BRINKLOW LANDSLIDE - When will the navigation be open?
Vložit

- With less than 2 weeks before CRT's (canal & River Trust) target date of 18 May 2024 how close are they to actually opening the navigation on the North Oxford canal?
We revisit the site of the landslide with Principal Project Manager Vaughan Felton to see exactly what they have been doing on site in the weeks since our last visit there with him back in March.
A friend of mine - Ru from Armada Narrowboats comes along to assist me with some drone footage.

Wow, this really shows the scale of the work involved. Thank you!
This is a very useful vlog! I think most people(myself included), would think something like "Just dig the dirt out of the canal and we're good to go". This was a massive landside!
Wow! What a process!
Thanks for the update. Well put together video too.
Wow that’s a big project. I’m glad that it can be fixed in a reasonable amount of time. And no nesting birds were harmed. Thanks for showing me how much damage there was and still is to be dealt with. I hope you’re having a great day and evening as well ☺️🙏 and love 💗 your 🧢 hat 😝 give NyX a big hug from me and say hello to Amanda as well 😊🌷
Thanks Della. Lovely comments as usual. X
Thank you ☺️
Great job on the Arial photo's and the whole report very hard to get info on this in California you guys get an Oscar from us for sure thanks for all your efforts.
Cheers Mike. 👍🏻
Thanks for the update....
What a massive undertaking
Great update. Such a huge project, and I think you’re right that no one appreciates the scale or the cost of something like this. They are doing a great job in getting the navigation open ASAP, working with all the rain we have had.
Absolutely 👍🏻. Thanks guys. x
Superb Wayne and Amanda. Boaters all over that area can now see the extent of the clean up and can now understand ehat a massive job it is and might now be able to plan alternative routes. Great ❤
Thanks Jan. X
Thanks for the update, awsome. Defo Braunston way then for us on sat but next time fingers crossed! X
Looking at it I think they’ll hit the target date. 👍🏻
Thanks for the update Wayne, such a massive task to undertake, financially and logistically!
You’re welcome guys. See ya at crick. X

Thanks for putting this up, it certainly makes the scale of the undertaking much clearer.
You’re welcome Mandella. Hope you’re well?
@@nbspudley out and about at last thanks. I hope we’ll see you at Crick.

Brilliant update, Wayne. Thanks so much for sharing. What a job!! Hope all okay with you both x (Clair & Chris)
Thank you We’re good - you?
Where’ve you got to?
@@nbspudley fab. I think we are somewhere on the other side of Leighton Buzzard 🤣. It's been a long but nice few days! Hoping to be in Hemel Hempstead for the weekend all being well 🤞.x
Thank you so much for this. We have hired a boat and our first choice for a voyage was to go north on the Oxford Canal Fingers crossed that this will clear up by the end of May.
I think you might be lucky 🍀 👍🏻 have a great holiday- let us know how it goes.
Great update 👍
Lovely shots from the drone.
Puts my video to shame over last few weeks visiting via kayak.
Been a long hail yo sort this but looking like they've got past the hardest obstacle...
Thanks for sharing..

You’re welcome Ronald. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 for no more rain & I think they will be on time. Thanks for your comments. 👍🏻
Thank you for update, looking forward to getting through on a maiden cruise on my new boat which is at Clifton Wharf
That’s great. Enjoy 😉
Wow.
Havent seen earth moving like this since the visit to Truck Expo, on HS2.
Must have cost CaRT a fortune?
Nice long reach digger.
I've just found this site.
Thanks for the tour and explanation of what's going on.
Makes what's going on the W and B canal look small.
Thanks Anthony - you’re welcome. 👍🏻
I see many of the problems with the machine access but wonder why conveyor technology was not used in part.
I have no idea Glyn - what does that entail?
@@nbspudley I was thinking that a conveyor belt might have required less machine access especially in wet weather but that was all. I am just interested in the professionals consideration of the range of possibilities.
Ka-ching ka-ching for the contractors.
No prevention means more ka-ching.
I don’t think anyone could have predicted the amount of rainfall this past winter & that seems to be the main reason for it happening.
@@nbspudley I must say, rainfall is very predictable, you plan for the worst. also did they only have one dumper on site? That would be dragging the job out having the excavator sat idle whilst the dumper drives across site. In my horror I thought the excavator looked like it was going to follow it to the spoil pile. Now that would be a criminal waste of money 🤣
