- WEAR HEADPHONES, the video’s music does not sound good without them, sorry.
Anyway, I figured it was about time I did another update on this tank. Everything has been going smoothly, and I haven't had any problems thus far.
Many people were concerned that crabs would eat the geckos, but I've had zero injuries. The crabs and geckos will sit adjacent to each other and nothing will happen.
Here are links to a few of things I use in the tank:

IMPORTANT, the music doesn’t sound so great without headphones so I’d definitely recommend them!!
Oh thx
Hey there fellow CZcams-ist the music sounded fine the audio just needed turning up 20% or so it come with wearing headphones to edit don't worry everyone has done it and its better than blowing out everyones eardrums like I once did haha. Anyway loving the videos
Nice
Personally I don't really care about the music. Nothing really special just a drum beat on loop with a tiny bit of keyboard sounds. No need for headphones.
@@OliverPickard the music makes me want to go to sleep.
That family of fern closes at night to preserve moisture. Folding/curling the leaves reduces surface area and conserves water. When the sun comes back out they unfurl to once again perform photosynthesis
Do you know what it is?
@@michellepetersen6597 and the fact that these are found in areas of high humidity and very high moisture is even worse for his argument, doesn't really need to conserve water if it's basically living in water
@@erinhallmakes777 It’s a Biophytum species, probably Biophytum Sensitivum.
@@benshaw3891 Doubt it is B. sensitivum as the Geckos would stimulate the closure response that species has...Would be curious if Dr. Plant has noted that response in this plant?
@@talonjuel2098 thought the same. Especially: why conserve water at night when there is no sun and no transpiration.
Could it be a mimosa species?
OK, no. Biophytum it is
So let me GET this straight. You are telling me that I have lived for 31 years and COULD have had a jungle-in-a-glass-tank in my MY life this WHOLE time? Some people just know how to live better than others lol
😂😂😂😂😂 You’re not lying.
Aren't the lizards scary?
@@rme1383 what is scary about them? They dont even have teeth and they are tiny as fuck, they literally CANNOT hurt you.
@@rme1383 What Geckos scary ? lmao
@@puregameplay7916 I have heard that their tail is poisonous. Cockroaches don't bite and are harmless but they are creepy and scary
Imagine yourself being 1 inch tall, then find yourself lost inside this paludarium that's occupied by monsters in water, monsters on land!
That makes for a great film idea where a human somehow shrinks to like you said, 1 inch tall and is put in there haha
@@EFCDKZ Its called "Honey, I shrunk the kids"
There is a video game called "grounded" it's a similar concept. You're 1 inch tall trying to survive in a suburban backyard
There's a whole side story about this scenario in the show Solar Opposites. One of the kids shrinks people and puts them in a huge terrarium in his room, it's like a miniature dystopian society. It's actually my favorite part of the show.
@@AZ-rg3rf i believe there’s another one called ‘ant bully’
Bro I just found this guy 30 min ago and he’s already worthy of being watched while eating my chips. So entertaining and interesting your content is.
I was literally shoving a chip in my mouth when I read this comment 👏🏾
For anyone wondering the mini palm tree is a Biophytum. The seeds are available online and in my experience, as well as many others, they are easy to sow and care for in terrariums.
ThankS! 👍
Yes!
I got some and planted them a couple weeks ago, at what point do I move them to the tank? Or could I even just put the seeds right in the tank to grow in there?
can I grow them outside of a tank as a normal pot plant too?
thx so much
Amazing setup! I'd love to see a video tutorial on how to set something like this up, or a video explaining the upkeep tasks you need to do to keep it healthy. 😊🌱
I would also love to see this.
Yes please
great idea! he posted how to build one on youtube
That's would be so cool 😎
@@avidjshulk4916 please yeah 🥺
The reason for the mini palm closing its leaves at night:
The leaves of plants that use C3 photosynthesis absorb sunlight and carbon dioxide during the day, performing photosynthesis while the sun is out. But when the sun goes down, they can't do photosynthesis anymore, so they close their stomata to avoid losing excess water during the night.
Plus it is a good mechanism to avoid grazers like insects for some spieces of plants. I don't know if that is the case for this one though.
Stomata close without the leaves having to move. They're microscopic pores. There is something different going on here. For one thing, I think those might not even be leaves. If I'm correct, they are fronds and that plant is a tree fern.
I was wrong. It is an herbaceous plant, not a fern. It does look like a super tiny tree fern though
I have never seen anything like this outside of a national geographic episode. Really amazing to have something like this in your room, thank you!
That’s cool
You have such a talent. The fact the babies keep getting *almost* out of control just goes to show how successful your tanks are😂 you're guna have your hands full! Keep up the good work🦎🌿💚
With mourning geckos you could put them in a moldy box and they would still have babies.
You look like you have white priveledge
😍😍😍
this truly is one of the most beautifull tanks I've ever seen on YT. Congratulations !
Agreed!! One of the most beautiful I’ve seen too.
Check out Troy Goldberg, SerpaDesign and Ferret Wonderland for amazing things like this if you haven’t already
I'm impressed by the care you put in creating such a beautifully crafted AND balanced environment.
It's been years since I subscribed to a channel halfway through one video. This channel is something truly special. May the algorithm bless you with well-deserved views. This is fascinating stuff.
I really appreciate it!
This is the coolest thing i have ever seen in my entire life. You’re obviously very educated and talented at your craft! Very impressive!
Thank you!
Yeah! It’s quite impressive that he made all this in a year, with predator, and prey! Btw @Dr. Plants , is it self-dependent?
Why u changing water? I thought u Build in a Filter?
@@manuelz.849 water changes are still necessary even with a filter or plants, same goes for aquariums. They just make so the water quality is way better and thus you have to do less water changes
Fun fact, sunflowers also do something similar at night, since they don't have multi-sectioned leaves like the palm, they don't "close" but they do droop and get almost stiff, when the leaves hug the stalk. Its a way to store and conserve energy while not having as much light as during the day. It's so fun to watch over time-lapse as well as experience it in person. This is a beautiful set-up, and you can tell you have such immense passion for it. We need more people like you on this planet!
This makes me so happy. I wish I could show you video that I took of a tiny thriving community of mushroom that I discovered in a hollowed out spot on the side of a log....it was magnificent, and I was lost in it for a while. One of my favorite things in nature that I've come across in my entire life.
The amount of knowledge from this video and comments in this channel is amazing! What a great community.
This is my favourite vivarium I’ve seen in a very long time! The diversity of animal life and the way the miniaturized plants form a replica rainforest landscape is deeply enchanting. As an aside, mourning geckos have always been on the top of my list for when I’m living in a stabile enough place to keep larger vivariums - their little chirps and Jurassic-like appearance are amazing, as is their sociality and their ability to reproduce without mating.
Beautiful, makes me miss my aquarium, but the temperature isn't stable enough...loved sitting in front of it and watching them go about. Great video.
I found your channel because I was trying to get greenhouse cabinet inspo for just plants, but you’ve got me rethinking my plan. This looks amazing and is so interesting to be able to just observe all the life, no matter how small.
The leaflets close during the night and open in the morning, this is called nyctinastic movement. And also I just wanted to let you know that your passion is tremendous and your projects are incredible!!! Thank you for the updates and entertainment/inspiration!!!
Thank you for your support and the info!
From the Greek word Nixta...or Nichta..means night
oh so when *I* have cannibalism in MY room it's "illegal" and "a matter of national security"
🤣🤣🤣
Better Call Saul
This is the coolest thing ever! It looks like you went to a cannibal jungle just scooped it put in your tank then got your own little ecosystem. That is just amazing
I absolutely can't wait to see more updates on this tank. 🥰 Love love love this series so far
Dr.Plants I found your channel a few days ago and I’m obsessed with what you made ! It’s amazing. And in the future hope to see a video discussing more on the plants that are in the paludarium. Would love to learn what plants worked best in the environment.
I enjoyed this video so much! I immediately subscribed. The pipes that spray out misty rain is awesome. I’ve seen your videos before and this tank is by far the best I’ve seen. Great work ❤️
I’d absolutely love something like this in my room….. but wouldn’t even know where to start. It’s very pleasing to the eye 👍🏼 excellent job bro ✌🏼
Thanks! I actually have a step by step guide on how I built it. It’s my first video, feel free to check it out!
Took the words right out of my mouth
Underrated content. You are phenomenal.
I’m sure some of you guys already know about this but there’s this really cool plant that I have been growing for a while called a touch me not (memosu peduca) and upon timulation will immediately retract leaves ina. Sequential pattern. Very mesmerizing. Be careful as they are a weed so growing with others could be hazardous.
These rain shots are fucking sick and satisfying
My cousin and I rewatch your videos all the time, and it's so cool to see practical biology help build these awesome tanks!
Happy to hear that!
I’m so happy I’ve found this channel! Super interesting and informative, I could watch Dr.Plants make eco systems all day!
That is absolutely amazing! You must have been doing this for years, as you’re very knowledgeable and have such a variety of life in there.
I've always wanted to make something like this but could never find a real life example of it! This video definitely made my day I look forward to seeing more of it. :D
Amazing Paludarium! I would love to hear more about the maintenance and upkeep work thats needed.
This is so effing dope! Dude this is unbelievably educational and colorful. Talk about taking it to a whole new level. Knowledge is priceless. Thank you man
I think that the only thing it miss is an ASMR of the tank and then we're good. Rain storm, Gekos calling, water running. It would be extremely relaxing listen it.
Thanks for your amazing, entertaining, educational and funny videos!
Thank you!
Seriously thank you for making such great quality content. I really appreciate the time you put into this
This is the coolest thing I’ve seen on the tube in quite a while. Must be so nice to stare into from time to time. Great work!
I can’t decide which is better, the amazing tank or the amazing camerawork/editing. Bravo!
Thank you!!!
im setting up my own vertical paludarium, this video helped inspire me to get back into reptile keeping. your how to buld video helped alot too. Keep up the amazing work!
🤗
👍
This video is so beautifully framed, lit, and edited. I found it so soothing, which I needed desperately this evening. Thank you for the hard work. Liked and subscribed!
Why thank you!
This tank is turning out absolutely amazing! So gorgeous! Have a great day
Never thought I'd be interested in paludariums (had to Google that lol, I know it's mentioned in the video but can't find it again) but this guy made it happen with his amazing videos. Would really love to pick this up as a hobby when I'm finally settled.
This is extremely calming ! i´d like to have a full room like this to go to when i need peace....
Absolutely love your content. All YT searches for Paludariums result in videos that walkthrough a build.
I just want to see the ecosystem doing it's thing. These videos give me exactly that
Thanks for the update on the Cannibal Jungle! Everything is beautiful and the critters look great.
This Paludarium is the coolest one I’ve ever seen!!! I have to build one now! It’s so awesome that all of your species are reproducing! I subscribed because of this video and now have watched every one you’ve posted in one day! Keep these awesome vids coming!
My friends and I are obsessed with your tank, it's so amazing to see this little world you've built! You've really inspired me to get into vivaria.
Awesome!!!
Keep makin theses vivariums pls theyre so nice to watch
I love this enclosure! I have a crested gecko of my own but his enclosure is no where near this beautiful. And a recommendation I could make for a new species in the jungle is dart frogs. I’m not sure how they do with the crabs but I know they do amazing with mourning geckos. Hope this helps
So cool to me how you can just put a jungle in a box. I sometimes wonder what it is like for the tiny things in there, and how their home is like. I reckon it feels massive to those tiny geckos!
a-maz-ing, this is a great video and the animals are so cute!! you’ve done a great job on it! cant wait to see more
Might be the coolest enclosed video I’ve ever send especially with the water section and great editing, love it❤️
This is a great micro environment! The proof is in how happy and healthy all your critters are in there that they're reproducing for you. Very cool ! Thanks for sharing....maybe some day I'll give something like this a try myself ! 😎👍
Wow! This is pretty cool! I’ve been an aquarium hobbyist for years, but this is really neat!
i subscribed, liked and watched your all videos on the CANNIBAL JUNGLE. Fascinating stuff!
Just found out about your channel yesterday. Started buying everything today. AB-SO-LUTELY LOVE your paludarium
I really want to attempt this but need to do a LOT of research like this boss. Amazing and such a peaceful live artwork.
Let me know if you got any useful resource that can be used 😁😁
Thanks in advance
This is like the coolest shit I’ve ever seen in terms of indoor plants. Amazing work man and very cool video. Thank you.
Wow, that's one of my favorite videos on YT!
I see myself following your journey with much curiosity and enjoyment :)
Intellectual, Informative, Inspiring.. that video footage..beautiful..
thanks for sharing
I love watching your videos. Keep it up!
These videos are so great, and super interesting. You certainly have talent, keep up the work!!
Thank you!
I've learned 1000s of months in only two short videos. Thank you.
This is absolutely stunning to watch. Bravo.
It's so cool how interesting an ecosystem this small can be
I swear, if I ever come over a lot of money, Ill happily pay you to build me one of these Paludariums, it looks so fricking good!
Love these videos, look forward to seeing more of them! :D
Not just the tank but the editing and production is great as well.
Hey Dr. Plants! I love your videos! I just binged all of your videos today
That's very mesmerizing. I wonder what kind of noise or sounds one can hear at night ☺️...
Thank you! It is actually silent at night. If it was loud, I would definitely relocate it from my bedside LOL
@@TheDrPlantsis the pump also this silent?
@@TheDrPlants Thanks for answering. Your achievement is well appreciated.
@@markuss.7798 It’s not completely silent but it’s fairly quiet
Love this video!I wouldn’t mind falling asleep to a tank like this!
I would love to see a video more in depth about tank maintenance. Like how often are they fed and what do you do for all the animals. Great content!!!
Wow I got to say that's amazing and knowing that you built that and recorded it and edit the video and everything I think you did an amazing job 👍🏾
Please make more, this is a gift for my eyes
Thank you for all the work, and love, you put into this. May we have some more, please!

Fantastic video! Ive just found a new hobby, never seen these before love your tank mate, Very clear and knowledgeable commentary too. Top video. thankyou. Gona have a look through your others. Buzzin👍👍
bro this is fascinating, great job your work and skill really shows.
The misting system is so satisfying to watch and listen to! Good job ❤️
Absolutely astonishing! Great work dude!
I love your videos man keep those cool vibes coming I use to have 3 whites tree frogs and sometimes feel like getting a tank again maybe with a geko or beerded dragon. The music in the back ground is very relaxing great job on the editing .
Thank you! I love whites tree frogs!
This looks so sick! Definitely inspired to try this myself! I shudder to think of how much one’s energy bill would be with the lights, misting system, etc. going 24/7 tho lol 💀
I just know the sounds of the Paludarium are so soothing at night time. 😩😂 loving the content & looking forward to more videos!
It looks so beautiful ❤️ Also you're awesome for saving the lil baby geckos 🥺
Awesome and detailed, love your videos, just found your channel today. Subscribed and awaiting more. Keep that style up, you found it👌
showed my mom this channel and now she's planning out her own vivarium
That’s beautiful. I love the variety of plants you chose. This by far surpasses any display I’ve seen at any aquarium. You should be setting up these gorgeous tanks for rich people 😆
Wtf they would have to take care of it
It's like a miniature primeval forest. Love it!
This is INSANE!!! without doubt the most stunningly beautiful thing I've ever seen 😲😲😲😲😍😍😍😍
We could all just be living in a huge tank in the dudes room
Bro that’s deep
Welcome to enclosed flat world theory. The only other thing needed is to use a flat panel screen for the sky running a 24 hour video of it from dawn, day, dusk, and a starry night.
If only
Could be a really small tank. If we are like atom sized in someone elses life. It could be like 50/50cm big.
I CLICKED AS SOON AS I SAW THE NOTIFICATION!!!
Just absolutely gorgeous!!! You do a good job because I can’t see any calcium buildup on the glass either.
I love everything about this! Amazing work 😍🌱
these tanks are better than anything i have seen and those geckos , oh god i do want them so bad
Man... this was inspiring!
I've been looking for some kind of activity to get into to help me cope with my longterm depression and caring for a bunch of little guys like this seems like just the thing! ❤️👍 Well time to watch your step by step guide while taking notes! Thanks for sharing your passion man, it's making a difference in my life so I hope that means something!
Thank you! It makes me so happy knowing these videos are actually helping people. If you have any questions on the build, don’t hesitate to ask!
@@TheDrPlants Oh I'll be sure to shoot ya some questions if they come up but so far I gotta say your initial guide was really well done, your explanations for why you did things the way you did & your advice on which products to use & why were all spot on and perfect for cutting out a bunch of questions I might've had.
Also thanks in advance for saving me from making my own garage smell like chemical death for days on end, I'll definitely be using the calk & foam in well ventilated areas and ideally try to find a couple days where I can leave my garage door open so I can minimize the indoor odor haha!
LOL I’m happy I could help!!!
Your videos are just epic. You make me want a tank so badly. I've always been an aquascaper and a terrarium builder. But you've taken this to an awesome level.💕🏆💯
The plant closes up to protect itself from the cold good sir. beautifull collection you have there.
Hey I love the setup at keep up the good work but I also wanted to suggest adding poison dart frogs if possible even tho they could eat the vampire crabs and take up to much room.I heard they get along with mourning geckos but not to much it vampire crabs. Itis up to you but I wanted to make a suggestion to you cause I think this tank could be even better.keep up the great work.
I definitely want to do dart frogs in a different setup! I do not think they would thrive with dart frogs. I think there would be to much competition for food and territory.
That is incredibly beautiful and I would love to have this set up in the bed room. Have you priced out the total cost? I assume you also have content regarding the construction aspects?
Truly a beautiful creation. Great job
Thanks! Without the animals, it cost around $1000 but you could definitely do it for cheaper. My first video shows step by step how I build this tank!
What is the size of the paludarium?
@@TheDrPlants would you also introduce some spiders and isopods ?
