I am so tired of seeing failed retreads all over the highway. I can't imagine how much damage to cars they have caused and the cost of damage must offset the savings they get by retreading tires. I wish it was illegal. It's a shame your car got hit Paul.

rizrz34 you are 100% correct. Retreads place so much damage, danger, and dirt on the roads and no one is trying to stop it. We should call our government or make a petition no idea what else we can do?!?

this is where a dash cam would be great help to you. You can show this to the state and they could help you out to the damage.

Excuse my ignorance but it is not possible to just swap out the door skin instead of replacing the whole door? I've heard of this being done in the past but not sure if it still applies.
This happened to me a few months ago. Makes me so mad!! Same damage but more centered. Intercooler was bent as well but not leaking. Retreads should be illegal or at least illegal not to remove from the road! If you see the truck on the side of the road it came from, can you get their insurance information for repairs?

Why is the vinyl being covered? It's a secondary application and not original to the vehicle, let alone necessary. Do you have a "modification coverage" clause in your policy?

Why are retreaded tires even legal
It depends on the situation, retread tires are not legal on steer wheels of buses. Most semi fleets that I'm aware of will not use them on steer wheels. The rest of the tires are free game from a legal standpoint.
They are perfectly safe. They only fail when the owner of them is negligent and doest check his tire pressures.
@@BlackForestRacing WRONG WRONG WRONG. Retreads are safe yes however tire pressures are just the tip of the iceburg. From the quality of the casing to the quality of job done at the cap shop not to mention the quality of the glues and retread rubber. FIY all that rubber you see on the road . . . the majority of them are VIRGIN and not caps. Trash trucks can legally run caps on the steer

Those estimates are total BS!
Firstly if you’re replacing the ac condenser, you’re practically taking everything off, as if you’re replacing any other radiator ( Coolant and/or transmission fluid) .
I don’t live in the US so I can’t say much about spare parts prices, but I can see that the estimate for the Condenser is about 400$us, in europe you will not pay anything more than 100$ for a OEM equivalent Valeo brand item.
To me these prices are overpriced even for OEM Dealers standards in Europe. Therefore I find it hard for a third party repair shop to charge these prices, even when factoring in the fact that you’re in the US.
Hope you get the car back on the road as soon as possible, as I’m a great big fan of this project car and the channel!

Lucky BB 2 accidents and 2 deductibles. Neither at fault, 1st will be under comprehensive 2nd will be under collision coverage.

Why don't they make cars more robust? Older cars weren't so readily damaged by incidents like this. I hit a racoon with my mk6 golf TDI, and it cost $5,000. Up 'til now I thought that was a lot! But back in the day I hit 3 racoons, 3 separate incidents, with my old Dodge Neon, and the car was 100% fine. Oh yeah, and then there were the other incidents, like a giant snapping turtle I hit...but no damage of any consequence.
The force from a 15lb+ retread hitting a car at 60mph is quite a bit. That would even bend a metal bumper from any make 60-70's american car.
As for the neon, that was an amazing amount of luck. Build quality on the neons were less than fantastic, I should know I had one that I drove and worked on.
Because old cars will kill pedestrians, while newer cars are built to standards to help protect not only the people in the car, but also unfortunate pedestrians that may get hit by it.

You don't understand why insurance companies for example wont pay 20000 dollar damage for a car that's worth/can be replaced for 10000

@@arablues4142 yes and to me I don't see the the point in totaling a car that is still drivable.
This is the problem with insurance companies. When a car has little damage or damage that doesn't crush the car upon impact or at the least damage that messes up the frame that is cosmetic work or has replaceable parts, they don't want to pay for it.
Same with health insurance. They don't want to cover the payments of medication or or surgery that can improve someone's life that is medically needed.
But as for auto insurance, look at Germany. The insurance companies there will look at a car like this and instead of automatically totaling the car, they will evaluate the car and see if if the car is worthy of them paying to repair it. In short, if the frame is not damaged or if they car has sentimental value, they will pay for the cars repairs.
