    Used a 966 as a teen working for the neighbour up the road.Great tractor. Did have the larger rear tires and no duals. Seemed to have endless power and trouble free.

    If my history is correct. The 966 and 1066 both have 414 motors the 1066 being turbocharged. The 986 has a 436 motor ( no turbo) like the 1486 ( has turbo) now the 986 motor does have a different head than the 1486 motor

    The cabs are nicer on an 86 series and newer. But I always hated how the levers are on an 86 series getting in and out. On a 66 series that is easier getting on and off. I always liked the 66 series a lot better as long as they are open station.

    • @SilverGleaner
      @SilverGleaner Před 4 lety

      IH always ran kinda small axles. I worked at the local AC dealership and one of my best friends worked at the local IH dealership and he said they kept in stock an axle for 1066's. A comparable AC would be a 7030 and that axle was 3-5/8", replaced by the 7040 a year later with 3-3/4" axles and later the 7045 that had an optional long axle with 4" diameter like all 7080's had. Later I worked parts for a CaseIH shop when the 66/86 series were still a main horse for smaller farmers. I saw a lot of rear end work on 10's and up. Great engines though. I've heard farmers who have owned both AC and IH say if AC would have used an IH engine it would have been the perfect tractor.

    Moving the cab forward is what made the 86 series ride so bad on rough ground. The cab according to my neighbor was designed by farmers wifes that hated their husbands. The 88 series fixed alot of the issues and finally a hydraulic clutch, a transmission you could shift after letting the clutch out and disengaging again. Imothe magnums fixed all of the problems except the cab filter over the back window.
