Adoulin's music is S tier. It really made the feel of the expansion feel like an old city that is in the midst of a revitalization. And the big bad's base music is otherworldly.
None in CoP static back then was forcing anyone to click faster on CSs. It was super long adventure anyway and I don't know a single person rushing it.
Lion looked like her model belongs in a different game. She just didn't really match the art style of FFXI. COP was hard but it created very tight bonds between the members of your COP static that lasted for years even long after the group split and people went their separate ways in the game.
One of the biggest issues with CoP was the level cap zones for sure. It really limited the zones to just the storyline and they could of added endgame content to the promy zones.
As somebody who has done Chains of Promathia probably 6+ times at this point, I absolutely agree. While I understand WHY they did it, I really think it would have just been more fun overall it it was all uncapped, even when the cap was 75. The worst part about progressing thru COP was having to keep all that terrible low level gear around.
cop did a good job of splitting up the leveling to do actual content otherwise 90% of the game was basically standing around killing the same mob over and over again.
I would honestly swap Rhapsodies and ToAU. ToAU was hands down the best expansion. 3 new (at the time) jobs, amazing story, new (at the time) areas to explore, Nyzul Isle and Salvage... what did that expansion not have? I and many other people would of played an official classic 11 server if SE did it. But alas, they missed a golden opportunity for their 20th anniversary lol
CoP not S-tier? If you played it when it dropped it was one of the hardest and most rewarding game experiences a person could have. Since being nerfed, it’s not as good, but in its time CoP easily matched or exceeded most other XI scenarios.
There are items from mini expansions that are bis still and not really niche, especially for COR. -5 Phantom roll recast pants, -5 Quick draw recast body but also for BST -15 Call Beast recast body or PUP pet: -10% DT, 5% haste head :)
As a COR main I tell anyone who wants to try the job to grab the Moogle legs for the -5 roll time. They ask if it makes a big difference, it super does. Can't say the same for the Quick Draw recast, give up too much power and they come up fast enough as is w/ group 1 merits.
QuickDraw recast is for situation where the point of QuickDraw is to apply Empy feet bonus for nukes, which is one of the most important usage of QuickDraw in endgame.
@@SageAtoreis I'd be fine w/ that if Rune Fencers would turn around during fights so their enspell dmg doesn't potentially soak up the 30% element buff. Until then 30-40k earth shots!
It was really cool hearing a more gameplay-focused perspective from someone who actually played through the expansions! I do have a couple of thoughts about stories though. The story of Zilart took me a while to come around on... I actually had it dead last out of the stories for a while, but there's actually some really cool and unique storytelling in there. To my knowledge, Zilart introduced the Artefact storylines for all the jobs, and I think it was Masato Kato exercising his skill at worldbuilding and his panoramic writing style. Good to hear that his individual mini-expansions had good writing too, I guess that's my impetus for finally finishing them! I also think Adoulin was a nice homage to Hironobu Sakaguchi's spirit of the series. It's very anti-colonisation and environmentalist, and I think the main dropped ball was the Velkk and their visual coding. Some of the Coalitions working against August are meant to be unethical; although I suppose it is annoying that you "have" to work with them to get your Ergons and unlock the Directives epilogue stories. I'm still going, so maybe the epilogue addresses that! Have a like for the algorithm gods.
Mmm... I feel like a lot of the Zilart rating is nostalgia. Zilart was super important for the game at the time, but I can't see rating its content or endgame above some of the other expansions. I'm not a fan of the Three Kings HNMs system and Sky had its flaws too - for instance Ullikummi was heavily botted for a long time until SE patched its spawn method years later (during ToAU era), and that gated arguably the two most important Sky bosses in Byakko and Kirin. I think ToAU in particular had a much broader and more diverse set of endgame activities between Assault, ZNMs, Salvage, Einherjar, and Nyzul Isle. (I also think CoP's music is way better than Zilart's, but that's personal preference.) I agree with Abyssea's rating largely. Even as someone who enjoyed Abyssea, I think it sucked that it invalidated most of the game before it - not just the endgame, but also the levelling experience post-30. I will say that literally all of the music you'd hear in Abyssea was new, though it definitely got pretty old after a while given how much of it you'd hear in endgame at the time. (The zones had an okay new ambient theme, the battle theme was IMO one of the best in the game, and the final boss had a pretty good new theme for their battle.) It did have an overarching story that was a little bit interesting in premise, but barebones; obviously not the focus of the content. Overall, aside from maybe swapping ToAU and Zilart, I think I otherwise agree with the tier list.
Abyssea was meant to be one last party where it makes you OP and gives you easy to obtain super weapons so people could feel like they "won" FFXI before they quit and switched to FFXIV. Notice how the Empyrean stages were relatively easy right up until they decided to rebuild FFXIV and realized that FFXI would need to last for at least a few more years. The last two stages were released after that and that was when they got ridiculous.
um...no I tried to do one and failed took way to long to unlock one cause they insisted on you doing a dam zone boss like 50 times just for the 1 item you needed for next weapon unlock. and then you still got 5 more stages left
Imagine teasing prime weapons for 3 years only to severely spike the difficulty for the final stage and encourage people to hold off on progression, reducing testing and information.

I do wish they added an expansion that visits the Mithra's home country (the Matriarchate of Gha Naboh).
100% agreed on how uninspired Abyssea was. I think that was when SE kind of checked out on high end production of the game tbh
