- HERE YOU WILL SEE MY * EARLY ARRIVAL VIDEO* OF THE FDNY BATTLING A MAJOR STUBBORN 4TH ALARM FIRE IN A 3 STORY COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENT ON 3RD AVENUE IN THE HARLEM AREA OF MANHATTAN IN NEW YORK CITY.
What is amazing is the thousands of gallons of water need to extinguish a fire. I think most folks have no idea how stubborn a fire can be. Thanks john. Excellent video.
I AGREE HENRY.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Great job on this one J.J. This fire was extremely hard to find, and access. Fires that start inside walls and ceilings can be extremely difficult to locate and access. This allows fire to spread unchecked, until it burns through, somewhere.
Great job by the FDNY and excellent video, as always.
YES IT WAS A VERY TRICKY AND DANGEROUS FIRE INDEED.....THEY HAD A VERY HARD TIME FINDING IT UNTIL IT POPPED OUT OF THE ROOF.....THE FDNY DID A GREAT JOB INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Excellent job on a tough fire John! It amazes me how you always find the best view especially finding a rooftop if need be. Appreciate your dedication.
WELL, I TRY HARD TO THE BEST ANGLES FOR YOU ALL.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Amazing coverage John in difficult conditions. Very stubborn and smoky fire with hard access. Thank You for your dedication. Stay safe out there.
THANKS SO MUCH JOHN.....
This building was built in 1910. Due to grandfather rules this building s exempt from sprinklers and auto fire alarms. The walls in these buildings were covered with lath and plaster vice current day wall board. These buildings often have voids from electrical wiring, gas and plumbing piping. When a fire starts in the walls of these building, and if not located promptly the fire will spread throughout the building. Thus you have a hot smokey fire. Often times the roofs are covered with layers of paper and tar with wooden beams throughout as well. The buildings records list the occupancy as a commercial furniture store with showrooms on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors as per the 1964 certificate of occupancy.
WELL, THANKS SO VERY MUCH FOR THE GREAT INFORMATION YOU HAVE POSTED ON HERE.....IT IS A GREAT WAY TO UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE FIRES IN THESE OLDER BUILDINGS.....
Good point however this job originally came in as an AFA
@@Yeahwell24 Whats AFA?
@@patricktilley8355 Automatic Fire Alarm
That explains why some of the fires you video are so tough to put out. I figured it was older buildings with old flammable building materials.
You are a hero for your work on FDNY response videos. You put us right there. Incredible work. If you need donations towards a rain jacket ask and I’ll buy you a GoreTex. I swear by those jackets. I did 12 hours outside in a downpour amd stayed dry, warm.

Excellent video John, you were there quickly
YES AND THANKS SO MUCH ROY.....
This happened around my location. Thanks for the Video.
AH, OK.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
John,
Exposure 1 is the main address of the building for which the call came.
The other exposures go clockwise from there. 2 left side, 3 back of the building, 4 right side.
I heard radio chat talking about 4a which would be the building right to exposure 4 (2 doors right to exposure1, which would be when you face the building: exposure 1 (main entrance)->exposure 4 (building on the right side of the main building) ->exposure 4a (building to the right of exposure 4). Exposure Number-letter (ex. 4a) can also be an annexe independent of the main building or a shed or a garage.
YES, I ALWAYS FORGET! HEHEHE! THANKS SO MUCH ANDREE FOR THE INFO.....

Nice work JJ!! Tough fire to get coverage but as usual, you came thru!! Looks like you ate a lot of smoke on this one!
YES, IT WAS VERY ROUGH INDEED! DIFFICULT FOR ALL THE MEMBERS FOR SURE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁LION c LIKE No. 92---> Wherever you go the smoke will go too! No furniture store. Exodus Transitions seems to be for M2F and F2M transitions. Exodus seems to have two floors above the laundromat, and another two or three floors in the building next to that. Exodus also has space in the building across the street. What they do I don't Know yet.
INTERESTING SET OF IMFORMATION.....THANKS SO MUCH FOR CLEARING THAT UP.....

Excellent coverage my friend loved how you had that view from the rear of the building until that smoke pushed you out great job by TL-14/23 they put the hammer down, but that’s the first time I ever saw white and black smoke at the same time could have been some type of chemicals in the rear great job by everyone involved E-74 with the cameo appearance and representing!!!! 1:59:20
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOUR ENTIRE COMMENT RUSH.....THANKS SO MUCH.....

The fire station's right across the street from this fire
YE INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Really great coverage. This was a difficult fire. Exposures, multiple floors, buildings were different heights and roof collapse.
Is it true that the blacker smoke contains fibers that can still burn?
Any. Color smoke can burn.
YES, IT WAS A TERRIBLE AND COMPLICATED FIRE TO FIGHT INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Yes, the smoke has flammable gasses that can and do ignite. As an instructor I used to tell the guys to consider some certain smoke conditions as similar to swimming in a lake of gasoline. If you have ever seen or been close to a flashover you will see what I mean. Reading smoke conditions is a very important skill that every firefighter should master.
The strength of the flame am color looks like it's gas feed, Jj you do such an amazing job at all youbdonfor us to see the best angle, hopefully you were able to get some rest and warmed up. Keep up the amazing job. Again thank you for all you do for us to watch. 2n2 see you on the other side. Stay safe brother
WELL, IT DID LOOK LIKE A GAS FED FIRE TO ME.....AND YOU ARE MOST WELCOME......I DO ENJOY DOING THIS FOR YOU ALL.....THANKS SO MUCH TIM.....

HAHAHA! OK AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
Fantastic footage! Stay safe brother!
THANKS SO MUCH JAKE.....
Hi John. Thanks for another great video. Regarding the second alarm, per your video the chief tells the aide to transmit a full second at 10:00, but it is not communicated to Manhattan dispatcher until 16:00. Does the time stamp on the video reflect real time? Otherwise any reason for the delay? Thanks
WELL, THE VIDEO FOOTAGE SHOWS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED AND THE TIME IT ALL HAPPENED AND I AM NOT SURE WHY IT TOOK SO LONG BUT IT DID AL.....;o(
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 John: Thanks for the reply. You were not crazy after all to hear the 2nd much after the chief had requested it. Glad to see many people praising you for your videos. The combination of the various angles of the fire scene, the fireground audio and your commentary is priceless! Bless You.
1 is front 2 is left side if looking at the front of the building 3 is the back and 4 is the right side of the building or depending on where you are it would be side A is front B is left side C is the back and D is right side ... then floor 1 2 3 4 or division 1 2 3 4 etc... hope that helps ya figure out and understand it better ..
YES, I PRETTY MUCH KNOW IT BUT I JUST FORGET WHEN I JUMP AROUND LOOKING FOR THE ANGLES.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
36:17 looked like a giant blue gas flame coming out of that roof. John ,please don't take all that smoke for our sales. We want to keep you around!
I HEAR YA, UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE IT PAUL.....YES THAT FLAME DID LOOK A LITTLE BLUE AND GREEN TO ME TOO.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
John , I meant don't take all that smoke for our sakes. I have copd and its not fun. Hope you at least had an N95 mask on or a double filtered respirator. I don't think I've ever seen you take that much smoke before. Tell sky this too. I care about him as well.
Great coverage yet again. Saw the same fire on another channel but nowhere near as interesting as this one. Well done👍
WELL, THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
I suppose the older the building, the more wood is inside. A common problem fire departments have to face in historic downtowns in Germany, where some buildings may date back to the 16th century or so. Added to this problem are small, winding alleys that one usually does not find in New York, making it hard on the firetrucks to reach a fire building.
Nevertheless I'm feeling kind of sorry for this red house, although its architecture wouldn't make it for the National Register. Ever since I've spent my teenage years in an old nineteenth - century vintage Belgian Chateau, I like old buildings with creaking floor planks and doors.
All the best!
I UNDERSTAND.....THX.....
Side 1 is the front, then clockwise, 2 is the left side, 3 is the rear, 4 is the right side of the original fire building. The exposure buildings follow the same pattern.
YES INDEED AND THANKS SO MUCH JAMES.....
This is an early 20th century structure. So you have lath board and plaster walls, with open space inside for a fire to spread up. And probably no sprinklers.
YES INDEED JOHN.....A VERY DIFFICULT FIRE FOR SURE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
one of the few last old buildings in East Harlem. that building has survived some very rough years unlike many others that burned in the 70s snd 80s
I AGREE....THANKS AGAIN.....
Boy that was some fire! Great video as usual. I get very nervous when I hear collapse. Are the members ok? Those guys had their work cut out for them with overhaul and wash down after the fire was put out. They were exhausted before they even started that part of it. You always film the best and the most. Thank you.
YES, EVERYONE WAS OK MAUREEN.....THIS WAS A VERY STUBBORN AND DANGEROUS FIRE TO FIGHT AS THEY COULD NOT REALLY FIND IT IN THE BEGGINING.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Oddly this one just came up in my feed. Stupid algorithm. Great coverage of this stubborn mess. I think you eat more smoke on these fires than the smoke eaters. You should put in for an air mask. Great video John.
From the roof shot it looks like the main fire is burning in a perfect circle. Once again a great video. You always look for the best shot of flames. I don't know know what camera you are using but try to shut off the auto focus. Rule of focus is to zoom in all the way and manually focus then when you pull back all should be in focus.
YES, IT BURNED IN A VERY CIRCULAR PATTERN.....I WILL TRY TO FIGURE OUT THE ZOOM THING AND OF COURSE THANKS SO MUCH GREG.....
