Sometimes however, these joke characters that should exist just to be punching bags for the better characters, turn out to be inexplicably competent and absolutely lethal in the right hands. I clicked on this as soon as I noticed the thumbnail before I even read what the video was about.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I loved this for the GC. I bought my GC only to play a few games and this was one. Along with Super Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, the Resident evil remake and RE 0, and of course Animal Crossing.
Anyone familiar with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure would in no way consider Pet Shop to be a joke character. That bird was friggin' terrifying.

The actual joke character that’s surprisingly good is of course hol horse given his role in the source material
@@CollinandBri Araki actually loves dogs. He has so many of them killed in the series because he thinks the easiest way to show someone is irredeemably evil is to have them hurt a dog. That's why the one that was suppose to be somewhat sympathetic, Kars, actually PROTECTED a dog. He wasn't evil, he just had such a fundamentally different concept of morality that he couldn't be treated as anything but a villain.
I remember in bloody roar you could put a permanent beast form option after finishing the game. I would then proceed to sneaky-activate this, pick cronos and suprise my brother with a permanent broken phoenix. Fun times indeed.
Let's not forget giant head and feet mode, too. God, I want that game to be rebooted so bad!
There was also a speed up mode that made the game faster & you can turn off blocking. We would set it up so you can only evade an attack or attack. I used to use Chronos phoenix mode mercilessly with the flying air swoop then double sided flame attack… great times.
Pet Shop isn’t a joke character. In the anime and manga, he’s an absolute monster. If anyone in that game is a joke character, it would be Hol Horse and Boingo, a duo so incompetent they defeated themselves before their targets even noticed they were being attacked.
Slightly correct as it Oingo and Boingo that pulled off that feat of the Crusaders not realizing they were in danger.
Hol Horse and Boingo almost defeated them, but bad luck got in the way. Alongside the gang noticing Hol Horse.
I played the jojo's bizarre adventure game on the emulator and Hol Horse's A.I. is an entire troll. I died to it 5 times just it wouldn't stop spamming the down gunshots
I main both Iggy and pet shop and I love playing as them...
I thought alessi was the joke character, since he is so bad

@@SilverByakuya yes. Iggy stand if i remember correctly is the fool. In tarot cards, the fool number is 0 which can be the lowest number, or the highest number. Meaning, Iggy has unlimited potential.
@@SilverByakuya Iggy's Stand gave him almost complete control over sand, and was only limited by his imagination as a result. It could be used offensively, defensively, or in utilitarian ways that many stands can't - including the ability to create imitative constructs like the puppet Dio that Iggy constructed to manipulate Ice.

For all i know, Iggy can copy Either Star Platinum or The World and stops time.
SilverByakuya Iggy’s stand controlled sand, and any stand that allows the user to control something broad (sand, time, ice, life etc.) is going to be absolutely BUSTED just because of its potential
Imagine thinking petshop was EVER meant to be considered a joke. In the anime / manga petshop was basically a bird sized slasher monster. A cruel and terryfying predator that will not be stopped in his quest for bloodshed.
He isn’t a joke character in game either, the main reason he’s actually banned is because he can get basically free unblockables that can lead into Touch of Death combos, not because he can fly. If anything, flying isn’t a good option due to the fact that he can’t block while above his base flying level
He like crushed a guy to death with a damn ice BOULDER. Killed two buff dogs. By ripping and eating their heads off.
He was the guard dog for a 200 year old vampire who can stop time. He's gonna be pretty serious
I mean, this is a series with Bizarre in the name. Every character is a bit of a joke. Pet Shop is named Pet Shop, can smile with a beak, and can his wipe his mouth with a wing. For what it's worth, I agree that he doesn't belong on this list, but I like Outside Xbox, and JoJo's is very confusing, so I'll cut them some slack.

my favorite part about dan is that he really does have the potential to be powerful in canon. like that time in the comics he almost succumbs to the satsui no hado, tries to perform a raging demon, but eats shit immediately and snaps out of it
Nobody at O|X has ever pissed off a chicken before apparently. That whole bit with Link pissing off the chickens and then they come to kill him, that’s based on a true story. Chickens are scary af if you piss them off.

It’s very funny that Chairperson should have learned Dan’s martial art in Rival Schools, considering that it’s speculated whether RAN Hibiki is technically a relative of Dan’s.
When you were talking about Joke characters, and I saw heritage for the future, literally the last character I would consider a joke is petshop. Like, maybe Maria, because her stand is pretty pathetic, especially in a fight. Or maybe Joseph, since Hermit Purple isn't meant to be used in a fight, so you're essentially slapping someone with wires. But Petshop? The first time we see him, he crushes a guy and his car with an ice boulder, and impales two dogs. He makes Iggy bite off his own leg. That bird is fucked
Hermit purple isnt really meant for fighting but joseph is! Bro legit out smarted Dio in part 3, and out smarted basically the whole cast of part 4, and still was an amazing fighter, hermit purple just allows him to hamon zap from far away.

And he didn't exactly outsmart DIO, either. DIO managed to realize what Joseph was planning just in time to avoid a dose of hamon, and the realization of DIO's ability to stop time was thanks to Kakyoin.
@@LloydTheZephyrian We aren't talking about part 4, considering he never fought anyone and part 4 joseph isnt in this game, were talking about how joseph part 3 wouldn't be a joke character, and also he almost outsmarted dio, is more what i meant, and its not like kakyoin just yelled out the answer, he broke a clock, in which joseph had probably like 30 seconds to figure out what it meant. Joseph is in no way weak during part 3 and isnt a joke character in this game.

also, it's JoJo's *_Bizarre_* Adventure, if you see any character and assume it's a joke character, you're probably wrong
heck, one of the villains was (albeit for a brief moment) in actual risk of death by fighting a _flower_
Yeah when you play story mode it's also obvious she's one of the most heroic characters since she knows she's not super-strong, but feels obliged to protect her friends.

Seeing Bloody Roar in here warmed my heart. It was such an underrated game series. I'm glad it hasn't been forgotten.

When I was young and I bought a PS 2 I didn't even had Internet back then and the game that came out with Bloody Roar 3. And I got it with 2 controllers too and man I was playing with my friends all the time. Fun times.

Well... You could also add Shingo Yabuki. Which WAS a joke character in KOF'97. He almost able to recreate Kyo Kusanagi's moves(though, without flames), but compensates it with ability to deal freakin CRITS. In a fighting game.

Gotta say Doctor B’s fighting style is the most true to the drunken fights found outside fast food shops at 2am, although I have had some legendary battles with the crispy chicken from the same shop
When me and my brothers was younger. We didn't know dan was a joke character and as matter of fact we all loved him as a character in alpha 2. We actually created our own fan fiction with him. We thought he was a blind fighter who ken trained to help he get revenge against saget for killing his father. Lol we didn't find out about the joke background until we grew older and gained access to the internet. Still to this day he's a favorite to us all but only from alpha 1&2.
Not only did you plug my favorite fighter of all time, you put bloody roar on the thumbnail and started the list off with it. This made my week, seeing BR get some love finally
Dan in the Udon comics is hysterical. He's convinced that he's Ryu's rival, and Sakura lets him think that she's his apprentice at one point.
She learns and perfects the Hibiki Saikyo-ryu in a week, realizing that it's a mash-up of the fighting styles she's already studied. But to be fair, in the hands of someone actually strong, it actually IS a very powerful fighting style.
I mean she technically does learn from him so in a way she is.
So.. you guys are saying Dan made a great fighting style but his general incompetence made it look like shit but the Ryu fangirl fixed it while taking pitty on Dan?
@@dracosmith7781 I think it's the exact opposite. IIRC he made a janky trash fighting style and it "works" for him because he's secretly that much of a monster - the guy watched Ryu do a Hadoken, tried it himself and did it *one-handed* and immediately thought "I need to patent this"

Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. He's literally just a normal dude who is a lawyer by trade. He's the slowest character in the game and has garbage reach for most of his moves. He also has 1 million HP and if he manages to activate turnabout mode all of his attacks will reach halfway across the screen and he gains access to his level 3 hyper combo which is the single most damaging attack in the entire game, and can't be dodged.
Don't forget all his assist moves become absurdly powerful and, as long as he isn't the active character, the timer on his turnabout mode never runs out. So you can activate turnabout mode and then switch to another character, who will be able to call super powerful assists, and if that character gets KO'd then you still have all your turnabout mode timer left as Phoenix.
I mean, he's pretty crazy durable in his games, but yeah, definitely did not expect him to be the strongest Phoenix in a game that includes Jean Grey.
But Phoenix Wright is by no means intended to be a joke character. He was actually a fan favorite added after years of fans asking.
He's a character balanced around being weak in one state and extremely powerful in another, with signicant investment (usually) required to active his turnabout mode, which fighting games are peppered with.
And let's not forget Servbot in MVC2

Which is a non-issue for anybody who knows the proper movesets for the character they're playing as. If the guy is a short fighter why would you keep using high kicks and punches?
As others have said, Petshop is by no means a joke character, in the manga he's a genuine threat and an important part of the story, I feel you judged him by his appearance there.
He's also a violent psychopath who loves torturing others.

DIO has a Logical Reason why he hired a Bird to guard his house.
Mace: The Dark Age also had a killer chicken IIRC. A Sega Saturn game had a car. The original Cho Aniki had an anthropomorphic battleship complete with tiny human crew.
Pet Shop looks like a joke only because you see a bird. There is a reason he is one of Dio's most feared henchmen, and it's because he is absolutely terrifying, cruel, efficient, AND the fact he is a bird gives him an incredible air advantage.
Anyone who's seen JJBA Part 3 knows that Petshop isn't a joke.

Honestly, pet shop is one of the scariest characters in JJBA. Imagine a falcon relentlessly chasing you only to make sure you are dead no matter what and there is no escape.

Pet Shop is definitely not a joke character, he's portrayed as one of the most menacing characters in the part.
When you started talking about Chairperson, I kept expecting the half-woman half-furniture creature to show up. Took me too long to realize it's supposed to be a gender-neutral Chairman/woman. Now I'm disappointed she's not a chairbeast

raynaldo arlen k.eman Konami would have to want to do something with the IP and they haven’t since acquiring the property 15 years ago. It’s super unfortunate, as a game like this would look phenomenal on current consoles. There is hope though, Killer Instinct had almost a 20 year hiatus before releasing on the XBox One.
The hope would be Konami is interested in reviving it or at some point another company want to purchase it. Konami has definitely been sleeping on its IPs with the exception of Metal Gear. There’s a lot of nostalgic games, I would spend mad money on if they released or even re-released.

I don't know, as someone who's watched a few anime where high school is a major setting, it just looks to me like Chairperson is wearing a summer P.E. uniform... while using the winter top as a cape for some reason.

Picking Dan is a very special case because it's a 'no lose' scenario for you. You put the pressure of winning to your opponent alone because nobody wants to be the guy that lost to Dan. And if you lose, well, no pressure because you were just using Dan in a game, treating it like a casual match.

Pet Shop is one of the scariest enemies in Part 3. Idk where Dio found a falcon who was more competent than 95 percent of stand users in that series but that falcon was terrifyingly badass.

I think you have a somewhat loose definition of the term "joke character". I never thought of Chronos the Phoenix as a joke character. I feel that his penguin form is meant to be a trade-off for having the ridiculously powerful phoenix form. Also, he's the final boss for most of the other fighters in the game.

Nah, while Gon is goofy, I classify him as one of those visiting from different franchise characters like Noctis from FFXV. Gon is the main character of a beloved manga series called, well, Gon and I think there was an anime series too.
Gon was covered on a previous list. In fact, I think he's been on two lists at this point (though I could be remembering that wrong). They probably wanted to give some of the other ridiculous characters a chance for the spotlight.

The real reason for the Petshop ban, is not because it can fly or too small. It's because its has ability to hold attack button and build up and drop Icicle from top side of the screen, even while blocking. It make attacking Petshop almost impossible, because he can drop those icicle at anytime after it appear on screen. It has no attack animation, don't interrupt his movement, and don't need to use all his attack button (and he still got his stand attack) and Petshop can combo into TOD from those Icicle. So basically, Petshop block attack > Drop Icicle on enemy that stuck in attack animation > TOD > Win.
Danpierre from Soul Calibur 5 was incredible. I made a TF2 BLU Spy with his moveset and it was absolutely hilarious, and really fun to play as.
They ruined Dan by improving him. Smack talk with fighting games was like: "You suck so bad, I'm gonna' beat you with Dan" and "You think you're great? Try me again using Dan!" By making him good they ruined the humiliation factor.

That's kinda his biggest strength. When people fight Dan, they laugh at him thinking "Oh, it's just Dan. OK, this fight isn't worth putting in much effort"... and that's when he gets you.

Yee, he's even introduced in a horror scene while shrouded in the most menacing aura in the series. 😩His strength is shown and implied immediatly so he's as strong as he looks.. and he looks sharp and evil in general. So doesn't really apply to this list.

Dan also had a super that was all taunts in one of his early games. Didn't do anything, was just him doing various taunts. Loved watching my brothers try and pull this off without getting knocked out of it.

He's already killed hsu hao, the red dragon guy who looked like a gay male stripper, and Kabal killed Mavado, who also sucked, as did frost, mokap, li mei, dairou, darrius, kira, hotaru, all BAD characters, who NEED to be killed off by Erron Black, and forgotten about. Even the devs at NRS HATED hsu hao!

JoJo itself doesn't take itself seriously, but pet shop is one of the most badass stand users in part 3, after watching david production's adaption. this, of course, coming from a series that makes you assume that only anything smart enough to be self aware can use a stand but ends up giving them to any random animal

Pet Shop IS self aware, though. Animals with Stands have their intelligence increased along with gaining their powers, becoming as smart as humans at the least. Iggy's inner monologue even said that Pet Shop wasn't just a vicious killer, but a sadist on par with DIO himself.

Pichu was intentionally designed in Melee to be terrible, but between adjustments to Pichu and Ultimate playing very differently to Melee, pichu came back so powerful that the devs had to nerf him in a patch

Corrections : Heritage For The Future came in 1999 for CPS 3 system. The version you are playing (or using footage) is the 1998 PSX version (Also known as JoJo's Venture) Which lacks some of the characters.
