Granadillo is informally considered a type of rosewood. Sonically, it’s comparable to Indian rosewood, but it’s harder and denser, yielding an additional bell-like ring. The wood traditionally has been used for marimba bars because of its clear, chimey tone. Classical guitar makers later borrowed it and have been using it for at least 50 years. Pairing granadillo with a Sitka spruce top will yield clear, ringing, long-sustaining notes. It tends to be very limited in availability.
Goes Well With: A variety of body shapes and playing styles. If you like clear, bell-like tone and the sound of a rosewood guitar, granadillo will probably appeal to you.
This is classic BS propaganda. The idiot libtards have banned Rosewood for any use, and as per CITES, you cannot own a rosewood anything, including guitar fretboards. The ban was mainly due to Chinese using up all the rosewood for furniture. Now, if you want to take your rosewood neck guitar into another country that signed onto CITES, you have to get special "import" papers becasue you are carrying a prohibited item. Look it up on the internet. So now becasue of the Rosewood ban, guitar makers are scrambling to convince people that Granadillo is as good or better. All test done by independent players have come out the same - Granadillo is shit compared to Rosewood. Rosewood guitars will soon become very expensive and rare - it new law came in on January 2, 2017.
Andertons should start a podcast! Just do some improve jamming, talk gear or whatever. I'd tune in every week. Wouldn't mind even just an hour straight of these guys playing whatever comes to mind.

Excellent, the J100 does it for me too - I have a Gibson Songwriter and that is superb...these videos are so brilliant.
It ain't over till it's over! Haha you guys had me singing at the end (very embarrassing). As for feedback, it would be cool if you swapped guitars at some point, just to give a sense of how playing style might be affecting the tone. Cheers guys!

Nice demo guys, but I think more people are moving to the smaller bodied guitars lately. I'd like to see some 00 or 000 or even some parlor size guitars. I can't imagine buying one of those jumbo sizes.

I am personally a finger-picker through and through, and the no 1 thing I am trying to make out from acoustic videos is how the guitar fairs when finger picked / though I am certain a few chords should be strummed for the more typical user. Another thing I am looking at is the neck width, in finger picking I like the strings to be a bit further apart.
Really enjoyed that video, great playing too. Would be nice to see more comparisons, maybe talking a bit about the difference different woods and bracing makes? A video on picks would be cool too. And as someone said below, would be nice to see you swap guitars as you both have different styles of playing. Thanks for making these videos for us, very enjoyable!
That's a really good sounding pickup system (relatively). The sound doesn't totally collapse. I'm assuming it's the built in "mic" system adding to the under bridge pickup. Definite improvement.
I would like to see (a) swapping guitars mid-review (b) different tone-wood comparisons with opinions and information about their effect on the sound (c) price comparisons across different manufacturers (d) more acoustic stuff!

The playing in these videos is just so damn tasteful! We all love a bit of Chappers shred en Lee pentatonics but you guys just blow me away every time :) I'll probably never be able to afford half of the things you demo but damnit, it sounds awesome!
For your next Acoustic Paradiso, would you possibly consider using some other mics as well? I like the NT5, and it gets a lot of that great strumming sharpness that acoustic guitars are known for in many recordings, but also having a large diaphragm condenser and/or a good ribbon mic can help get some of the low-end warmth, especially when the acoustic is a larger-body dreadnought or jumbo. Also, in acoustic sets its often nicer to put more of the low-end of the acoustics, especially if there's not Cajon/Bass/Upright/etc. When I'm mixing acoustics in a full band, I'll usually aim for an acoustic sound that rolls off somewhere around 85-100hz. In acoustic sets, to compensate for less in the mix to fill, I will go all the way down to 75-50 if necessary. Again, this helps from my experience to help fill out a mix where there's just acoustic or acoustic/vocals. Also again, the NT5 sounds great. I love using small diaphragms for acoustics. Having another mic with more low-end response to be used in conjunction with the NT5 would be more representative of the acoustic in real life, and how it sounds in a room. I know this looks and probably reads like a lot, and maybe even a harsh criticism, but I have no intention of saying this video was badly done. The mic placement for the NT5 was very good, and the playing was great as usual. Good luck to your videos, and I look forward to seeing more of the Electric and Acoustic Paradiso in the future!
Enjoying all the demo's lads, prefer you playing to a tapper specialist. As you asked for suggestions: 1. compare body sizes within one manufacturer, 2. compare woods of same body size within manufacturer, 3. same body size and wood but different manufacturer, 4. expensive vs. affordable, 5. compare different guitars within the context of a track, 6. best ways to improve an old affordable guitar (e.g. my old '96 sigma - new electronics, upgrade nut and saddle, etc.)
I went shopping for a SJ200 and came home with a SJ100 which has a two piece back of flamed maple as the sides have, also it has crown inlays and a moustache bridge. The neck is maple and is 3 piece. The 200 was an amazing sound but the guy in the shop said I should compare, I liked the 100 better although little difference. I saved myself £600. I've had it since 2003 and it sounds better every year.
I've played an SJ-200 at my local guitar center, and it sounds great. Wish I had the money to buy it. How much sustain does it give out? Because from what I hear, maple bodied guitars don't have a big amount of sustain.
Put a guitar tuner on that will tell how long the sustain is

The J-200 sounds a little too tinny. I prefer the J-100 and I even think it looks better, although I like the bounded fretboard and headstock on the J-200 :)
+Igor Sekulic One reason the J-200 sounds tinny is because the pickup is blended in more strongly with the undersaddle. If you listen to the segments that are microphone-only, it's not tinny at all. I agree with you though, when the pickup is active, sounds really really tinny. I wish they'd just left the pickups out entirely or just had a short pickup segment at the end.
+Jesse Watson the maple back and sides definitely have to do with it too. I like the walnut better. I'm really not even a fan of Gibson acoustics at all but that J-100 surprised me.
Often Mick played closer to the bridge which changed the tone to the "tinny" sound
I agree with @Igor...the J200 sounds a little tinny and plastic. Maybe that's from over mic'n the guitar. J100 sounds warmer.
well it's the back and side woods, walnut gives a dark sound, while maple gives a bright sound.
Ed R he was playing very close to the bridge. Get over the soundhole for the big old sound.
I vote yes for strummy picky, and no for tappy slappy. Also, maybe Acoustic Paradiso needs more of a rural wardrobe sensibility ;)

The Gibson J200 is an amazing guitar with a great overall tone response. However, the tone in the footage could have been blended/adjusted better. Perhaps they could have just used the mics (?). Also strumming near the bridge (11.43) will give you a higher treble tone as opposed to near the sound hole.
Martin Dreads - Centenary year, they reckon (they used to say 1931, but who's counting?) How about a round up? X series, Road, D15, 18, 28..?
In terms of materials used and design, a J-100 is identical to a J-200 Studio, isn't it. In fact a J-200 Studio is a renamed J-100 which is no longer marketed as such.

You guys do great comparison, but how about comparing some Guild guitars. Like a Guild F50 vs Gibson J200, or a Guild D55 vs Martin D41 etc. Guild is a great guitar and often underrated. Lets give Guild some love. Guild D40? lovely guitar.

J100 sound more clean, j200 wet sound, I vote for j100. Also design is more minimalistic. I like it. You guys are great. I love picture , sound, how you're playing. You have a nice energy. 18min run so fast with you!
It could be interesting to see some comparisons between guitars that are similar in size and appearance, but at totally different price points, to see if it is worth splashing the extra cash on a higher priced instrument - e.g. Comparing a £200 guitar to a £2000 guitar. I think the current format is fine, but due to your different playing styles, perhaps swap guitars at some point.
Pete always seems to get a beautifully smooth sound when strumming any acoustic.
As for as the playing goes... a bit more fingerstyle guitar and slide playing would be lovely, but that's just my personal taste :P As it has been mentioned by so many others - you are doing a great job, keep at it! :)

Again, the guy on the left strums "behind the sound-hole," but the other guy strums "over the back end of the sound-hole." It makes a big difference in sound, treble to bass. Wahi' Valleys

I'm starting to think walnut isn't a tonewood. No matter the body size, it imparts this yokey color in the mids. Right where you want a scoop there's a bump.

Granadillo, the double ll is pronounced as a y as in Spanish. Granadillo is a south american tone wood. A nice alternative to Cocobolo. I have a 2013 Taylor 412 Spring ltd in Granadillo. Very bell like tone.

my only criticism is that Mick....don't play so close to the bridge for a tone comparison unless that is what you are specifically doing....when checking out the picks the tone didn't change between the picks because you played way too close to the bridge. While playing (jamming) you changed positions for strumming for a tone variation and to show what that difference can be....that's great.....but not when doing pick comparisons.
I prefer the walnut, go in the store and make a blind fold with a friend with "acoustic" ears, you will be surprised wich sounds very good - I test a range of Gibson acoustic -from the "normal" to the expensive ones. So if you blindfold, you're ears "look" at the sound not the outfit - so less is more ;-) The walnut is a fine combination with tone woods ! So less bling and more sound! But, choose the right strings!
