  • OK, I'm a diehard Judas Priest fan and idol worshipper of the Metal God, Rob Halford. Only recently introduced to Babymetal, I'm checking out the highly recommended collab they did at an award show. I hope the experience lives up to the hype from the comments.

Of the two girls (Yuimetal & Moametal) only Moa at that point knows to play the guitar a little bit. I believe Mikio-san (the one who you say looks like Vinnie Vincent and has tragically passed away in early 2018) and Ohmura-san (the other guitarist) may have taught them a little on how to play the easier parts of this song but they were certainly put very low in the mix. Moametal seems to atleast know those simple parts but they were probably too low in the mix to be able to tell over the other guitarists.
It was indeed stage props as their usual contribution to the performance is strictly dance based and crowd engagements with a few vocal lines here and there. It was a fun way to make them participate in the medley with Rob Halford. They also sold those guitars which I'll admit I'd kill to get one of these.
It would've been interesting I think for you to react to the post-medley interview with Rob and the girls where he praises them for their hard work and the balls to be doing what they're doing at such young age with so much metal elitists giving them a hard time. Rob has earned a lot of good points in my book, I knew of Judas Priest before of course but his openmindedness and his kind words for BABYMETAL have made me a fan of him and listen to more Judas Priest.
I don't particularly like this performance but it's heart warming. I think for an award show, they sounded great and it's as always just fun, nothing else to take away from outside of that. Also, you should always take peoples comments on CZcams with a grain of salt. There are super fans who will absolutely love everything their favourite band does with little to no critical thinking. I think this collab was cool, but it's certainly not groundbreaking either. I know that as a BABYMETAL fan this is something I'll enjoy much more than most anyone else.
TL;DR I don't think you're the problem here :D. If you want your socks to be blown off, there are countless other things coming. I'd suggest going for a good old Road of Resistance (Live in Japan) to blow some of your doubts away and then we can go on from there.

Actually, Mikio was teaching Yui to play guitar, so that is not quite accurate. She could play basic power chords at this point.

Love your thoughtful and honest takes during your reacts and reviews, it's excellent to watch. Others said what I would as well, that this is a really joyful and fun moment for Babymetal and the Kami band they are so happy to share time with Rob Halford, and he is both gracious and expresses how much he likes them as well in other interviews, its a fun moment but definitely not a pillar of amazing music.
This is a step in their journey, from discovering metal to begin with and loving it, then finding ways to make their own, then excelling at it, to becoming so good that they start to take over main-stage in festivals and sell out every venue they play. I love that you saw this, but in a way wish it was after a couple more steps following some early excellent live performances so you would feel more of how they earned this fun moment. Look forward to more!

IMO you're a bit early for this. This video is better when you've watched enough BABYMETAL performances to really appreciate how they've paid their dues. They really are unbelieveabley dedicated, talented, and hard-working, and when you get that understood, seeing them cut loose and celbrate their success here with one of the all time greats of metal feels like such a hard-earned deram come true.

@@TheAncientMetaler-1963 Many of us BM fans will feel like this was way too early for you. You haven't even scratched the surface of BABYMETAL and what they can do yet and what you've seen of them so far is somewhat of an average fan compilation. But I agree, for a BABYMETAL fan, it's fun to see them break loose a bit on this performance - something you understandably wouldn't care for nearly as much as your average BM fan.
Many of us have converted when they have seen BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance (Live in Japan). I'd suggest honing in on that particular performance next before you get sick of giving them chances.

👊🏽⚡️Yes I get the comparison with Vinny Vincent. Same hair and build…🦊🤘🏾The guitarist from the Kami band your were talking about is Mikio Fujioka. RIP. He passed away in 2018 from injuries when he fell from a tower while stargazing. He stands out in the Kami band because of his frenetic leads and big smile.
On a side note I think the only law these girls have ever broke was to be teenage Japanese girls in the world of metal. They have caused many others to follow their lawless path.

Honestly not too sure if they were playing it the whole time. I BELIEVE (could be wrong) Moametal the girl that was on the far right of the stage when you're looking straight at the stage like the audience was, is the better guitarist of the two as she was taking guitar lessons longer than Yuimetal was. So I think Moa was actually playing majority of the song, but her channel was turned way down so you don't really hear it, but you can very much see Ohmura-San guiding Moametal when they were doing their little guitar riff thing and you can see Moa concentrating and following along. She definitely needs practice, but she knows what she's doing all in all, just needs the confidence in herself in doing it and some more time and practice. Yuimetal was still very green and I would not be surprised of her guitar was more prop. Again might be very wrong. Either way, I get a kick seeing them with those little guitars. They are the definition of Kawaii with their baby guitars that are like half the size of regular guitars. Every time I see that I get a smile on my face lol

I would have recommended this once you were like 20is songs in but not this early. The real gift to a real fan of BABYMETAL is just to see how much fun they had with it especially the lead singer SU METAL
Anyway I hope you continue to enjoy your BABYMETAL journey, I see you also Reacted to Road of Resistance, now that is TRUE BABYMETAL! Going to go watch it now!

I think Rob saw Babymetal perform and that was why he said they are the future of Babymetal. He isn't really the only one to say similar things. Rob Zombie has commented on them, Metallica, KoRn, Slipknot, Red Hot Chilipeppers, and many other huge bands are massive fans of Babymetal and have toured with them. Heck. Even Lady Gaga has done a show with Babymetal. So they've kind of taken the music industry by storm. Hmm... after saying it that way, that kind of has me thinking that maybe THAT is why he said they are the future. He probably noticed all these other huge names are fans of theirs and so feels they are the future because of the fans they have backing them. Just a thought that occurred to me now lol

This was an epic clash of Metal God and Fox God 🦊🤘🔥
There's an interview you can find after this with both of them, really fun.
Rob Halford said he was so excited about this that even bought a cloth to match up with the colors of the girls. lol
And he's waiting for another chance to collaborate together on a new song.
Is all about fun and having a good time with a metal legend and the future of the metal sound.
Our girls we'll never forget Rob's kind words and support when saying: _"Stay metal."_ 🤘
One of the girls, MoaMetal can actually play the guitar and she took some lessons way before this, the other girl (YuiMetal ) might be mimicking. In an interview MoaMetal got this question and she pretty much said she did played the guitar.

Great reaction, bonus points for singing along. Ya, the girls aren't really playing the guitars, it's more just for show, I think they missed a trick not giving them cardboard guitars like the old priest videos. Personally, I really enjoy this performance, I think Su did a great job to stay with arguably the best metal singer of all-time in her second language. I don't think many there are many who can sing painkiller with the man himself, and the Kami band did a great job with this medley. I'm a bit disappointed they cut the solos, but with limited show time it's forgivable. Overall, it's just a bit of fun, and it makes me happy seeing an 18-year-old living out the dream of so many singing painkiller stage with Rob Halford
I suggest the BABYMETAL - Akatsuki LIVE at Budokan Black Night for your next reaction.

  • @Grington300
    @Grington300 Před rokem +14

It was the moment, the occasion and sharing a stage with Rob Halford, playing a couple of his songs, that mattered most here. But it was an awards show with the quality of an awards show audience, audio and camerawork (ie crap audience, audio and camerawork), none of which helped at all (for those reasons please do not watch this performance of 'Karate' - watch the official video, live at Download 2016 or live at Budokan 2021).
Also the introduction you mentioned - they had one job and got the names wrong (it's not like they are difficult) Yuimetal became Yeemetal somehow, Moametal was renamed Mohmetal.
That performance with Rob Halford was special for them. They did an interview right after and Rob, as you would expect, was completely gracious, turning the attention back to BABYMETAL if the interviewer tried to make it about him, and was an absolute gent. He said they were originally only going to do 'Breaking the Law', but he was enjoying rehearsing with them so much that he said "Let's do 'Painkiller' as well" and they made it work with this first ever mash up - so 'Painkiller' was a sort of last minute afterthought and late addition to what they had been rehearsing.
He also described Su, Yui and Moa as "Fearless Heavy Metal Monster Ladies" ... which made them giggle and he told them to "Stay Metal" - a message they took to heart and still quote.
On 'Painkiller', if you listen to the original (clearly you don't need to, you know it every bit as well as I do) there is a part where Rob is double tracked (I think that is the term?) and harmonises with himself - in this performance he was singing the lower register part, Su was harmonising the higher register part, she was not singing a different melody. She may not have known the song very well and was singing in a language she didn't speak well at the time, but she was hitting the right notes effortlessly.
One of the girls (Moa - on the right as we look at them) could play a bit, the other (Yui) was a beginner, but they are not guitarists, they are the singers / dancers. They spoke about being nervous about playing guitar live on stage - so were they playing? Yui was a beginner so less likely, Moa could already play some and they had a couple of the best teachers in Mikio and Takayoshi to help them learn and prepare if they were going to play live ... and the camera never really caught Moa when she might have been playing the main riff.
As I said earlier, the camerawork really didn't help at all as it was also focusing on Mikio and Yui hitting a few power chords while Takayoshi played the solo at the other end of the stage and completely missing Moa and Takayoshi in classic rock guitar kneeling and laying back pose (entirely instigated by Moa ... of course).
Not so long ago Rob Halford said he would love to collaborate again with BABYMETAL, but this time to record a new song with them in Japanese.

From a technical standpoint, this show was certainly nothing to write home about. And I assume that's not what people recommending it had in mind. Both bands have done better shows. But the pure fact that these two groups from both ends of the world and Metal history are sharing a stage in mutual respect is really amazing. And you may not know this, but it's very rare that we BABYMETAL fans get to see Su unbound by choreography, so it's very refreshing to see her play some air guitar with Rob Halford.

Yui and Moa were playing live, as you suspected, for the opening riff. But then were turned down in the mix. Yui, stage right, very much a beginner and just trying to strum along with the main chords. Moa, stage left, actually does play guitar and was doing a bit more, could have been left in the mix, but if so, was too low to really discern clearly. Not turned back up when the opening riff comes back around.
