Lucky enough to go and watch the filming of Top Gear at Dunsfold - one of these was the record breaking lap of the last series (before the Koensnnzzzeeeggg!)
Yep - filmed at Dunsfold Aerodrome, where they film Top Gear. That 747 in the background is now used for films, and was in the Bond Film, Casino Royal.
just to clarify that there is more then one stig, they actually take any driver that they can get a hold of to do the laps for them so it rotates around about 5 different drivers
oh yes, and the Zonda did sound amazing - closest to an F1 car on the road (in noise terms) apart from perhaps the V10 of the Porsche GT. The record lap was the one where he bounces over the kerb slightly - then he broke the car!
....love 'em or hate 'em the 3 presenters were excellent - very funny off camera and most bits done in one take - very proffesional. I'll be posting other pictures from the day in a week or so on our website cheers angus
Hi all - Stig on this day was Ben Collins - apparently there are a 'few'! Very lucky in that we know one of the Dunsfold Park managers so got to watch - then went and watched the filming of the show itself (waiting list of 165,000 apparently, so pretty lucky!) - it was the one with the Millau Bridge, Ford GT, Ferrari 430 and Zonda - all of which were in the studio....
Ferrari Enzo 1.19, Zonda F 1.18.4. Ferrari Paddle gearbox (do you want everyone being able to drive your car) vs. Manual gearbox (helped a Mercedes Owner in Detroit when a carjacker rip him out of his car, got in, five seconds later got out and ran away because he could not drive a manual. Supported by Tiff Needell, Jason Plato, Jeremy Clarkson, Vicky Butler Henderson and Richard Hammond.
It's funny how Zonda seems to be big and bulky when you watch it filmed with tv camera and very well proportioned and quite small when filmed with normal camcoder.
And also don´t forget the "rule" that states that those cars need to go through a sleeping policeman and over speedbumps ;) I also would like do see a Caterham CSR320 vs a Radical on the test track
Awesome time from the Ultima - sadly not tested by Top Gear themselves - in a similar way, they won't test a quick Caterham....we suspect that the big names don't want their hyper(expensive) cars beaten by - what they would term as - 'kit' cars, and Top Gear want the big names to show up and bring their mega-machines....
Case in Point, Eddie Griffin wrecks a Ferrari Enzo. The car is paddle operated, no clutch work, movement of the hand and arm not needed to make a good gearchange. Eddie says, I can drive that. Wrong. Manual cars require skills to shift, work the clutch, and respect. Four Enzo's have been wrecked, because the owners can't drive them.
Sounds amazing!..

the zonda is a cool car
y r they removing top gear shows there hard to find now
What a GROWL
try searching for Ultima GTR 720. It just beat this by over 5 seconds!! (and yes it was totally road-spec and was even driven to the circuit!)

As much as I love the Veyron, I just think it's too heavy. The Koenigsegg CCX is far lighter with a much better power to weight ratio.
Italian made, but a mercedes amg v12
Ferrari > Pagani ... But the Zonda > then most ferraris
Zond... Please give me a Koenigsegg CCX instead...

OMG, eat your heart out Ferrari.
