Su-metal sang these two songs on her own at the O2 arena in London with Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on the drums. It was a special moment because it was also her birthday. czcams.com/video/lcdm3br1bd0/video.html

Always good to see you back with Babymetal!
Definitely an epic moment for the queens and a smash in the face of the haters.
You should also have a look at the interview with Rob and the girls, there is probably no greater compliment than the Metal god himself saying you're the future of Metal.

Great reaction, you were right, you could just see the sheer joy on Su-metal's face.😊🦊 That was a fun occasion and one they still remember enjoying as well as Rob Halford's encouraging words in the interview afterwards to "Stay Metal!" - a message they took to heart.🤘
I completely agree about the appalling camerawork completely missing Takayoshi (and Moa as well perhaps) doing the guitar solo while Mikio (RIP) and Yui hit a couple of power chords. The camera also managed to miss Takayoshi and Moa down on their knees and lying back in "classic metal guitarist pose" (instigated entirely by Moa of course) as they played (I've seen a fan cam which caught that).
Yui and Moa did say they had been practising hard and were very nervous about playing guitar live. I don't know if they did play live in the end, but they did have access to two of the very best teachers to help them prepare if they were going to in the form of the Kami Band guitarists Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Takayoshi Ohmura - and as you said at the start, I wouldn't think the main riff for 'Breaking the Law' is the hardest to learn.
Moa could play a bit, Yui was a beginner so it is more likely Moa was playing than Yui. They both had custom three quarter size limited edition ESP Babymetal mini arrow guitars for this.
Rob bought the jacket and his outfit specially for this performance to match BABYMETAL's signature red and black colours and in the interview afterwards Rob (absolute gent) was full of praise for the girls describing them as "Fearless heavy metal monster ladies" ... that made them giggle.
They were only going to do 'Breaking the Law' originally, but Rob said he was enjoying rehearsing with them so much that he said "Let's do Painkiller as well", so they put this mash up of the two songs together.
At the end of their UK tour supporting Red Hot Chilli Peppers later that year they did this mash up of 'Painkiller' and 'Breaking the Law' again, but Su did all the vocals by herself and Chad Smith from RHCP was all dressed up as a Kami Band member and was playing drums ... and with a special birthday surprise for Su at the end - there are a couple of fancam videos of that if you're interested ... I just saw someone has posted a link for you already.
Not so long ago Rob Halford said he would love to collaborate again with BABYMETAL, but this time to record a new song with them in Japanese.

The whole thing was a joy to behold. That said, I can't help but think that for one night, for one two-song medley, Michio and the rest of the Kami band WERE Judas Priest. I cannot help but think what impression that made on them. They definitely made the best of it and Rob made sure to compliment them profusely afterwards. Also, love the Sad Wings of Destiny shirt you're sporting. I became a lifelong fan of Priest back in 1984 (Defenders of the Faith) and immediately bought all their back albums. Coincidentally, the best Live Album ever recorded, in my opinion, was Unleashed in the East which included the best recording of Sinner EVER... as well as 3 songs off SWoD, if I remember correctly... recorded in Japan, of course... as for Rob being the Metal God.... can only guess it's because of the song Metal Gods, off the awesome British Steel album.... sorry, got carried away...

    Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey.🦊🤘🔥
This was an epic clash of Metal God and Fox God 🦊🤘🔥
There's an interview you can find after this with both of them, really fun.
Rob Halford said he was so excited about this that even bought a cloth to match up with the colors of the girls. lol
And he's waiting for another chance to collaborate together on a new song.
Is all about fun and having a good time with a metal legend and the future of the metal sound.
Our girls we'll never forget Rob's kind words and support when saying: _"Stay metal."_ 🤘
One of the girls, MoaMetal can actually play the guitar and she took some lessons way before this, the other girl YuiMetal (it pronounce "u - e") is just mimicking. In an interview MoaMetal got this question and she pretty much said she did played the guitar.
    Next suggestion:
    - YAVA! with Kami Band intro live at Fox Festival 2017

「“Gimme Chocolate!!'

I'm pretty sure that Yui and Moa were playing live at least in the first part of the song. Listen to how fat that opening riff sounds. That is all 4 guitars. Compare to how it sounds when it comes back around later in the song. That is 2, or maybe 2½, guitars. The girls were turned down in the mix after the opening. And except for that riff, Yui was just strumming along with the main chords. Moa was doing quite a bit more. But the heavy lifting was left to Mikio and Ohmura.
I'm pretty sure the girls were gifted those short-scale guitars on their first show outside Japan (in Singapore). The guitars also appear in the Ijime, Dame, Zettai MV.

      @BemusingBill  Před 5 měsíci +3

I mentioned that to my wife when we were watching the playback like, they have matching guitars and I think they are 3/4 scale! Awesome! Yes, Moa was playing since she can play and Yui was just mimicking but doing a very good job doing it! The second half with Breaking the Law is my favorite part! 🤘🦊🤘

The performance as such is nothing to write home about, in my opinion, but seeing these two generations of Metal from different ends of the world having fun together in mutual respect is very satisfying and entertaining. I particularly love the part when Su plays air guitar with Rob. It's a rare gift for a BABYMETAL fan to get a glimpse at Suzuka as opposed to Su-metal.

Haha hell yeah! Epic moment and much respect to Rob for supporting Babymetal! Su, Moa, and Yui were absolutely ecstatic, and great to see them being themselves and having fun.
Regarding the stage setup: Babymetal does go all out for their arena shows, which is the majority of what you've seen thus far. However, the vast majority of their shows are at smaller venues while on tour, with a similar stage setup. For reference, Babymetal has done only 2 major arena shows in 2023: Babymetal Returns (Jan) and Babymetal Begins (Apr). But, they've done ~90+ shows while on tour rest of 2023 across Asia, Europe, Australia, and the US, including a few festivals.
I suggest checking out fan cams of their concerts on your own! You'll see their setup the gals being themselves and having a blast on stage in 2023, more so than ever!
Look forward to more Babymetal! 🤘🦊

Going a bit off topic now, I just watched your Taylor Swift reaction, and eating disorders can be a big problem in the Music industry, especially Pop. Su-metal's older sister, Himeka Nakamoto was a J-Pop idol and developed a eating disorder. Once she aknowledged the problem, she went on haiatus to receive therapy. Once she overcame the disorder, instead of going back to the entertainment industry, Himeka went to college to become a mental health professional herself. Not only does she now have a practice, but also does call-in radio shows. A true success story there. ❤
**Edit** I just read a new article which described Himeka's condition as an "adjustment disorder" rather than an eating disorder. It didn't give much detail, but implied more of an anxiety issue.

Crappy camera work (who points AWAY from the guy doing a guitar solo?!), bad sound work, the MC's were cringe in the beginning, dead crowd....BUT.... It says a lot about the energy, the absolute fun the girls, Rob and the Kamiband were having, to make this performance still be this good. You should check out a performance where Su sang Painkiller and Breaking the Law with Chad from Red Hot Chili Pepper on the drums, mostly fancam vids, but it's totally worth it, especially at the very end. 🤘🦊🤘

Babymetal gets so much hate in the metal community and I've never understood why. Also fun fact, Joakim from Sabaton was involved in a babymetal song in a round about way and the sound fucking goes hard. Song is Oh Majinai and it's so cool that Joakim was involved. He mentioned in an interview that he and the band supported babymetal in one of their tours.

You shouldn't be coming down on the cameramen for not showing Moa's guitar solo, I'm sure the camera was all over that solo and it would have been the decision of the director or switcher to be on the other shots. To be fair that solo would have been Takayosi playing his ESP Snapper all day long with Moa mimicking him. Moa can play the guitar a but not like that.

    • @BemusingBill
      @BemusingBill  Před 5 měsíci +3

I see, so it was a decision based on that. I get it. Funny thing is, that song originally has no solo. But you know what I mean! I just did a Metallica song with Cliff flying on that bass while Kirk and James are just chugging on the low E and THAT'S what the camera stayed on.
Still, I loved it when they came out with those guitars! 🤘🦊🤘
