    This had to be a pretty awesome moment...for Rob Halford, lol. Seriously though, for Babymetal and the Kami Band to get to perform with Rob f'ing Halford is definitely an amazing thing to have done in your careers. They've also had Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dragonforce perform live with them as well.

    That was fun. They did an interview straight after this, the video is on CZcams (Rob did most of the talking) and there was a lot of mutual respect - he described BABYMETAL as "Heavy Metal Monster Ladies". He said that when they first asked him to be their guest they said to pick whatever song he wanted for them to play with him. They were only going to do 'Breaking the Law' originally but Rob Halford was enjoying the rehearsals so much he suggested to add 'Painkiller'. Rob Halford is a gentleman and a really good guy.

    This was my second favorite Babymetal award show performance with "friends" aside from Dragonforce at Download. Basically the organizer didn't respect babymetal, but Dragonforce invited them and had them perform on stage with them anyways since "Road of Resistance" was originally recorded with Dragonforce's guitarists. Needless to say that was an epic award show moment itself. The interviews about it were funny too hearing how the organizers weren't told about it.

    • @ANDOR-
      @ANDOR- Před 3 lety +3

      To say the organizer of Download "didn't respect" Babymetal is an understatement. I heard interviews from him where he was asked about them in 2014 or 2015 and he outright said, without saying the word itself, that he hated Babymetal. Some stuff like "there's no place for a gimmick band such as this at my festival", "they play pop music and Download is a metal festival" and "what do three girls know about this kind of music", etc etc. But the award ceremony you're speaking of (Metal Hammer Golden God Awards) was a year after they played with Dragonforce at Download. Agree with everything else you said :)

    Cool reactions, thank you. Some people still criticize Babymetal over their origins (they were kids ffs), but they grew into loving this music. Su has all the talent in the world and if she didn't like this, she could have left at any point to do whatever she wanted to do, but she grew into a proper Metal queen.
    One of Babymetal's most precious videos is Su singing these two songs by her own, in an improvised moment with the Kami band and Chad Smith drumming, while they were supporting the RHCP. It's such a perfect video for many reasons, even if the recording isn't perfect (all we have is fan cams). Just watching it and seeing Su enjoying herself in a completely non-scripted manner brings a smile to my face.

    It came as no surprise to me that Rob Halford loves BABYMETAL . Here's my Judas Priest story.
    I can confirm from my own experience of meeting Rob, that yes he is openly gay and very camp off stage. I met him when my friend and I travelled over from UK to Belgium to see then play at the Vorst Nationaal, Forest-Est, nr Brussels. The arena is an 8,000 seater. We got the venue at 7.30am the doors were unlocked so we went in and sat in a seat.
    At about 8.30am the road crew arrived and we were hired as day crew. The band turned up later that day for a sound check and we met them after that had good chat and got their autographs they were all really nice, although Ian Hill was a bit elusive, Rob is such a nice guy so friendly,
    Def Leppard were their support band that night along with a German band called Wolf.
    Unfortunately I caused a big argument between the band members of Def Leppard due to me telling them "when asked" that I hadn't bought their second album as it was too commercial for me. Joe Elliott shouted at the others "I TOLD YOU!" then they all started shouting... lol.. I quickly backed out of there dressing room, I only nipped in to get their autographs.
    But the best and worst thing about the show was, the road crew gave my friend and me the job of when the arena lights were turned out and intro music started to play Desert plains, I think, we had to run onto stage, stage left and stage right to the middle and pull back the black curtains that hid the back line and the cage underneath the drum riser that Rob was going ride the Harley through a park in the middle of the stage. KK and Glen were waiting on hydraulic platform behind the Marshall stacks either side of the drum riser ready to be raised to the platform running along the top Marshall's.
    My friend and I discussed it, chose which side of stage we were taking and had it all planed even practiced it... Easy!
    Well. The arena light went out the intro started and we ran head first into each other in the pitch dark in the middle of the stage! After both getting up we couldn't find the join in the curtain,,,,, and all the time the intro is playing KK and Glen are slowly rising on there platforms.... It seemed like an eternity, out there in the dark fighting with a curtain. Anyway we found the middle join and dragged the curtains off the stage. And the show went on. It was Awesome. Especially Beyond the realms of death. Because I positioned the lights on the mirror ball.

    I'm a lifelong rock music fan, but Judas Priest never really was on my playlists, to be honest. And my only exposure to Breaking The Law was, you guess it, Beavis and Butthead, but I always loved this song, and this gig here is something really special. You can see in their faces how the members of the Kami band are feeling so honored to be there, as they are whenever they play the biggest venues in Japan and overseas. You can only get so much recognition as some of the best session musicians in the country, but to play before tens of thousands of people? All of that is due to Babymetal.

    No Rob Halford, but Chad Smith in as a drummer. SU-METAL's singing is more badass (and you can see the one-in-a-million moment, her voice cracked and she failed to hit a note!).

  • @ANDOR-
    @ANDOR- Před 3 lety

    I'm always sad they stop Painkiller shortly before the guitar solo. One of my favorite solos of all time. But I'm absolutely with you on everything you said about Judas Priest, Rob Halford and Painkiller.
    You commended his guts, but you also have to look at it from the other side. A 17 year old girl, who isn't confident in her English skills, getting on stage with a metal legend and performing one of his songs. That really takes a lot if you ask me.
    Babymetal got the award for, I think, best live band at this award show (Alternative Press Music Awards) and they performed Karate right before this one, that's why he was their guest. You should watch the interview someone linked in another comment, it's really cool.
    Lars Ulrich was by the way the first of the metal greats to speak out that he likes Babymetal, even before anyone really knew them "in the west". Metallica and Babymetal were both at the Summer Sonic Festival, which is held in the greater Tokyo area, in 2013. Su, Moa and Yui became fans and learned a lot from Metallica when they watched their performance that day. These days there are a lot of metal bands/artists who endorse and like Babymetal. To only name a few: Corey Taylor (BM even had a cameo in his CMFT video), Rob Zombie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, KoRn, Bring Me The Horizon, Sabaton, Dragonforce, Mike Portnoy, etc. The lead singer of Trivium, Matt Heafy, is a big fan and went to several of their concerts. There are about 100 photos of him posing in Babymetal shirts and stuff like that.

    Rob might be their guest, but in full respect they perform 2 Judas Priest priest songs.
    Unique in every way this performance, including trying to fit 2 Judas Priest songs into this time slot, done as a sort of medley.
    Babymetal over the years had many metal artists encourage them and Rob was one of the most supportive. All these artists know very much what it is like to go on the road and tour and these girls were doing world tours at age 15 and 16. Performing at festivals in Japan at age 14 and 15 where they met Metallica. And they got to first meet the guys at the festival and then see them perform live, it left a lasting impression on the girls. Especially lead singer Su-metal. Their 'metal conviction' or whatever you want to call it became much deeper because of it.
    A sort of catchphrase of what Rob has said to the girls (at some festival) has stuck with them has been used this year in Babymetal social media campaign; Rob has told them: "Stay Metal".
    Babymetal's campaign this year because of covid was: Stay Healthy, Stay Metal.

      We don't know how serious it is or just good marketing, but the organizer of Download festival UK has tweeted in 2015 Babymetal would never perform at Download Festival, it's just a gimmick that will pass. But that year Dragonforce was going to perform, that would be their 5th time in 10 years. And they invited Babymetal on stage to perform Gimme Choco with them. Their are interviews and videos of Babymetal walking around back stage at the festival. Obviously that got some press. If Babymetal wasn't allowed to be their they obviously wouldn't be, so someone cleared them to be there. And that authority obviously ultimately goes to the organizer. In 2016 Babymetal released an album with sold even better and performed at the famous Wembley Arena Babymetal was performing mainstage at Download Festival UK. Clearly not some gimmick after all. ;-) And they performed again at Download festival 2018.
