  • Welcome to Adi's Little Shedshop, in this video I decided to make the manager of my local gym a desk sign as an appreciation for getting me accepted on the "Friends-Of-Fitness" scheme so I could go to the gym at Fitness4Less and managed to lose 6st in under 2yrs. I started with the idea of doing a double sided desk sign with Matts name on one side and Manager on the other and after Mrs Shedshop had spent her time drawing out the letters for me (as I find it difficult), she is the artistic one so I might as well make use of it if I can, I got them stuck onto the piece of Ash and was ready to go. I hadn't actually done one of these before so it was a bit daunting, but I know that when you go thicker on wood with the scrollsaw, you tend to take it slow and let the saw do the work instead of feeding it too quickly. Unfortunately after about 4 letters my blade snapped and at that point I realised I had no more of them so I changed the blade, but I didn't choose wisely enough. I started with a number 5 skiptooth Pegas blade and ended on a 0 skiptooth Pegas at 22.5TPI which was such a silly mistake when I looked back but, the sign still looked good at the end, so I pivoted and that is what was given as the gift instead. After sanding to 320 grit I finished with a coat of lacquer and as it was being given the next day I needed to accelerate the drying process which I did with the use of my 2.8kW heater, it only takes around 5mins with the lacquer I use. This is a great gift idea and I hope it was received in the manner it was given but, anyway I enjoyed making it.

Hi, thankyou for watching Adi's Little Shedshop and thankyou for your lovely comment. I do believe it was received as intended and it is still sitting on his desk which of course makes me happy. Thankyou and keep watching for more Shedshop videos.

Nice bit of work 👏 lovely bright 🌞 sheen / shine to the finished product.
When you showed the end grain ? I think you perhaps had cut through going across the grain ? Would you have gotten a better easier cut going with it instead 🤔 ?
Also maybe just a tad on the thick side 🤔 ,say instead of say 2" go for 1" / 1 1/4" and mount on a small base plate possibly a bit darker ??.
Hope you got some new blades for Christmas for the saw??
Beware Mrs shed shop 😮 be taking over soon. 😅😊
    You 👀 know who.
    Cheers 🍻.

Hi Les thankyou for watching Adi's Little Shedshop and your comments. I hadn't thought about the orientation of the grain being much of a problem because I, "was", meant to go through both directions of it but there is a possibility that it may have gone easier if I had tried the other way. Yeah I definitely agree it was soo thick, I know my machine can do up to 2 1/2inch max at a push, but that's going to have to be an exceptional reason to try that again lol. That lacquer is one of the best finishes for speed I have come across and it is obviously meant for cars but it dries unbelievably quick even without accelerated drying.
