Backstory: Twitch Streamers created a gaming PC company (Starforge Systems) a few months ago, and the initial launch did not go very well.
Fast forward to today- Linus Tech Tips, a very well known PC reviewer on CZcams, does a video review of their new PC.

Linus was harsh but fair, and ultimately said the very young company was as good as any of the established players. He highlighted how Starforge had already fixed a bunch of issues and said that he was confident others were going to be resolved.
I reckon Starforge got orders after this review.
Exactly my thoughts. Not as harsh as other people made it out to be. A few mistakes were found, but overall, I think this can be beneficial for them. Linus holds a lot of respect.
edit: I removed the word "harsh" from the title. I personally think a few parts of the review were a bit harsh (but fair), but I don't think the review overall was harsh.
Where was the harsh? A couple of minor faults, couple of things he wasn't sure about then when he realised why a certain decision was made was either OK or praised them. I didn't hear anything harsh at all.
@@skechyassmofo Something like the LED issue with the usb drive was something he himself said it wouldn't affect the performance of the PC but shouldn't have happened in the first place. That was harsh but fair because he said if they're going to be a professional SI, embarrassing stuff like that can't be happening.

Yeah I mean it's your typical shit prebuilt. It's just not as shit as a lot of other prebuilds out there.
Linus was even nice to them since he could have tried to turn the pc on without checking the cpu power supply cord first and include the footage if it would happen to not boot, that would make it seem much worse. Instead he said that it would probably still boot like that when he really couldn't have been 100 percent sure. That proves that he made this video in good faith imo.
@@Dire_Hit pre builds have gotten way better than what they use to. I have a pre build bc I'm not into building a PC and my pre build is awesome and runs fantastic.. only 1,800 but it's great. I don't give a fuck about having everything brand new as soon as it comes out 😅. I don't have 5K laying around to spend on having a bit more FPS and fancy water cooling bullshit. I have 300 FPS on Valorant and 180-220 on DayZ 😅 those are my games.. if you need more FPS than that your probably shit at games anyways lmao
you don't have money laying around yet you purchased a pre-built which is LESS bang for your buck as compared to building it yourself. x to doubt

Remember, companies pay consulting groups millions of dollars to do what Linus did for them. This is by far not only free advert but a free fix these things to win.
Plus it's coming from an experienced source that's pretty trustworthy, not just a random PR group. That alone means way more because you know a guy like Linus will scrutinize everything & go through with a fine-tooth comb to find even the tiniest of issues.

I feel like Soda missed the point and value of the switches not being connected right. Most people who buy PC's aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to them. So whereas its easy for him to notice and fix mistakes. Its not easy for the average consumer. Those connections that weren't connected would have gone unnoticed in the common eye.

Yes, if you spend more money for a pre build it's because you can't do it yourself. Otherwise you DIY... so the extrat money is for putting the connector the right way.
Exactly. Something miniscule could be un-diagnosable to a computer noob and think the whole computer is ruined. Then they either try a refund of something perfectly fine and it leaves a bad rep for everyone. Or they take it to a PC Repair store and give the guy 60-100$ just to go through and look at it. Plus more time wasted and travelling with a PC is a no-no. It's just the little things.
imagine the 2 cpu connectors were slightly more pulled out just a teensy bit more than what they were, they'd get a cpu error on boot, complain when all that had to be done is the cable. There are legit customers so clueless that they refuse to look into it, and will ask for a fix asap.

Linus was incredibly fair & honestly Starforge system came out fairly unscathed. Just look to his past “Secret Shopper” series to see how bad system integrators can actually fuck up. Ngl the vid from linus was just straight up free advice for asmon and starforge from a guy who's been part of that industry for god knows how many years.

The main thing I agree with Linus about that had a lot of pushback from the streamers is the plastic peels. Sure, leave the one on the glass. But the ones on the components inside? The type of person to buy a prebuilt isn't gonna be confident enough to open the PC and start grabbing at stuff off the rip. Peel the cooler and other stuff so the customer doesn't have to worry about it and heat/performance isn't affected

Although the customer will have to open the case because of the expanding phone, I agree with you that the peals should be removed beforehand. The customer is probably not going to notice small peals like that within the system.
You know for as much flak as you can give streamers it is kinda refreshing that you get to see the heads and faces of the businesses actually TALK and react to criticism unlike majority of other businesses.

Also not all investors listen but that's a nitpick. Successful businesses obviously need to adapt.
@Bingus Investors are interested in the costumers, but the people who run the companies can and do hide stuff from investors. In this case their roles are reversed, the investors are the public figure while the people that run the company are in the back.

They could probably fix the logo issue with a very minor tweak, just break the outline at the bottom as they have at the top so that the 'hammer' is not merged into it, that way the 'balls' will look square rather than just the top semi-circle.
Nothing harsh about it, linus giving fair criticism and streamers taking it like they should. Pretty much what should be expected from adults.

Not really they were kind of treating the whole thing as a joke to deflect the criticism. They were putting the positive things he said and the negative things way out of proportion. It's to be expected because they have the stakes in the success of the product but still. It feels like a get rich quick scheme using their fans and hoping they're not smart enough know they're just paying out the ass for the branding.

The peeling thing is fun yes, but remember, people buying pre built pcs typically don’t know what to do/what to keep on! So if they see something is on the pc, there’s a good chance they will not take that price off unless the instructions say so!

To correct the cock-n-balls effect, all that would need to be done is put thin lines defining that the shaft is a hilt and thin lines to define the lower sack so that it stands out from the "arms" of the emblem, so that the sack can finally register in the human brain as Thor's hammer instead of Thor's balls. The neato aspect is that by doing that it will create a nice effect that makes the hammer seem like it is floating. Anyway, a simple fix advice from a digital artist. USS Cock-n-Balls has a nice ring to it though. 😂
Linus is never harsh. He's always realistic! He's the actual guru of PC reviews. The streamers reacted a lot better than I might've expected, too. They're acting like they're being reviewed by an expert, and holding themselves accountable for their losses as well as their wins.

I think the peeling thing is nice for some people. But really, majority of people buying a pre-built aren't gonna open the case up to peel the sticker thing off their CPU block. The vast majority of people buying a pre-built are gonna take it out of the box, plug it in, and go. That stuff should be removed by the SI regardless of how satisfying you think it is. The only exception would be stuff that is peelable on the exterior.
It might not matter. Heard a live streamer's BR team mate admit he never took the foam out of the tower in his first PC. Thus kept wondering why it would overheat.
So peeling that sticker off beforehand isn't going to help some people who 'take it out of the box, plug it in, and go'. Maybe a small 3x5 card of such things included might help.
I would say, leave the film on the glass since that's pretty straightforward as to why but the film on internal components probably should be peeled.
It’s amazing how much influence Linus has on this industry now, his word is gold when he praises you and you will get more sales but honestly if he was not satisfied with starforge I and manyyy others would probably turn to another company. And they now that, hence they had all of their owners react to it. And ofc this influence will grow soo much more now because of LTT Labs.

It's hard to impress Linus and first impression is all that matters. He is here to drops some advice for next generation PC build company.
I was very sceptical about watching a multi react video, since every other just put fcs together in corners and leave it, but it was VERY well done.
Keep it going, this kind of content is gonna be hard to manage(strikes, claims etc.), but if you do it right, this is amazing.
Something this video failed to portray is that Asmongold actually said during this stream that he would "talk to his people" to fix the issues that Linus brought up. So they seemed to have taken the feedback the way it was intended by Linus, and therefore can hopefully make better decisions in the future. Overall, great video, thank you!

The plastic peel off is an important part of buying new stuff. I returned a guitar last year, because it was a re-box with no plastic (and no discount).
I watched this reaction after watching Linus react to a hardware guy test his screwdriver against the competition. Seeing people get this stressed over having their products reviewed shows how much they care about them.
This is the first video I’ve seen of yours, the editing is absolutely amazing and you should be proud of yourself.
Linus is correct on a lot of the little things about this company and one of their top teir computers, this is also a great video on what they can do to improve the end user experience. He's also correct in that Asmon, Soda, Esfand, Emi and the others can have their reputations suffer as a result of something going wrong with a PC from their company. People will blame the public face(s) of the company, they don't care about the people in the back room building the PC they will blame the people who represent the company. Asmon, Esfand, Emi, Soda all have to make sure that when something goes wrong with the company they founded and represent that it gets addressed or both their reputation and that of their company will suffer. Better to address these small issues now and put policies in place to make sure they're shipping a quality product, which I believe they are, and Asmon and Esfand both seem to agree that these issues should and will be addressed. Free advice from Linus is great to have, he's been in the PC industry for a long while and knows his stuff, companies pay a lot of money for what they got for free.
They should blame the sponsors though. If you go out of your way to endorse a product you know damn well your reputation is on the line if it fails or succeeds. Would anyone endorse a product saying this product is great without thinking that that means people are listening to my opinion and if my opinion ends up being an extreme misrepresentation of the product that people won't trust me anymore. No one can be that naive.

I actually think they have a bright future. Asmon isn’t a guy who cares for money and not satisfying his customers. I truly believe they’re trying their best they’re still in the beginning steps though so there’s bound to be mistakes along the path.

You need to remember to include all power cables for your power supply. I would send the computer back if I didn’t get all of them.
You get the separate psu/mobo boxes with every extra cable. Some pre builders dont include the psu box but put all of the cables in the mobo box
As an enthusiast and builder, I am def. with Linus on all his points about the hardware, as well as add a few of my own:
- Another 011D.....boring
- Agree with the PSU choice; If I'm spending $3500 USD on a system I'm expecting a like 1200w MINIMUM
- Connectors not being fully seated is no excuse
- THROW EXTRA CABLES AWAY??? Dude you obv know nothing about building PC's; you NEVER throw away extra cables, EVER
- "What does that mean?" Basically facepalmed....the diagram is literally right beside the header on how to plug the front I/O cables in
- The fans on the side as intake are necessary in this case as it's large and needs the fans to circulate all the hot air in that big of a case; no acrylic bullsh*t please
Get the ones building these some training and you guys will be good to go; just a few small things to fix. Def not garbage, just needs some TLC
I’m glad they do acknowledge when something happens that shouldn’t. I will say, when I got my first pc (I’m not super knowledgeable but ik a lot more than when I had my first pc) I would’ve not know about the pins, and the other stuff being plugged in backward and probs would’ve spent hours trying to figure it out if tech support couldn’t help
3k and cables not even connected properly. That's unacceptable. If I'm paying 3k, the pc had better be in PERFECT condition

One of the things that matters most to be when buying anything is product support. People are going to mess up but if a company stands behind their product, then I can appreciate that and will usually still buy it.
the fact that Linus reviewed this and other companies pay a fat premium for a review. they really need to take advantage of this. stocks probably went through the roof!

I would just like to say, amazing job with the edit.
The peeling the plastic thing I look at it on both sides. There's going to be the group that knows what to look for, some that do but may overlook due to excitement, and the group that's new that has no idea. Remember some of those components get hot. I'd agree with Linus on peeling probably peeling the internal parts but leave the plastics on the glass/Plexi glass doors and front to keep from scratching and damage and give that "satisfaction" of peeling something new.
My first thought when I heard about the plan to sell PC's was that they had some sort of evil scheme going on, because who in their right mind thinks this is a good idea otherwise.
You left out issue about not getting windows key with PC and OS being pre-configured.
If ur a pc manufacturer, DO NOT remove the peel off. it is the one thing i am paying alot of money for.

I know this is 5 months old, but I got an Elite Pro Starforge and I couldn't be happier! It was pricey, but with everything being the latest specs. I'd pay it anyway. Highly recommend! Will update if anything pops up. But happy so far!

peeling the things off is fun but they are forgetting one major issue, you don't open your iPhone to peel off random plastics, you shouldn't have to open your pc to peel off random plastics either. If you do open ur pc then why not build it yourself at that point

Yeah... Peeling off stuff is nice, but all those should be marked really well. Inside and otside. I just peeled something off my TV 4 years after getting it.
Yeah, outside case peel is obvious to a buyer. Inside like that, it's going to be missed.
Inside the case if missed can be bad some of those parts get really hot. Most experienced PC owners may get it all some might be too excited and miss something. And new PC owners might not know and just fire it up after taking the packing out cuz they want to get going on their new system. Just looking at it on both sides.

DIY saves you money if you get parts that don't fail on Box Open, it's not as common but it was very common for a while to get DOA parts especially video cards and Mobo's, If you don't fry them yourself plugging it in backwards or not firmly enough and having an ARC fry you

Hoestly, all in all i think Linus was very fair and Starforge came out pretty good. Mostly nitpicks and human error, which is to be expected if something is assembled by a human. Also Asmon and the bunch took it pretty well and got some laughs out of it. This is wholesome content if i've ever seen some.

Peeling stuff off is fine for the outside of a case but Everything that lives inside should be good to go out of the box with as little user interaction as possible.
a company like this should have a quality control, checking if everything's right before they ship it. now apparently even quality control missed out a few things. its easy to detect and fix for this linus tech guy, but not for others. i mean.. forget about seeing any loose connectors. who would open up their PC as soon as it arrived?
oh.. and by the way, those guys almost missed that Power LED faulty too. it just goes unnotice. its a fucked up sure, but its surely very hard to notice those little things, or... well.. they should have those notebook with checklists right? after this, they surely will include those LED lights in there.
That title was a clickbait. It's unfortunate that realistic titles don't get nearly as many views as clickbait ones. Linus approved big time and just pointed to a few mistakes to help them out.

Then you have soda over here like "Stop saying it's ran by twitch streamers! It's nottttt!" and getting upset at everything. Very clear difference in the way they handle business and approach this business. One of those aforementioned streamers will be in it for the long haul, the other will run when the ship starts to sink and never look back.
