  • More info about travel to Athens: www.ricksteves.com/europe/gree... The National Archaeological Museum in Athens is the single best place on earth to see ancient Greek artifacts. Strolling through the chronologically displayed collection - from 7,000 BC to AD 500 - is like watching a time-lapse movie of the evolution of art. You'll go from the stylized figurines of the Cycladic Islands, to the golden artifacts of the Mycenaeans, to the stiff, stoic kouros statues of the Archaic age...to the David-like balance of the golden age, to wet T-shirt, buckin’-bronco Hellenistic, and finally, to the influence of the Romans. #ricksteveseurope #ricksteves #athens

Dagob No, Macedonians were Greek just like th Athenians, Spartans, Thessalians, Cretans, Corinthians, Miletians etc were Greek. They had a Greek culture, they had Greek names, they spoke a Greek dialect, they worshipped Greek gods and most importantly they self identified as Greek. In fact it was the Macedonians who spread Greek culture to the world. The notion that Macedonians were not Greek comes from the ultranationalist ideology prevalent in the recently founded country of North Macedonia, comprised of a Slavic nation that claims a large part of Greek history and territory. The Slavs actually reached Macedonia some 1000 years after Alexander the Great

Love the statue of the beautiful woman and the faun. Notice how, after falling in love with her, he is trying to take her away (little cupid above might have had something to do with it) and she is about to wack him with her sandal?! It's true, nothing is new under the sun: since the dawn of time women have use shoes has weapons! lol.

And to think that the Greeks don't have world class museums to house and display their ancient heritage, we should entrust that to the more cosmopolitan museums of New York, London, Berlin etc, after all they know best!.

This is ridiculous. The acropolis museum is new amd wonderful
The rest of the museums are in a good condition and artifacts are taken care of really well.
But yeah, let greek and other artifacts in The British (or other museums) where they really don't care or even sell them undercover!!
