    Dude, thank you, since the version of retro arch that I have is through Steam and not through the developers themselves and it has been updated since this video upload, I was able to add the bios files in as you instructed and now I can also play the Saturn port for Sonic 3d blast, it works well for me since I am using a W10 tower with upper-middle specs

      @ernestmac13 Před rokem +1

      I think it's up to you to find the files; as I believe emulation sites that discuss emulation and or make emulators that don't host room files, avoid directly linking to bios files to avoid the same problems hosting game roms causes.

    Awesome video! But I seem to have encountered a problem with the emulation as I tested sega rally championship and it often dipped a bit when playing the game. Which is odd given that my pc has some powerful stats (10th gen i7 and rtx 2060). Are there some settings I can tweak to improve the performance or do I have to wait for more beetle saturn optimization?

    Just a quick question, why you use Beetle instead of Kronos?

    • @HowtoRetro
      @HowtoRetro  Před 3 lety

      Perfect! I've stuck with Beetle Saturn as that's what I've been familiar with and have not had many issues with it, it seems pretty robust, granted there aren't quite as much config options with Beetle Saturn, but I've gone for tried and tested from personal experience rather than anything else.
      I'll definitely give Kronos a look though as though as I hear it's come on a long way.

    • @nukedoom
      @nukedoom Před 3 lety +1

      @@HowtoRetro I will give both a try. I remember using Kronos a while back, it worked well. Will try Beetle this time. Just have to decide which games to grab. Here in Brazil, Sega was so dominant. I played on my cousin's Master System, than I got a Genesis for myself but switched to a Playstation later in 99 ~ 2000. But I remember seeing all those fighting games arcade perfect running on the Saturn and being impressed. But compete twith the PSX 3D library made Sega loose traction even here.

    • @HowtoRetro
      @HowtoRetro  Před 3 lety +1

      @@nukedoom I've always been amazed when I read about the stamina of Sega systems in Brazil, particularly the Master System.
      But yes, the Saturn really was underappreciated at the time, 3D games were the new thing and it just didn't get the support it perhaps deserved due to the PlayStations quickly established dominance. Some great fighting games as you say though!

      There are only some file types that Retroarch runs for each console, or that each core does. *.cue and *.chd seem to work in my expercience; but You might have some problems with others, you could find info on that. Hope this is helpful.

  • @ytsuxmuhd4998

    I have followed every step, to the T. It doesn't create a playlist for the Saturn games for me. So I tried something.
    I already had the cores downloaded, so I loaded the Beetle core, then from the RA main menu (not desktop menu) I clicked Load Content, browsed to the Saturn file I wanted (I wasn't sure whether to load the iso or bin. So I tried both just to be sure.) and lo and behold, *it didn't work* .
    So I tried it with all my diff games, to make sure it wasn't just the 1, and it stopped prompting me to use Beetle (took it off the menu altogether), and crashed when other cores were selected. So I gave up.
    Overall just a very unreliable emulator (my opinion,as this is not my first experience with RA), would like suggestions for a direct emulator? If you know any.

      Sorry to hear you have not had much luck with Retroarch. I used to use Mednafen for Sega Saturn, it is recommended you use a front end for Mednafen too as Mednafen is command line driven without a front end.
      Ive recently seen Mednaffe as a front end for Mednafen which looks pretty good.

    I ran everything as you did, including downloading the bios file, but it's running at an appallingly slow speed. I must have tried four emulators now and they've all got issues, either too slow, way too fast, or won't load at all.
    I think I'm going have to give up on Saturn emulation. I'm totally gutted, because although I've got the console still, the games are far too rare and expensive.

It's cost me about £180, which includes the cost of a 400GB SD card, but it's been worth it. Certainly a far cheaper option than buying the physical games, although obviously not as cheap as an emulator.
