning to speak as to me" or "Even as on us at the beginning he spoke." (Word order is not good inthe English) All aorists must comform to the past tense. Different manuscripts differ here and there but all regard the same expression that Peter is referring to the past.
Instead of “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning."
Better: "As it was told me, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning."
No secular historian uses the phrase. The rest of Acts confirms that Peter was referring to Pentecost.

@@ironside388 The entire video was about how Cornelius was not "saved" when he received the Holy Spirit under the preaching of Peter in Acts 10. The presenter gave several reasons for why he believes that Cornelius was not "saved" when the Holy Spirit came upon "all who heard the message".
One of his reasons was that "The purpose of the Holy Spirit was never to be an indicator of whether someone is saved or not".
I simply posted scripture which indicates that is not true. The Holy Spirit being poured out on someone does give indication that someone has been saved.
The main purpose of the Holy Spirit coming on the household of Cornelius was to show Peter that Gentiles can also receive salvation.
Peter was preaching and when Cornelius and those with him came to faith, what is described in Eph 1:13. They heard the Gospel, believed, and were sealed by the Holy Spirit.
In the first century a "seal" was both a mark and a enclosure. The most common usage was to put wax on a letter to enclose the letter and mark that the sender of the letter was authentic. The was would be imprinted with the senders "Seal" so that the recipient would know who sent the letter and that the letter had not be tampered with.
In this case, the Holy Spirit came upon Cornelius and all those that believed indicating that they were saved.
You can take it as a rebuke or correction or however you want. But he puts forth a poor argument that is contradicted by scripture.

Matthew 24:24 says "For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect."
I believe those Christ was talking about in Matthew 7:22-23 to either be those false Christ and Prophets or their followers. They aren't filled with the Spirit. They are given power by Satan to do signs and wonders in order to lead people astray. They may even be shocked to find out they have been deceived and aren't serving the real Christ and are instead following a false Christ.
At any rate, it is clear that at some point, there will be people able to do "signs and wonders" without knowing Jesus and without having the Holy Spirit. If they had the Holy Spirit then they would "know Jesus".
13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 1 John 4:13. If those people who did miracles had the Spirit then Christ would abide in them and therefore would "know them".

@@ironside388 Are people possessed by the devil to perform many signs and wonders?
I don't know. Both Matthew 7:22-23 and Matthew 24:24 are talking about "End Times" Matthew 24 is about signs for the end of the age and Matthew 7:22-23 is about the day of Judgement by Christ. Any answer to "are we in the end times" would be pure speculation on my part.
How do we know that someone has the Spirit of God?(Holy Spirit)?
We don't, at least not in an infallible way. All true believers have the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:9 says 'You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him." and I've already quoted John 7:39. However, not everyone who claims to be a follower of Christ is truly a follower of Christ. Some people are hypocrites and say they are Christian for any number of reasons, when they have never actually been convicted of sin and repented. So while we can never no for 100% certainty because some people are just good actors and can learn how Christians are supposed to act and act like a Christian . However, we can look at what people say and what people do as indicators of a Spirit lead Christian life.
      1. They have been Baptized. Depending on your theology baptism either imparts the Holy Spirit or is a confirmation that someone is being lead by the Spirit. Either way. True Believers will have been or seek to be Baptized.
      2. They seek to be filled with and walk in the Spirit. Being filled with the Spirit is not the same as receiving the Spirit. The Greek word for "filled" in Eph 5:18 means be "complete or perfect". You could literally translate it "Be complete with the Spirit". Every true believer receives the Spirit. Being filled with the Spirit is an ongoing daily process of submitting to the Spirits control and power. It is to be completely controlled by the Spirit. It is to rely completely on the Spirit to guide us and empower us. The Holy Spirit uses the Word (the sword of the Spirit) to show us how to live and then the Holy Spirit empowers us to live out the teachings of the Word. The Word tells us to believe and repent. The Holy Spirit gives us the desire and ability to believe and repent. The Word tells us to share the Gospel, the Holy Spirit gives us the desire and ability to share the Gospel. And so on... You can look the first part of Romans 8, Ephesians 5, and pretty much the entire book of 1 John to what it looks like to "Walk in and be filled by the Spirit"
      3. The have good fruit. In the Bible fruit is used as a word to describe someones attitude, conduct and works. Jesus tells us you can tell a false prophet by "their fruit" in Matthew 7:20 Galatians 5:22-23 gives us a list of the "Fruits of the Spirit".
I could go on and on about how to tell if someone is a true believer (Love, Worship, give...) But I also acknowledge that people can fake the external evidence of being a true Christian and having the Spirit. However, If someone is faking being a Christian then odds are they will eventually mess us and the truth will be known.
So while I can't infallibly say if someone else "has the Spirit" I can infallibly say that I have the Spirit. While I can only see other peoples words and actions I can know the status of my heart and soul. The Bible is very clear that we can know we "have eternal life" 1 John 5:13 says "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life." 1 John gives many evidences that we have eternal life, including having the Spirit.
If you know in your heart and soul that you truly trust in Christ, if you have been convicted of sin, have repented of past sins, and seek to live a holy life then you have the Holy Spirit. Otherwise you would have never done any of those things.
Now, you can say you trust in Jesus but if your sin doesn't bother you then you are deceived. 1 John 1:6 says "If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth"
It is also possible to live a moral life and not have the Spirit. There are plenty of "good people" who understand the difference between right and wrong. Being moral and walking in the Spirit is not the same thing. For a Christian, morality is made known by the Word and is put into action by the Spirit. For the non-Christian, morality comes from culture and societal norms. And as we are currently seeing, those norms change over time.
I'm sorry this is so long but you asked question that can't be answered in a few words.

Being able to do signs and wonders does not necessarily mean someone is a Christian and is indwelled with the Holy Spirit.
However, all believers have the Holy Spirit.
Not doing "signs and wonders" doesn't mean you don't have the Spirit. I've heard some say that if you don't speak in tongues or heal the sick then you don't have the Holy Spirit. That is just false teaching.
1 Cor 12:4-6 says "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone."

Why would someone wait until they are in a situation when they are about to die to want to be saved? That implies they have willfully disobeyed God all their life. I doubt anyone is willing to give all their life to God if they intentionally disobeyed God up until they knew they were going to die. That sounds like a person who is only trying to find a loop hole to get out of hell. People have a false belief that as long as you have not died physically you still have opportunity to be saved. The Bible teaches you can be lost with no hope before you die physically.

If you're saying that the Law of Christ (being baptized for salvation included), is only binding upon hearing it, then you're implying that people today that have never heard the gospel aren't beholden to the plan of salvation under the new covenant

Then he says that Cornelius was living as a saved man under the law of the gentiles until he heard the words of Peter and had to make a decision to accept or reject Christ.
      Here's my issue:
If what Don is saying is true, then anyone who has never heard of Christ, EVEN TODAY, is saved under whatever law applies to them, not the covenant that started when Christ died. That is a huge contradiction in scripture, since Jesus is now the only way to the father, following his death and the new covenant beginning. Hopefully that makes sense.

I, too, am not necessarily convinced of this particular argument. From reading the relevant passages in Scripture, I don't think there's enough to clearly assert that Cornelius was definitely and unquestionably not saved before being baptized, but neither is there enough to assert that he in fact was. However, when in doubt, always go back to the words of Jesus Christ: "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved." -Mark 16:16 Rather than trying to find perhaps one special instance of someone being saved without being baptized (Cornelius was the first Gentile convert), and this being literally the only case in which that could even be asserted, for those of us living today without the holy and chosen apostles on this earth to speak the word to us, we should just follow the instructions and command clearly given by Jesus Christ in the Great Commission; that is belief + baptism = salvation.

Gospel broadcasting network, I take it you are joking, AREN'T YOU, A person can't be baptised with the Holy Ghost unless they are already saved.
You twist the scriptures to get your erroneous beliefs.
Cornelius accepted salvation and straight away was baptised with the Holy Ghost.
Please note, Acts 10: 43, Peter said whoever believes in Jesus has the remission of sins. Then v44 says AS Peter WAS speaking, the people were baptised with the Holy Ghost. They must have believe that Jesus remits sins and got saved, just before they were baptised with the Holy Ghost.
I know it's true, because in Acts 11: 14 Peter said he told them words that would save them.
Peter didn't mention the Holy Ghost or the need to be baptised with the Holy Ghost, he just told them about Jesus and salvation.
In v 15, Peter said the Holy Spirit fell on them as on us at the beginning. Then Peter remembered what Jesus said to him, then they would be baptised with the Holy Ghost.
The Apostles and disciples were born again when Jesus breathed the Holy Ghost into them in Jn 20: 22. That's what Peter meant when He said the Holy Spirit fell on him at the beginning, he wasn't talking the baptism with the Holy Ghost, he was talking about the rebirth in Jn 20: 22.
I know that they were saved at that time, because in Jn 21, Peter had the Agape love of God in him, and he couldn't have the Agape love of God in him unless he was born again.
So, Peter knew that Cornelius and the people were saved seconds before they were baptised with the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Spirit is for the purpose of getting people born again, Jn 3: 3--8
The disciples in Acts 8 were saved, (Born again) and baptised in water, but they weren't baptised with the Holy Ghost until Peter and John came from Jerusalem and laid hands on them.
Paul was saved in Acts 9: 6 but he wasn't baptised with the Holy Ghost until 3 days later, and he wasn't baptised in water at that time.
The disciples in Acts 19 were saved, they could have been saved for up to twenty years, but they weren't baptised with the Christian baptism or with the Holy Ghost until they met Paul.
Paul, (Inspired by the Holy Spirit) knew they were already saved, because he said have you been baptised with the Holy Ghost SINCE YOU BELIEVED.
Acts 2: 38 in the Greek doesn't say they have to be baptised in water or with the Holy Ghost to be saved. Or baptism remits sins, Or baptised in Jesus name only.
You people are so blinded by the devil that you can't see the Biblical truths.
You aren't saved, because you don't know the Biblical gospel of salvation.

@@wesleycrisp6523 in the Biblical Greek there are persons and numbers, and they have to agree in order to build a doctrine,

Repent and remission of sins are both the 2nd person and Plural in number, so remission of sins agrees with Repent but baptised is the 3rd person and singular in number,
So it doesn't agree with remission of sins, so you can't build a doctrine on water baptism for the remission of sins, But you can build a doctrine on Repent for the remission of sins, Lk 24: 47.
This is how it reads in the Biblical Greek, and this is how the people would have heard and understood Peter.

Another example of why one doesn’t build all their doctrine based on the events in the Book of Acts alone. Acts records the spreading of the gospel to groups and individuals for the first time. Clearly, this an example of a unique situation. If one takes a single event in Acts as the norm to build a doctrine, you’ll have to ask - does one receive the Holy Spirit before or after water baptism?
Does one receive the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands after baptism? Should speaking in tongues accompany the reception of the Holy Spirit?
I believe that according to the totality of scripture, baptism is when one is normally saved. Was Cornelius saved prior to baptism? Yes, I believe so. Was he also immersed in Christ following the reception of the Spirit? Yes. Water & Spirit working together again.

29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household. Acts 16:29-34
Acts [16:30-34] These verses are often cited as evidence that a person is saved the moment he believes in Jesus. However, was this pagan jailer in a position at that moment to do so? No, he would have to be taught Who, how, and what to believe. No wonder, then, Luke records immediately: “they spoke the word of the Lord to him” (Acts 16:32). If Romans 10:17 can be trusted (and it can), the words which Paul and Silas proclaimed generated faith in the jailer. And those same words surely included the necessity of repentance, confession, and baptism, because the jailer immediately manifested the fruit of repentance (by washing their stripes), and likewise was immediately baptized (not waiting until morning or the weekend). Observe carefully Luke’s meticulous documentation, that it was only after the jailer believed, repented, and was baptized, that the jailer was in a position to rejoice. Only then did Luke describe the jailer as “having believed in God” (vs. 34); now standing in a state of perfected belief (the force of the Greek perfect).

So according to your doctrine, the rulers that believed in Christ were saved but scripture states otherwise.

@@dsvet No, there is only one baptism that saves you and that is Holy Spirit baptism.
When you have believed on Christ alone for salvation then you have repented unto life!
Jonah 3: 10 calls turning from sins , "works."
You are adding a lifetime of works to the gospel message.

No they did. You did not read the entire story of the conversion of the Philippian Jailer. You stopped at Acts 16:31. That is not when Paul taught the Jailer the gospel. The very next verses says THEN THEY TAUGHT THE WORD OF CHRIST TO THE JAILER. Acts 16:30; 31-32; 33,34. *Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house* Paul had not spoke the gospel to the Jailer at verse 30. Now listen to what Paul taught the Jailer Acts 16:33 *And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes, and immediately he and all his family were baptized* Just as Jesus taught, Mark 16:15-16
