He possibly wouldn’t tell his grandkids many stories about the military unless they were older & asked him about specifics. Maybe a random funny social story here & there.
My grandpa was an artillery Master Sergeant/First Sergeant in Korea. He killed a lot of men, & lost a lot of his own.
He turned down promotion to Command Sergeant Major because he just wanted to go home & live quietly/peacefully.
He never spoke of it. He hid it well, but sadness never left him.
Not saying that Don is anything like my grandpa.
Just saying that he likely wouldn’t want to share anything but positive stories, & perhaps some life lessons with his grandkids while they’re young.
But Don’s son is also a SEAL, so who knows.
Either way, his grandkids will have a legendary grandpa!

Anyways, my father was a hard hitting MF, Army veteran & Police Officer in LA for 30+ years. He just had so much life experience and adventure. I was always glued to his stories. The way you tell your memories, your voice , etc. Just reminds me of my Dad… They don’t make them like my Dad or you Mr.Shipley anymore. Thank you sir for your service and what you do now. @@paramounttechnicalconsulti5219 German and the scandinavian langauges (among some others such as dutch and english) are all germanic langauges and are closely related and all use the word "jäger" of some variation to mean hunter. As mentioned english is also a germanic langauge, but a bit less so however, because english also take more influences from latin based langauges compared to rest of the germanic langauges, but "hunter" actually also have a germanic root.
As others have mentioned jäger means hunter and has been the word for normal civilian hunters before the inception of military jäger units. All of those langauges spell the word a bit differently, however, but still very similiarly.
Someone mentioned finnish jägers replying to you, the finns also have jäger units but in this case the word was directly copied from german, as Germany trained the finnish "Jäger Movement" before the finnish civil war. But it's also very probably they might have used the word before that due to having being occupied by the swedes for a time before russia came in and occupied them. Still, no matter where they got the word from, "jääkäri" doesn't have a root from within the finnish langauge (which is of the finno-ugric langauge family), but rather a loanword from a germanic langauge of some type.
