I like you, Ben!
Welcome Ben!
I like the new guy. he's not Pete.....there's only one Pete. But this guy seems genuine and not too up himself like some others. Good choice
he's got a beard though
Is Pete leaving the show?
Thanks Pete, I'm really pleased to be here. :-)
ye theres only one Pete ...oh wait you are also Pete.... anyway Ben seems suited for this
@@RapttorX True , I am Pete also, though not quite as good guitarist as the "other" one
They all sound like acoustic guitar heaven to me.
Intro jam definitely felt like a return to the origins of 12 Bar Blues like Robert Johnson or Lightnin Hopkins, and that got me listening alright. Cheers
I feel like the last line of the video should have been something like:
"So Ben, how do you feel about blindfolds?"
"What?"
*Hard cut*
I cannot wait for a Ben-Pete Jam...
Oh, it's going to happen! YEAH!!!!!
Captain, thanks for Ben. Ben,.... smokin' awesome! I received my J45 at age 9 and played no other until this year, and am now 66 years old. It has been kept current with electrification, beautifully hidden, and maintained by the best luthier's hand in the state of Minnesota. It is a blessing to see my style played by young and more capable hands. "The Gibson", as my friends call her has been retired to studio work only. That voice has bloomed over the 50+ years and is insanely beautiful.
Two sets of NOS frets have been worn through and replaced and 3 months in the shop to make her pristine again last summer. Can't wait to hear you do more. Do anything! But just please never stop. I didn't and am so so glad. I am stealing a couple of your licks, just too tasty to let go. Good on ya!
Thanks Sam! And wow - a J45 at age 9! Don't let my kids know! ;-) Sounds like it's a reallly great instrument too.
I love the J45s and have the Studio which I also love. I’m only 10 minutes in but I really like Bens knowledge and playing.
Ben's a great choice for this job. Great player, natural presenter, it's all good!!
Very impressed with Ben.
A natural player AND presenter. Looking forward to seeing more. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That vintage sunburst on the standard is just so beautiful!!!
No substitute for the standard it’s my fav acoustic I’ve ever played.
Really looking forward to hearing more of Ben’s Beautiful playing. Delighted that there will be a weekly acoustic thing.
Welcome to Ben ... hes bought a great vibe to the table and plays shit hot!
Thanks Peter!
Yes he does!!!
Warm welcome to Ben, a nice addition to the family. Glad to hear a day dedicated to acoustic guitars. It really is a song writer's go-to. Ben is a wonderful player and I will be looking forward to his presentations.😎👍🏾🎶🔥🎶
Theirs just a little something to a stringed instrument acoustically, even an unplugged electric guitar has it. I don't know what it is but I like it.
Great playing Ben.looking forward to the new acoustic show!
New guy is super cool and a great player. And I had to pause this to go get one of those stands for my J45;-)
Welcome aboard Ben, great playing! Looking forward to more of these for sure!
Love this guy!!
Just purchased the standard. I compared it with a martin d-18. I'm a martin guy. I have a d-35 and hd-28 but the j-45 brought a smile to my face. The action was great and it's a beautiful guitar. Most martins needs the action lowered. So I didn't have the extra cost of a set up I actually played it in church the next day. I did change the strings to elixir 12s which gave it an even better tone. Not knocking the d-18 but give the j-45 a try if you're looking for a mahogany guitar.
I have a J45, and today I bought elixir 12. I was using 11. How do you compare the volume in the J45 with you HD-28?
I've never enjoyed playing an acoustic but I'm excited about this series. Thank you Lee for expanding your excellent channel. I feel an acoustic purchase coming on at some point!
This guy's great!! I'll be tuning in every week.
BEN'S SKILLS THOUGH!!!!!!!!
Great review . I’ve seen Ben live playing in his duo . Really good playing and good info . Well done looking forward to the next one
Finally, Acoustic Paradiso hits its mark. Well done Ben, what a great start. Let’s have a Captain meets before too long. I shall look forward to these even more now.
Super excited for this series!!!!!!
Great episode! Ben did a great job. I think most of us were waiting to hear him play so we could see if he’s had the chops - and he delivered. I’m very happy to hear you be doing a weekly episode on acoustics.
I’d love to have you guys cover the SJ-200, D-28 Modern Deluxe, and Taylor 717 GP.
I’d also enjoy learning more about different body shapes and tones and how they correlate to styles of music. Basically, the stuff someone should know when shopping for a higher-end acoustic.
Ben is one half of amazing acoustic duo Smith & Brewer. Both fantastic guitarists who love to duel in the middle of their acoustic americana infused stuff. If you like Ben’s playing here, you ain’t seen nothing yet, check out their original stuff!
YESSS!!! Can't wait to see more comparisons and stuff!
Every Monday from now on...
Hallelujah! Welcome Ben. What a marvelous picker!
sounds amazing welcome Ben.
Amazing player with a great guitar! Thank you Captain!
Ben is my son’s guitar teacher, great guy !
Great player, great review, and great guitar! And now I have something to look forward to on mondays. 10/10
Great work Ben. Awesome playing- gonna enjoy the return of acoustic paradiso.
New presenter Ben is great. very knowledgable and awesome player. Well done. I got a J45 a few months ago and I love it! Enjoyed the discussion.
about time! and best video of sound comparisons yet. I will certainly stay tuned for more.
Incredible player. Awesome!
Ben seems cool
I've wanted a J-45 for ages now, real happy to see this video
The Captains face when Ben plays is like... "man, why cant I play like that?" Its the same thing I ask myself! very nice playing Ben. Im going to practice with this...thank you
When you get all those electric shred guys who think they're God's, but you know they're just one-trick ponies who can't write a decent tune or play anything useful, especially alongside other players.
@@Metal-Possum It's okay you can say his name, Rob chapman lol jk
@@mrbouncelol He knows how to be an equal and contributing member of a band. though, something I wish all guitarists were capable of.
@@Metal-Possum Yeah the way I see it the hardest part of making music is people skills. Sometimes you just don't get along haha. All these stereotypes about guitarist or drummer or vocalist... I think a wanker is a wanker
New guy is good, checks a lot of boxes. Good player, knowledgeable, beard. Yea he will do nicely.
I couldn't grow a proper beard until I hit my 30's. I think it knew I wasn't ready for that kind of responsibility...
Hello from NB, Canada. FINALLY! Ben is great, can't wait for vids comparing different brands and prices
Happy Birthday Ben!
Welcome Ben! Good luck to you!
his playing is so awesome I love it
5 mins in and I love the vibe. Ben's right at home. Good stuff boys.
Thanks Vince!
already lovin the acoustic show. nice playin Ben!
Excellent demo, Amazing guitar playing which definitely bring out different characters for each model, thank you so much for making this enjoyable video.
I am doing research for buying my first high quality guitar; (of course as an older singer/songwriter type) I started with Martin, went to Taylor, and then went to Gibson. I was instantly surprised by Gibson. I didn't know Gibson. Your video helped me settle on the J-45 Standard. Thank you very much for such fine quality reviewing and demonstrating.
Jerome Miles Are you still happy with it three months later? I’m also looking in this for the same reason!
I was looking for information on Gibson J-45s and the differences between the models, and this video answered and demonstrated everything I needed to know while also being enjoyable - like I was just hanging out with some experts. Thanks!
Great playing Ben.looking forward to the new acoustic show! I really dig the sound of the walnut in the studio model.it has a different attack than the standard. The deluxe looks great. I think they all look and sound fantastic!
Nice i missed these acoustic sessions. Thanks Lee.👍
Well done Ben, good luck with your new job.
Welcome Ben! Great episode!
Welcome Ben, what a first show J-45 and blues riffidge lol sounds awesome and cant wait until the next one ! It would be the delux as looking at it is a much fun as playing.
What a great addition. Fit right in who knew this was the first video. Such clean playing as well.
Welcome Ben. Outstanding playing.
Thanks Trevor.
Thanks for providing a proper demo for the J-45.
Great Review guys Thanks
Ben's laugh when after he shreds is awesome lol
I'm in love with the deluxe.
Great player. Thanks folks!
Well done, Sir
Great video. I love my J-45. And welcome to Ben what a great player!
Welcome to the team buddy! I'm looking forward to hearing more of your playing and knowledge soon. Great stuff!
Thanks Adam!
Awesome - as an acoustic guy I’m delighted to see this, thank you
When you hear a guitar played like that.. It just makes you wanna buy one, learn and play.. So inspiring. awesome. Yes more acoustic sessions please.. and for me the Std J45 came out as an all rounder and nice new guy too.. so all poz ere
Do it!
The new guy is a great player! Looking forward to seeing more of his videos :) and the standard J45 is the best of them all!
Learning allot. Love the new series idea.
Beautiful sounding
I'm 31 seconds in: man, the guy can play..
Welcome Ben. Good stuff here, I like the Standard and the Deluxe, owning both would be awesome!
Bravo on the Ragtime picking! All the playing was a real treat! Thanks for sharing! .......and the Deluxe model has a great sound! Fantastic video!
Beautiful playing!
Thanks Nick. :-)
A great video to relaunch this strand of Anderton's videos! I like Ben as a presenter, too!
Great guitar, great playing! Makes you want to play accoustic, so it's working!
Really dig Bens playin’ n style as well. Welcome aboard Ben 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks Luke!
Yes...finally some acoustics!
Yay Ben! Nice first vid! I dont play acoustics but am sure gonna watch from now on! Interesting to hear a true acoustic player talk about and play! 👌🏻
Welcome, Ben! Exquisite playing...I'm as jealous as the Captain! In a good way, of course.
Very well done Captain
Welcome Ben
What a great opening tone! Perfect guitar for those licks.
Welcome to the channel Ben
Thanks! Hapyy to be here. :-)
This is my account, I posted that last one from my band one by mistake! Thanks though!
@@bensmithguitar Oh I see "accidently" link me to your band page? I respect the hustle Ben
Great to see you here Ben. I bought a Rick Turner Model 1 on the strength of your pretty awesome demo at the North American guitar. I love that guitar, and your playing. This is a good Anderton’s development 👍🏻
Great choice with the new guy, great playing, well happy that the acoustic stuff is back 👍😁✌🎵
Hi Ben, welcome
Great video! I like all of them best.
Great addition Lee. Ben is a great player. I think the Standard J-45 has the original bass tone, but I love the tone of rosewood acoustic guitars.
Acoustic Paradiso goes weekly, yeah! Great news, Lee, thank you! Maybe you could get Mick to sit in with Ben once in a while...
Ben is da man great playing seems like a nice fella.
Looking forward to more👍
Nice recruit, welcome Ben !
The nicest demo of the 2019 Gibson Acoustic range till today. Bravo :-)
Thanks!
😊
Yeeeeeaaaaaaaah finally new Acoustic Paradiso episodes!! Ben, you 're great man - awesome playing! Maybe you can do (some general and some more detailed) videos on pickups for acoustic guitars!? There's so much choice...
Welcome, Ben - great debut, and I look forward to more. I'd love to hear some Collings, Froggy Bottom, National, Takamine. It would be cool to do some shootouts for Dreadnaught, Auditorium, Parlor, Vintage, Electro-Acoustic. Also shootouts for Mahogany, Rosewood, and other bodies. Tone wood is real for acoustics! Also good to have guests on to jam with. Cheers!
The sound of the standard vs. deluxe, though noticeable, has its purposes. For players only and flat pickers, the mahogany shines in the mid range. For singer/songwriters like me, the sweet highs and deeper lows, along with a slightly diminished mid range, accompanies vocals perfectly. A dominant mid range can often compete with a vocalist. Both are beautiful and both have their niche. Thanks for the great video!
Please make a video with the scale length comparison! Ben is fantastic player, can't wait to hear him playing with Pete
I like it when Ben having tons of technical knowledge but still taking with this ease and our criminal mind(captain) working to ease ben...long way to go...
Excellent guitarist... great presenter... good job🤗
Great review. Fantastic guitarist too
