  • Abandoned Ground Round - Elyria, OH. Closed several years ago along with several other restaurants right in this part of town. The lights are still on here. Who is paying this electric bill?!

My memories of The Ground Round ended in the early 80's when they closed the one locally. The restaurant had a different kind of vibe back then. They used to show silent comedy shorts, such as the Keystone Cops and Harold Lloyd, and it was the first restaurant I remember where they encouraged you to throw peanut shells on the floor. Good food back then, too. It's weird to think of them now as just another average chain.

I forgot about ground round. I can hear my mom‘s voice saying we are going there for dinner. Not that particular restaurant, they had worn in central PA back in the 70s or 80s. Used to be a big deal back then. I’m trying to remember in my head where it was located in my town. Maybe one of these days it will come to me. But thank you for the memory, because I forgot all about this restaurant.

I loved Ground Round! It's strange to see the color of the building with blue 💙. The ones here in Ohio in Mentor and Willowick and Euclid had green signage! The kids paid what they weighed! Miss the popcorn and peanuts too! Great food back in the day and the kids had sundaes in a baseball cap too!!!

Definitely looks like the old Bennigan's! Haven't heard the name Ground Round for ages! We had plenty of them here in the mid-west! Always thought they were pretty OK. They all closed in the 80's or early 90's if I remember correctly.

This brought back some memories for me. I grew up in Bay Shore, New York, not that far from Ground Round restaurant. It closed many years ago, was demolished, and a TD Bank was built in its spot. To be honest, I never knew that the Ground Round was a restaurant chain.

Oh MG I remember going to this area when turning around during a family trip and we ate at this place and it was like the last year it was open and everything else was just shutting down and it looked pretty rough food was good though by the way I love your videos and if you have the time check out Niles Warren and Cleveland I know that's really weird but those are like my favorite places to see weird abandoned things I know Warren really well I explored them myself particularly old buildings factories and such

Our area in particular is a gold mine buildings that were built during the factory uprising or when America was actually making stuff type stuff back in the olden days in this buildings are still like time capsules but like pretty Rusty time capsules but the only thing is I know you don't prefer to trespass into the buildings

I live in Fargo, N.D. but spent 20 years living in Elyria as recently as 2019. The Midway Mall area may be the absolute deadest retail area in the entire country! There were more abandoned buildings than there were occupied when I left nearly 5 years ago.

That MacDonalds isn't particularly old. It used to be a MacDonalds combined with a BP gas station (making it the 1st ever MacDonalds ever that sold beer), then they tore that down and built a full sized MacDonalds, and I'd guess that one is less than 20 years old.

Yeah, I fully agree that the name change of the Indians to the Guardians was dumb. Then after that, the Redskins then became the Commanders, and over on the music side of things, the Dixie Chicks becoming just The Chicks and Lady Antebellum becoming just Lady A. I swear, people here in the 2020s have become such snowflakes and will find any little thing to complain about…
Anyways, talk about a blast to the past with seeing this closed Ground Round! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t really think they’re around anymore.

Wallie as a life long Cleveland fan when it comes to baseball. I wish that they would have just kept the name Indians, but you have to see why they relented and changed the name. It's kinda hard to keep supporting a logo that's a giant red faced Indian. It all came down to money and the team was going to loss sponsorship. Now I also believe that if one team cant have native American logos and team names then knowbody should. I live in Va and I like to use this as an example the college of William and Mary logo was the tribe with 2 little feathers on the logo. They had approval from the local tribes to do that. The NCAA ruled they needed to change it, but NCAA let's Florida state run around and do all the stuff they do and they have approval from their l ok cal tribes. The main reason is money Florida state makes money and W&M does not.
