    These guys record some music for real on iTunes or Spotify or something. This quick improvisation in outstanding, I can only imagine what they're possible of in a studio. Please, I'll buy it. Every time I watch one of these it makes me want to pick up my guitar and play. Excellent.

    • @luciustitius
      @luciustitius Před 7 lety +2

      You are absolutly right. They are that inspiring. But i think they won´t do it. Recording songs take an awful lot of time and effort. It is a bad business model for grown up professional musicians who have bills to pay. ´Cause there is no money in iTunes or Spotify. For a 1.000.000 downloads you earn about $5.000, €4.500, ‎₤3.900! It was reported that there was more revenue with vinyls in Britain in 2016 than with music downloads. Doesn´t that speak for itself?

    As usual a fantastic video - I just love listening to the guys play and talk. For me the conversations they have enriches the whole experience and in this case gives some fantastic advice - 'Before you part with your gard earned cash go and play several guitars and let one choose you!' I went out to buy a Martin and a Taylor choose me - 'Lorretta' and I now make music together! Keep playing guys and putting smiles on our faces. How's about entry level quality guitars at around £500? Martin 'X' range etc

    The "philosophy/hippie/falling in love with an instrument" aspect is the BEST part of these videos! Anyone can do specs and tonal analysis. Music is every bit as much about feeling as notes (to me) and I'm glad such talented musicians as you two appreciate that. BTW, I'm a Gibson lover but the Martin sounded the most balanced to my ear.

    Gents, please keep up your stories and anecdotes when you "get off the track". It's fabulous to tap into the experience of people who have owned and played many guitars; especially those who have done it in front of other people! My guitar experience is very limited and only fairly recent so i find your stories are great.

    I think your "straying" and "roundabouts" were perfectly fitting for this video. You got to the heart of comparing three great guitars. There is no "this is the best one". You demonstrated perfectly for a consumer, they all have particular characteristics, but it all comes down to which one feels great to you, and makes you never want to put it down.
    Additionally, this is the reason, even if you decide on a make and model, you should play as many as you can. Not every D-28 will feel the same.

      I just bought a Blueridge BR-40 for taking to classes and outdoor events. It's a poor man's Martin. It would be interesting to see your take on it, and its more expensive siblings. With the Martin strings {SP Lifespan 92/8 Phosphor Bronze Medium (MSP7200)} it sounds very similar to a Martin dreadnought. But I prefer the sound of the D'Addario phosphor bronze strings it ships with.

  • @napalmhardcore
    @napalmhardcore Před 7 lety +2

    I was personally liking the Gibson most but all of them sounded great. With both electrics and acoustics, how fresh the strings are make a huge difference. However with acoustics there is the additional consideration of them aging and how they open up over time.
    I really want a solid top, back and sides guitar one day as all of my current guitars are either solid top, composite back and sides or composite only (one I know is solid top, the others I'm not sure about). An aged all solid wood guitar just sounds special.

    The single most important factor in the sound of an acoustic guitar is the bracing. That's why the Martin sounds like a Martin. There's a reason luthiers call it "voicing" a guitar when they shape the bracing.

    Sound-wise the Hummingbird has the midrangey Gibson thump, the Martin 'scooped' with a bit more bass and the Taylor pretty balanced. I'm fortunate enough to have a D-28 and I've always wanted a J-45 to complement. It's just like I have a Telecaster and want a Les Paul. Chocolate and vanilla. Both good. Thanks for the great videos.

      ...and I will add that I think these blindfold tests show that the differences are very subtle! If you don't need a super specific sound and just want quality, it's possible to get along just fine with any one of these (or less expensive quality guitars) as your only guitar.

    About tone, I liked more Pete playing the Martin and Mick playing the Taylor or the Gibson.
    Just ear opinion about bond between tone and playing signature.
    But I almost forgot to say: Nice video!!!! (so I came back here to edit the post).
    (((( ) ) ) )
    And yes, you can do more of those.
    One thing that I saw and thought... that's interesting...
    was a portable microphone that fits inside the acoustic guitar and points outside the guitar mouth.
    So, you have one more suggestion for another video:
    Portable microphones to place inside the acoustic guitar.
    That's one thing that I don't know how to choose and I don't know the available options in the market.

    The martin sounded full and even through the whole range. The Gibson sounded full at the bottom and jangly but not harsh at the top. The taylor surprised me, the cedar really took away what I always hear as a tight trebly sound through the whole tonal range on Taylor's. I have an 814ce and it sounds very different. Also have a D42 and it has more bottom end than the D28 in the vid. But I really like the sound of that D28.
