The flagpole kill always stuck with me. Such a hilarious scene.
That's what I came here to say. I love the flagpole scene. Any chance I can work it into conversation, I'll mimic Angela's sing-songy "Strike Three!"
The uncut version of the flagpole scene is so good, surprisingly gory.
According to a documentary, the actor who played Riff was 180 degrees from the character and struggled with his portrayal. Also kills like the lawnmower and Bobby's arm-pull were cut down to appease censors. That's why there was no blood. We need a director's cut.
There's an uncut VHS workprint on the scream factory Blu ray. Some pretty decent gore was shot, but the censors destroyed it. Still a bad movie, but I kinda like it

I like part 3 but that’s so weird I thought direct to video movies the MMPA doesn’t get involved like that?
It's funny-I saw it around 93 at a kids birthday party, his parents let him rent whatever movies he wanted and that was one of them. I remember blood, and a lot of it, like a bloody neck stump after the lawnmower, tons of blood on the arm rip, a shot of the blown open face after the firecracker in the nose, a completely crushed skull in the flagpole scene and somebody getting their face melted via hot oil she threw in their face in like the camp kitchen near the end of the movie. Are you sure the VHS rental wasn't the bloody version?

I genuinely love all 3 films. 2 and 3 are hilarious and I think they were meant to be that way.

I’ll admit this one isn’t as good as the second film but I still have a fun time with it , the comedy is great..I love Pam Springsteen’s take on the character…..also that 70s/80s Blackpoitation stereotype voice was spot on Cody 😂😂👏🏽
The only thing I remember about this movie is the opening truck kill, oh and I watched it less than a year ago.

Because it was filmed back-to-back with Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) over a six week period, the same set was used for both films: a YMCA youth camp in Georgia.
Most of the characters in the film are named after characters from West Side Story (1961), The Brady Bunch (1969) and The Munsters (1964).
The hockey mask used in Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) is seen in the fishing scene. As it is pulled out of the water, another camper remarks that the date is "Saturday the 14th."
Filmed back to back with Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988).
The girls' cabin is the same one used in the previous film, simply redressed.
The license numbers on the truck correspond with the house numbers in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).
Angela wears the belt from her Camp Rolling Hills counselor uniform from Sleepaway Camp II in this film.
The film's subtitle, "Teenage Wasteland", comes from one of the director's favorite songs, The Who's "Baba O'Reilly".

The script originally contained more elaborate deaths for the characters, which had to be changed for budget reasons. Herman was to have a flaming poker shoved into his crotch, with Angela proclaiming it "A wienie roast!" Also, Tawny and her entire news team were supposed to die in a fiery explosion after Angela cut the brake lines to their van.
When the film was initially given an X-rating by the MPAA due to the gore and violence. Michael A. Sullivan said in an interview, "We ran into a problem with the Moral Police American Asswipes on SC3. They got a fly up their nose about the Cindy death scene and also the way Lilly, one of the camp counselors, died. Those folks have no sense of humor or adventure." An MPAA representative called Simpson to tell him that the woman who screened the film became physically ill after she watched Lilly's lawnmower death scene.

One of the many elements cut due budget restrictions was Marcia's dog. Initially, Marcia brought her pet dog with her to camp. It was the dog that escapes the cabin at the end, not Marcia, and mauls Angela. Later while in the police car, when Marcia admits to Tony she has a boyfriend back home, but he "can come and visit." Originally his conciliation was that he could "keep the dog."
The reporter says there were 19 deaths from the last movie. There were 18 without Molly, which means Molly did die at the end

Idk I found the film quite amusing I actually prefer 2&3 to part 1. Pamela's quirkiness made her a much more interesting killer than the silent Felicia Rose in part 1. Part 3 while not perfect is one of those films that I just shut my brain off and just enjoy it for what it is. By the way great channel.

From what I remember from the background information that I got from Dead Meat's Kill Count on this film, is that the censor's crapped all over this movie removing almost all the blood and most of the gore.That's why all the kills are either off screen, or the camera cuts away from it.
My favorite scene is when Angela Baker killed that camp 🏕 counselor with a lawnmower. 😀👍⛺

I love sleepaway camp 3. I think the kills are creative and hilarious. The opening kill made me laugh so hard it was great and completely unexpected. I can understand that it’s not for everyone. I will say however I do remember a majority of the kills being for being “bad campers” because everyone was either rude to her or did something to deserve it in her eyes. Like the she kills the girl for being racist and then kills the same guy she was theoretically standing up for because he didn’t help out and pulled a gun on her. The guy that wanted to be in politics tried to force himself on her otherwise he would have probably not been killed. The wife owner was lazy, the husband owner was having sex with a camper and so on

The flagpole kill was one that stuck in my head.
I always liked this one. Not as much as the 2nd but I liked it. She is still dispersing of what she considers morally corrupt. I will say there are deleted scenes and some deaths were supposed to be bloodier. It got F13 Pt7'd. The lawnmower kill was supposed to have chunks and the flagpole kill and arm pull kill were supposed to be more graphic. They are online somewhere I think.
This one is gonna look Oscar worthy after you see the fourth lol
One scene I wish they never edited was the lawnmower head kill. So much potential to save an otherwise bland movie.

Part 3 was always my favorite of the series because it was the most hilarious. I think the Sleepaway Camp films work better as comedies than serious horror. Not saying this movie doesn’t have its problems but i feel it’s the most entertaining out of the three.

There are 5 movies in this franchise. The fifth movie is called Sleepaway Camp IV the Survivor. It came out in 2012 and ignores. Return to Sleepaway Camp. Also there is a sequel to Return called Sleepaway Camp Reunion but the film has never been released.
I just learned something. I had no idea that there was a SC movie made after Return to Sleepaway Camp.

Didn’t really care for Sleepaway Camp when I first saw it, so I never checked out any of the sequels till you started these reviews. And man am I glad I did lol.
I might’ve liked this I more than the second, and I liked the second quite a bit. Loved Angela in this and liked seeing her progression from being an optimistic goody two shoes type in the second film to a more cynical almost vigilante here. Yes I know I’m reaching a bit lol maybe I’m just still in shock that I enjoyed these movies this much.
Could be due to the fact I agree with you on 90-95% of your opinions, or it could be because you have such a chill and laidback persona, but time spent watching your stuff is always time enjoyed. Keep it up, homie.
Also, it troubles me to no end I find Pam Springsteen kinda frisky/hot.
If you’re ever wondering why an 80s horror movie lacks a lot of blood, it is usually because of the MPAA. They forced the film to cut out a lot of the gorier stuff.

I watched the Dead Meat Kill Count episode on Sleepaway Camp 3 and knew I didn't have the heart (or lack of sobriety) to watch the movie.
Off topic question for you Cody: Have you ever seen/reviewed the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes movies. I watched the first one last night and was in hysterics. It was like The Naked Gun does horror. Would love to know your thoughts.

Apparently the kills got censored bad by the ratings board. The board was upset about the lawnmower scene and when the girl gets dropped on her head and forced cuts. They extended kills were included in the deleted scenes of the blu-ray release. According to JoBlo: Wtf happened to Sleepaway Camp 3?
The MPAA that year was all over this film unfortunately. I own the now-recalled original DVD box set and it includes the uncut death scenes in low quality. They're pretty gnarly and would have made this movie that much better/worse?!
Yeah it went downhill from this entry forward.

What I love about sleep away camp is how campy it is. It’s so crazy and corny n messy perfect 80s cheese nowhere near as good as 1 or 2 but I can definitely watch it over again
I would take exception to this review, but...no...you're right Cody...no story, no plot, trying to make up for it with the volume of kills...which are pretty underwhelming. But...if you thought this one was bad, hoo boy, get ready for Return to Sleepaway Camp...

Just like Friday the 13th part 5 the mpaa censor it to oblivion but still love both lol
Herman and Lily? The rich kids are named after the Brady Bunch the poor kids named after West Side Story.. Angela has a slight crisis of conscience.. the call back of Shawn's dad.. Michael J. Pollard is a very very well known actor from the classic Bonnie and Clyde... Scrooged .. Dick Tracey among others. Now is the flick great? Nah.. But Springsteen is still a blast in this movie. Also for the time Marcia subverted the "final" good girl trope.. she actually wanted to just bang the Mexican gangbanger, even though Tony seemed sincere in his affection for her. So that was something for that time. And most of them were kinda nasty people, aside from the last 3 which yeah.. Angela is &$#@ing crazy.. Her reasoning, "these three were kinda boring." Cracks me up.
I've never watched and of these movies as the ending of the first one was spoiled for me.
Riff had the 80's detroit vibe for the movie.
I didn't know there was a 2, let alone a 3.
2 and 3 are the best out the series hands down I love the first 3 my top three is
1. Unhappy campers
2. Teenager waste land
3. Sleep away camp

Too bad part III was mutilated by the MPAA. There were at least a couple of decent kills that you can make out in the work-print. - The flag-pole fall and Bobby getting his arms ripped off by Angela with the jeep. I liked part 2 better.
