We usually think of companies like Google and Meta as some of the most secure and advanced platforms on the market. They hire the absolute best talent on the market and pay exorbitant salaries, so this is not surprising. What may be surprising is that a random guy from Lithuania was able to pull a quick one on Google and Meta. And this wasn’t for some small amount like $50k or $100k. Evaldas Rimasauskas was able to steal $23 million from Google and a whopping $98 million from Meta. Also, this wasn’t a one-time thing either. Evaldas was able to outsmart these tech giants for years, and if he didn’t push his luck he very well may have gotten away with it as well. But, eventually, these companies did catch on and they reported the theft to the FBI who were able to track Evaldas down to Lithuania in no time. Evaldas would end up pleading guilty and be sentenced to 5 years of jail and significant amounts of restitution. This video explains the crazy story of Evaldas Rimasauskas and how he was able to steal over a hundred million dollars from the smartest companies in the world.

A lot of people would find it totally worth doing 5 years in jail for $20 million
Yeah hahaha
Im sure there are plenty who would do it just for 1 million
@@rohansampat1995 man i'd do it for 50k
depends which country that jail is in...Some jails are near death experiences
@@lonasontsele8674 But not in Europe
I bet he stoled more than that from other companies but nobody knows about it yet 😂
😂 that would be hilarious, but also terrible
If only he had stopped at $119 million
For real haha
Nah! Let's round that to an even 120😅
Nah, that's nothing. What can you buy these days with 119 mil USD?
@@cdjxwubcyex in this economy? A slice of pizza I suppose
it doesnt matter if its 100mil or 10mil he said they looked at their totals & they were off
I used to work for Exxon in engineering, and I was talking to AP about some vendor expenses. The accountant showed me a fraudulent invoice and they had our Texas address listed with a zip code from Pennsylvania 😂
The address was correct on the mailing address on the envelope but incorrect on the invoice.
Hahaha, couldn’t even do it right
I have no idea how they sent money to that bank account. That's insane, everything else is very believable.
Yeah for real haha, I have no idea how they didn’t have better payment methods in place
Not surprising at all, accounting departments don't vet even large payments. These types of scams are very common in 2023 and successful scammers get away with super low effort phishing like random Gmail addresses and garbage quality invoices.
@@LogicallyAnswered 8:23 you put that he didn't hang on to the money in the same bank but in this video 5 months ago from gamerfrommars czcams.com/video/i-L9U52z7YE/video.html he claimed Google froze the entire 23M in the bank and got it back odd discrepancy ?
Imagine if a dude stole over a billion dollars out of a lot of big tech companies but he actually got away with it
Hahaha
@@LogicallyAnswered That would be a serious humiliating dent.
If we havent heard about it then it probably already happened lol
nearly got away? no extradition to US Prison Camps, AND he probably keeps the money, as they didn't recover it. Dude's a legend, a scholar and a gentleman.
My IT instructor stated this in class one day. " Some of you will become hackers.. I get it, so understand this... Hackers get caught for 2 reasons.. 1). Not covering their tracks. 2). Greed ... Don't be sloppy and greedy.. and only do it 1 major time of years apart." . . . This guy got greedy, sloppy, and did it too often.. Imagine if he just slowed down and didn't get too greedy.
you can make money legally, why can't you consider ethical hacking?
That would probably equate to 1-5 million, but it looks like due to Lithuania laws he will be netting at least $20 million after he gets out of jail. Perhaps knowing he wouldn't get a harsh sentence or have to pay 100% of it back played into why he played his hand the way he did.
@@IIIw2 Exactly 💯.. I and many others agree.. but people are selfish and greedy.. So they go Black Hat
@@ALee-Acting i will have to watch the video again to be honest. i can't give a solid answer to be honest, the company should have been more careful .
@Yuuki Asuna Companies rarely have things in order, and they panic-fix things once they get popped... This goes into end user training and all.. I did a talk on this a while back.
Social engineering can get you through very tight security, you just need to know how to talk and be convincing in many cases, routine, percieved important person, percieved mundane person. I work in IT, people are the weak link, not the system. Not that long ago in company of my friend they had security audit (lucky for them internal), the employees let random people use their workstation for example. They just said, hey iam Tony Vega from IT department and i need to do something on your computer. Others just pluged into their workstations rando USB sticks left in shared areas by IT staff. Dude on reception desk let random people into server room - he didnt had keys but lucky for the auditor he knew cleaning staff might have them since they have universal keys, they were more than happy to help. In short if you wanna hack someone, learn to talk.
Oof, that sounds bad
@@LogicallyAnswered Yeah, in some companies security is more afterthought. The age and computer literacy of the users is not the best as it is in many cases. In his company even the IT staff is overloaded. You can be hidden behind proxy server, you can limit user access, you can log everything, you can have as many backups as many you like, you can have security training for users every half year - you tell people what not to do milion times. They look at you, act like everything clear and next time you see them in restaurant across the road, they leave their laptop with VPN access to domain and servers, token with login certificates to said VPN on table and go on toilet. People are very unaware that we are aware.
True, I have been the weak link before, but fortunately for me, it wasn't real company funds. It was gaming funds in an MMORPG game that I used to play when I was a teenager. I was in a guild and got promoted by its leader to become an heir. This meant that I now had access to the guild's funds that we saved up, and I also had the ability to promote any member to become an heir too. Later, someone anonymous created a fake account and convinced me that he was one of the heirs in our guild. He asked me to add him as a member and promote him. After doing so, he stole all of our funds and disappeared. I felt really sad when I had to admit what I did to the group leader, and I was demoted the same week I was promoted.
@@mizile1486 Dont worry about it that much, we all make mistakes. You got burned, you will probably remember your mistake. Issue are those who think they have right to do anything, know everything best and nobody will tell them how to act or those who think its our job to keep them secure at all time, no personal responsibility.
Dont know if your guild had some training for you, but i suppose no. In that case its also their partial fault. In my job, if i dont tell everybody the risks, explain completely everything, have scheduled training and they do something stupid. Its my responsibility, not theirs - iam there to make sure they know, if i dont tell them, i failed at my job. Sure they did the “bad thing“ but iam there to blame too. Thats why we are usualy not very popular, people see as decieving them or spying on them or being too harsh. Yes, we do all those things if necessary but its not to spy or decieve users, its to protect our infrastructure and we have most vectors covered, there is one big hole left in it and that is humans, no ill will, just experience.
In my experience many people are rushed into position, they have no clear instructions yet are expected to solve many issues. They are asked to learn everything on the go an improvise. Iam from Central Europe, maybe somewhere else it works better but many companies are now “optimized“ on the bones. Only necessary and core employees are left, that puts lot of stress and pressure on them and they ofc make mistakes. The receptionist dude from my example was also security guard for night shift, fire alarm station and maintenance worker at the same time. You cant expect people to do their best if you flood them with requests and they have no time to think, everything needs to be instant, otherwise boss will be angry and they will be too optimized.
Moral of the story if u want to do a scam just be in limit 20-30million dollars is sufficient to live
I doubt they even noticed that the bank they were sending the money to wasn't in the correct country. When you're trying to work fast you tend to just kinda skim over things and that company was obviously trustworthy enough and invoice convincing enough that they didn't scrutinize it too closely
Wow! 120Ms...?? Dang that's alot.
Yep, quite a heist
People can be manipulated very easily especially lower in the chain!
actually i would argue its those in the middle. The execs are not doing any of this work so they are safe, the normal employees have this AS their job so they are doing it but its the middle that has a bunch of stuff on their plate where this is small and trivial
Feel bad for who ? Especially Facebook? No way. I would still do the same to meta if i had skills.
😂 savage
meta sells peoples data to other companies. this is technically stealing too as people don't always consent to dispatching their data to some unknown companies.
I just came home can’t wait to watch this!
Hope you enjoy man!
I love how prolific you are.
CZcams rarely recommends your videos but man you never disappoint
I’ve been binge watching so I get 5 of his videos in my top 10 😂.

5:54 i worked at Quanta warehouse a few years ago lol i worked in shipping and receiving.
with a group of 3-4 ppl, we loaded big ass servers into wooden crates, labeled them and placed them in trucks for shipment. it sucked.
you earned your sub now! great video!
Great topic, was not aware of this.
Thanks Balpreet!
Logically.. your voice hooks everybody
You’re too kind haha
These companies focused a lot of their resources on A.I., futuristic hi-tech staff. All that advance tech at their disposal. Yet they still fell for a scam, by a determined meat bag.
Just like the bank robbers who hide some of the money after they steal it, he's set for life once he gets out.
i wonder if someone did this to Apple how much could be stolen,
Google be like: cunningly. 5 years in prison and 20 million for this man.
Scammers (big tech company stealing our privacy) got scammed by this man
big companies need internal auditor and/or external auditors and more extra layer of finance department before sending money to vendors.
Google and Facebook are almost too big to fail when they can collectively lose $120 million and it doesn’t even feel like a drop in their financial bucket. They are two scary monopolies.
How does a random Lithuanian guy's bank account not raise red flags immediately after multimillion dollar deposits?
For real
These are the same companies that want to connect the internet to your body. Yup, Good luck with that
Smallest violin
Is not he just a dedicated scapegoat? I think his bosses got what they wanted at no cost. And presenting his catch as a victory is only a PR move.
Five years in prison for $50 million actually doesn't sound too shabby.
It's no surprise that tech companies fall for phishing emails. I know a few companies that get regular phishing emails to train their employees, if they click on it then the whole team has to do training about it. Let's just say that many companies click on the email.
Wouldn't the authorities be watching his every move from now on? The second he tries to access the remaining stolen funds, they will be there to recoup them and put his ass back in jail.
He just has to wait a couple years. The idea they stick to these investigations is just for tvs and movies
I wish I could do the same, to the same evil companies
Almost a modern-day Robin Hood
7:55 haha hilarious!
😂
Only 5 years? For 5 years I'd do all of this, twice.

lithuania number one 🇱🇹🙏🎉
How did Google & Facebook find out it was Evaldes?
Jho Low's still at large. $1 billion plus.
ppffft $120 million is like 120 cents for both google and meta
Wait, it takes these companies how long to make that kind of money?!
Yes
Maybe someone inside Google and Facebook helped him to do this scam
Maybe
For all those thinking that this only hurts some company,if you follow the complete money trail you will find this costs everyone in the end.👎😲👎
2:53 our man evaldas 😂😂😂😂😂
😂
5:55 "Quanta Computer... like me, most of you have probably never heard of this company"
the Taiwanese in me feels sad
Almost every companies been scammed like this but they keep it quiet bc it's embarrassing 😂
Both my previous fortune 500 companies were victims and never said anything outside of HR 🤣
There goes my heeeeerrrooo
If I just got a few millions I would be happy and walk away, if he did that he would have probably gotten away with it but he got very greedy.
I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for these pesky little auditors
- Evaldes
He must have been a 'mule'....
5 years for $120 million seems like an okay deal. Get in shape, enjoy access to free healthcare, work on studying, make plans for my luxurious retirement.
He's literally me
He got greedy and that was his downfall should have taken a little at a time 😏
hi bro. new video already?
Yes sir
i just love when i come and comment and that youtuber would reply.

@logically answered pay attention to red frame errors that happen because of compiling. 7:07 (there are others)
the dude literally got to keep millions of dollars.. PEOPLE CRIME DOES PAY !!
White collar crime is not really a punishable offence plus you get to keep the money .
Why wouldn't you do it ??
@Logicaly answered - you missed several very important arguments in your video (that migh have not been translated from Lithuanian) like he was noob on computer skills and his ‘new friends from Russia’. I really doubt he did pull it off - he was the escape goat, not hacker mastermind.. 😮
Damn he should’ve disappeared!! Thanks for the video brother!!!
