    Hi
    This car came to me with the Airbag light on.
    The airbag module reports the 00588 fault, drivers airbag circuit too low.
    What at the start pointed to a faulty igniter, later revealed to be something rather interesting...
    Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.
    DIY tool used:
    • Airbag circuit tester....

    Great video LM , guys do not try to measure airbag with multimeter, it can be deployed ! If you still have to do it , put the airbag away from the car and keep your distance.

      Deployment of an airbag being initiated by a digital multimeter is quite unlikely. I checked the test current of my Uni-T and Fluke meter in all ranges, the peak measured current was 1 mA. according to Keithley 50 mA is safe, Honda suggests under 10 mA, it may be possible to deploy one with an old moving coil meter.

    Well done mate, as always;
    I repaired a Golf VII with similar faults, sometimes resistance too high... sometimes resistance to low. All components was changed in dealer, clock spring, Airbag modul, parallel wiring, ECU... but faults comes again.
    Once in our laboratory and after check all diagnose informs, I decide to remove and open the ecu.
    There was evident signals of water filtrations inside, and searching the reason I discover the A/C evaporator box broken in a corner.
    Depends the inclination of the car, the water goes directly to ecu plug and then, to inside of it by capilarity.
    It was a nice work too...

      Ow! One more thing...
      When manipulate Airbags, always keep it with the face up.
      If detonate as you put in the floor, could be very dangerous if you're near.
      Also, and I imagine that you know, its necessary to discharge your own static electricity when manipulate the pyrotechnic elements or his plugs, touching a metallic part of the body...

    Good video , very helpful , got one of these in workshop today same issue 00588 code and description changed after unplugging and reconnecting , turned out to be the contacts inside the multiplug on the other end of where this one had problems (big yellow plug).. turned out to be easy fix as a small screwdriver can reach the plug tangs and a little tweak and it solved it .

    I've tested the clockspring on Ibiza 6l with multimeter because of resistance too high error code and measuring the resistance between the 2 right most pins gives a 0,2 ohm valaue (short). I assume that is not a way it should behave.
    Also tried measuring the resistance between ends of a t45(?) plug and 2 right most pins on 8 pin plug like you did, and there is no continuity.
    I assume the clock spring is messed up internally and has a short, and ECU sees it as an open circuit from its side?
    Tnx in advanced.

      Yes, there is a possibility...
      If you ever want to do it, plug some wires in, and do it from a distance...

    Genius !!! Everything you know is incredible... You didn't give up and that's why you found the fault... I congratulate you... I'm beginning to dare to get my hands on mechanics/electricity and I've already done many things (only my car, LOL). Let me ask you a question. I hope you can help me because it drives me crazy lol... I have a VW Passat 2004 2.8 V6. On Saturday I went to start it and by mistake I gave the key less time and it didn't start (nothing serious, it's something that can happen to anyone). I removed the ignition, and turned it on again and it started perfectly but it began to indicate the failure of the airbag on my side (in my case it says that it is due to high resistance). Until that moment it had never failed. What do you think I can do? Thank you very much and I hope you can help me. Hug from Argentina.

    • @fernandocalabro86
      @fernandocalabro86 Před rokem +1

      @@LMAutoRepairs I found the code, lol... It's this: "00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95): Resistance too High" The strange thing (as I mentioned in the first message) is that the fault started at the exact moment I turned on wrong the vehicle (until that moment had no error). I tried to erase the error with a Vagcom (cheap, tricky, lol). The fault went away, but then when I started the vehicle it started up again. I don't know if maybe with that tricky Vagcom the error wasn't completely erased and that's why it reappeared, or if having started the vehicle wrong really caused a break. What do you think?

    One more scenario: what if clock spring has an open in certain position, you did not show full left to full right, and with wiring bypass test, you theoretically reverse connected the wiring, the plug does not go only one way in the airbag for nothing. Is there a diode inside, for reverse power protection?
