- An unsuspecting woman brought her dream truck, a 1960 Ford, to a known local shop for a complete, frame off restoration, and paid all the money for a quality job. What she got back was beautiful eye candy loaded with hidden and dangerous flaws.
The only way to make this one right is to pull it all apart and start over from scratch.

Glad you named names. Too often the perp is never called out. It should be easier to get compensated for frauds like that. I'm a redneck through and through, but I cut no corners when working on other people's stuff, nor will I even if they ask.
We've done videos like this before, but left out names because there was no clear and direct path back to the party who actually did the work. In this case, the owner of the truck had a direct one on one transaction with the people she contracted to do the work, and that's why we "named names".
@@UncleTonysGarage Absolutely agree. There has to be a direct line to the people that did the work. Again, goes back to why I wont cut corners even if they want me to. Clearly this lady didn't ask or pay for that but I have seen botched up crap that the customer actually asked for because they themselves are the deceiver. Shops just shouldn't do it, if the deceptive seller gets caught, they'll throw the shop under the bus in a second.

So I always give people the option to take their car anywhere else for a second opinion before I even start, and explain although there are cheaper methods, I refuse to use them. It's like buying the cheapest part you can find. It's the one that is guaranteed to fail.

I can see why she chose them to restore this truck their advertisement looks l legitimate. I wonder how many other customers receive the same treatment from Possum hollow garage ? We need more people exposing businesses like this. I suggest anybody who’s looking for people to restore your vehicles. You get more than one reference on their work or do it yourself.

Rather than making excuses for her the best solution would be for her to learn about what she's trying to do.
It isn't going to stop with classic cars, she's going to take this experience into every encounter with a technician and probably most well meaning advisers.
There's a lot of classic resellers fleecing the hopes and dreams out of their customers. These scam artists need to be brought to task. Such a hack job as shown in this video is, to me, criminal fraud.

I have done frame off for myself and when it comes to structure no compromises. Safety first. And I took my 65 Galaxie 2dr ht with a strong FE and C6 and 4.33 geared locker. Loud obnoxious and able to tear up the road. But my son and I had the car apart and hung the body from a tree with cribbing under it while we completely worked over the frame and suspension and replaced all of the bad parts, reconditioning the mounts and when body joined the frame we checked everything and got the body straight on the frame. It is so aerodynamic that you can roll down all 4 windows and get up to 100 mph with the 4.33s and still carry on a normal conversation without yelling. If we can do that in our backyard with a chain hoist to the front mounts and an engine hoist in the trunk . How the hell does anyone turn out an abortion like that? Are all TN shops crooked like that? I had a set of heads I worked and ported to perfection and I sent them to a guy I thought I could trust and when I asked when my heads would be ready, he said what heads? I saw them later in a magazine write up with the stamped ID marks I put on everything, I mentioned that detail because the person in TN was subject of the article. The pictures all came down and came back up with the stampings covered with photoshop. I’m not mentioning names but be careful when dealing with valuable parts engines and cars. I love mechanical things and I worked hard until I went blind insult to injury the friends I had for 25 years and had helped all I could banned me for life from that forum. They were all in on the joke but me. That was the greatest loss of all. If someone had said, I need your heads really bad to compete in a competition, I would have loaned them to them. But it was a dirty matter where I lost all but one friend. I used my position as a production manager and designer who was very familiar with the engine family and I called Vic Edelbrock and talked him into copying an engine designs heads and intakes. He did and they were his best selling products they made. Later I looked over a set of blueprints for a larger displacement version since strikers because the rage and made improvements from my own research that would make them be on par with any modern engine. Sent them back and requested that my name not be a part of it. He did tell a few people. But the heads were great especially on the strokers and the intakes based on the best factory designs and a fantastic iron block that is capable of handling anything that can be thrown at it. I’m not looking for praise, but I really miss my friends or who I thought were friends. My wife and I are soulmates and we practice mindfulness meditation and doing good for others. I will never give anyone bad advice knowingly and I strive to live life as it should be. Just be honest with yourself and others. I am blind now and a fall broke my left shoulder shattered is a better word. 50 years of hard work and I still dream about it. I love hard work . Dishonesty and disrespect, arrogance are sins that we can all fall prey to and I fear the the things that unify us , that were our net as we walked the tightrope is becoming less trustworthy as used to be. To rob that woman was beyond words to me.

When people come to a place like they advertise to be the expectation is what the market requires.
This lady should at least retain an attorney and recoup some of her money and not just eat her fraudulent loss.
This is not the type of work that brings people to their door. I would imagine there are other unsuspecting former clients who are taking a closer look at work done on their at this point "supposed" restoration.
I believe a lot of people are going to be upset about the frauds this company appears to be. Had they done a proper job with the fuel tank the rest may have gone unnoticed.

This is one of those trucks where the cab corners and body panels are all available (after market) cheap. This so called restoration shop completely ripped her off. Glad you two are making them accountable, the word will get around now.
Hell you can practically build a new truck from all the spare parts they sell now. It's painful to me seeing how janky the repairs are. Don't get me wrong I didn't do a great job replacing the floor in my project car but I replaced all the rotting sections with actual steel. Not fiberglass and chewing gum.
The sad thing is, even with the panels available. They chose to waste more time and labor doing it this way!
Gotta know where those panel’s etc come from. Bud of mine got fenders for his Nova, came from Mexico, not even close, no way to make em fit.
If you're supposed to be that good, you can make any of these metal parts, or Yes, buy them aftermarket, but YOU DO NOT FILL IT IN WITH BONDO.
Their work would have to get better to be described as 'shoddy.'

I love old cars and trucks but will enjoy them from a distance. This kind of stuff is the reason.

She needs to sue the shit out of them. You write up an estimate for repairs and that is what she should sue for. Also everyone needs to spread the word in your area what that company does. Any judge would give her the repair cost plus time and trouble. She should be able to get her full 70k back. Especially if a pro goes to court with pics and video showing the severe hazards they drop on the lady.
Kinda depends on the intelligence of the judge. Some judges are horrible and some are pretty good.

In fact some are thinking Thanksgiving by calculating backwards from Yom Kippur 2029 (the latest year for Jesus' second coming , which is not the rapture but a different event) according to the 80 year fig tree prophecy. But that is no excuse for poor workmanship and cheating a woman.
Cases in superior court take a long long time.
Sometimes the lawyers cost make suing almost impossible and these shops know this. The best way to is videos like this hopefully the word gets out and people stop using them. Social media can work both ways in can build you up or take you down
The whole key to making something like this work is hiring the attorney that has an office directly across from the courthouse. Find the guy that plays golf with the judge and explain the situation to him. Especially in small Midwest citys

A friend of mine does this kind of work. He spent a year spare time doing this gorgeous 55 Chevy. The lady hadn’t been able to drive the car in a decade because multiple shops had been “restoring” it for here. Each time she’d get it back it would be a little more torn apart. Awesome customer, paid as she went… and has 3 more cars waiting for my friend.

COmbined 9 yrs over 20k and still didnt get finished. I only know of one shop I trust...shoulda coughed up th e15k he wanted.

You're exactly right. There is something about the trials, tribulations, long hours of work, ect. that endures us to the final product. Especially after a few years go by.
There is no greater satisfaction then restoring your own vehicle and learning new skills. Even if I had the kind of money this lady spent, I wouldn't pay someone to restore my truck. I enjoy waiting for new parts and learning every nut, bolt and wire on my truck. I'm 2 years into a redneck restoration and every bit of it has been an awesome experience.
You're exactly right Bondo and fiberglass everywhere isn't the proper way to repair rust it actually makes it worse because water gets trapped and makes it worse ,cutting out the rusted metal and replacing it with new metal is the only proper way to repair especially if you're investing significant money into paint .

It's true when he said it was someone's dream, not just an old truck. We all want classics for a reason. Perhaps it was something from our childhood, or brings back memories of something a mother or dad or uncle or aunty drove around and we want to relive that nostalgia and sentimentality. Some of us wait a long time to get into a financial state where we could afford that "dream". It's not fair that people can take advantage of that to kill that dream.
I love the format of these........the one guy playing devil's advocate, the other guy being the straight man. This is straight out of Vaudeville.

There used to be a dealership & "restoration" shop near me, in Lakewood, I think they were called "Golden Classics" that was notorious for crap like this. Buy a basket-case for a couple hundred bucks, bang out the dents, fill the rust holes with Bondo, re-spray it so it looks presentable, and, sell it to some poor sucker as a "frame off restoration" for $20k.

I just finished up 21 years as a combat medic so my talent with this kind of work is tinker level but even I would never do this shit of a job lol I had a 1969 Mustang with the 351W from the age of 16 given to me by my Aunt who passed away on my first deployment. I sent my pay home to have it completely restored and when I got home I found my car had been sold and my signature forged. Now with a wife and kids I couldn’t afford another which wouldn’t have the same sentiment anyway so seeing the care you all takes gives me faith in people ❤

Alot of resto shops count on the vehicles being pampered and kept out of rain/snow/salt so they can take weatherproofing shortcuts. I really appreciate how Kiwi always touches up welds & grinds with paint. And btw, no excuse for a shop that specializes in truck resto not to know that repro panels are available.
Exactly. They count on the vehicle being garaged or trailered and not driven or exposed to weather often. The kinds of things that would quickly expose bad work.

You might think a rogue employee at Possum Holler could have done this...but the shop management should have known. When integrity is lost, it is nearly impossible to regain.
Its a big shiny shop ripping off people with more money than brains in Rutherford and Davidson County TN, no shortage of them there. Probably gonna be making tons of money for years to come.

I've never bought an old car or truck without crawling under the things...! I had a guy get 'scared' when I started pulling out Jack stands and a floor jack... He asked "what are you doing...?" Then proceeded to say that I would not be allowed to jack it up on his property due to 'insurance' reasons... I suggested that we move it into the residential dead-end lane he resided on... But that too was a no-go...! He did not want me to see the undercarriage of his 72 Camaro... I didn't buy it because it looked too good on top and the interior was brand new... Nice shiney,freshly painted small block... I didn't even drive it, but it was pretty...! I hope who ever did buy it didn't get ripped off too badly...! I laugh at shops posting this shit on the dam door, if a shop won't let you see whats going on with your property you shouldn't be at that shop. I always let customers watch me work on there cars as long as they didnt talk to me too much. Whats funny is when you've got 1/2 the inside of a car taken apart and 50 wires to hook up you see jaws drop because your not reading directions. And they a union electrian asks how do you know what goes where? Because ive don't 500k of them.
all the fiberglass just floors me. I have no idea what she spent but I have never done this type of work ever.
I had some stabilization work done on my 1983 Caprice over a decade ago. The shops didn't want to do it but finally agreed but would be as is, no warranty. I have since completed my welding, sheetmetal, and auto body / paint training at the local community college. I went back and removed all the short stranded filler, cut out the bad metal, fabricated new parts, and welded them in. A lot of work cutting, fitting, welding, removing warpage. So the fill jobs that I had done were worth it for a short term fix. But if you want it done right you gotta cut and weld.

Very disappointing, we all work very hard to get the dream, then some hack destroys your dream, I hope after this video the company comes good and fixes this truck.
I went on a interview once for a place because I applied for anyone who was hiring during the recession. Well we are in another one.. But people are hiring this time for now.. Anyway. I had past automotive experience the guy just went on and on and on asking me if I ever ripped anyone off or did work and charge for it but never complete it etc.. I was like "No I did what the customer had on the street " then they went on and was like "What it you saw someone else doing it" I was all "I did so many cars a day so busy I didnt have time to even see that" They didn't like that answer and that prick probably got ripped off by a shop. I think I left it as like "Well if people don't like it and dont trust people they can always spend thousands of dollars on tools and equipment and do it themselves"

In my recent experience, this is actually getting off lucky. Ignoring costs, of course. My son and I recently duped ourselves into a rust-rotted project car. His first car, almost same model as my first, so I have myself to blame for things. Amazing how good a pig can look with a fresh coat of lipstick.
Not crying upset? Oh man, I would have went home and cried there. My car has POR 15 saturated fiberglass in the trunk floor, but I would never pass that off as a restoration move. You are absolutely right when you say her dream was crushed. Anyone profiting from dream crushing deserves to come to ruin.
The beaters get more luv up here in my town. body monkey trying to cheat "0.0"mech skills .scary. no welder in that shop or field?cost of criminal work criminal price and now have to redo it. Cost of repairs in good shop maybe fab shop400$ now to replace 4000$+400$+3000 .in loss of use cab off bed off labour. check the shitty body prep box on the work order means grind it all re paint it all cause it would be crap sticking on crap peeling away in1yr. Too bad the lady has to sue.

Im retired now but I have been in paint and body for over 40 years. I've restored more old cars and trucks than I can remember. Attention to details is the key difference between a good job and one that people will brag about. One early lesson that I learned is to never ask the customer if they want certain unseen items repaired. They're always concerned about keeping the costs down. But your reputation is at stake. So you to have treat the job as if you are the owner. Within reason that is.

Hope there’s an update on this truck and it’s owner. I believe she needs to have this fully documented and get her money back. If this lady reads this, please don’t give up, make yourself whole, then sell it if you choose. Just don’t give up.
The problem is if she sues it's small claims court it's not a criminal offense and even if the ownder wins the the business that did this just refuses to pay and there are no real consequences. It only effects their credit score. False advertising and fraud are legal thanks to Donald Trump and his swamp of a supreme court. All laws now protect dirty business men.

This was a helpful for me as a new classic car restorer. I am still learning how to make things look pretty but I always take the extra time to ensure structural integrity, remove rust, and keep things as close to OEM as possible.
Easy fix for water in the gas tank. Just drill some drain holes in the bottom.

The government won't fuck it up. These bootleg shops NEED regulations to stop or limit the fraud being perpetrated. Start with licenced welders not some guy off the street that tells you he can weld
The Feds would NOT screw it up!. Look at the FAA and aircraft maintenance. That works just fine! I've been an airplane mechanic for over 40 years, and stuff like this just DOESN'T happen. As a mechanic, you are DIRECTLY responsible for the work you do, and you put your name and mechanic number on all the work you do. If there is a problem, there is DEFINITE accountability right back to the person who did the work. These excuses about "Staffing problems" is just PURE B.S.! Any owner of an aircraft shop is EXPECTED to know the quality of work his guys are putting out, and has the responsibility to see that work is done properly. Bad aircraft mechanics are rooted out VERY QUIICKLY. As far as the FAA is concerned, the manager of a shop is JUST AS RESPONSIBLE AS THE MECHANIC, FOR POOR WORK. You HAVE TO know whether your guys are doing quality work or not, and hold them to a high standard.

How in the hell can someone build what looks like such a beautiful truck, and yet make it so damned dangerous with a fuel tank that would have leaked as soon as it was full, the bed would have fallen apart, just...wow. If you can't do the work with quality, do not touch it. I am not a Ford person, and this makes me want to cry because it is a gorgeous truck.
Not that I'm defending them in any way... but I can explain their mentality. So many "frame off restorations" end up being "trailer queens" and "garage decoration". They figured this lady would drive it two or three times in nice weather, then park it in her garage for 20 years. They assumed their "handiwork" wouldn't see the light of day for decades to come. They're scam artists who have clearly been getting away with this crap for years precisely because people don't drive their cars, or maintain their cars, or even look under the hoods of their cars anymore.
A lot of places focus on making it shiny and pretty without really paying attention to it working or being done properly. I’ve even met a few people who just think that’s the way it is with old cars. They think they’re supposed to have problems and not work.
Even if the vehicle was only going to be driven on the weekend, maybe once a month, that truck was dangerous. The way I see it, if these fools that charge so much are going to frame off restore a vehicle, there are NO excuses for doing what was done to this truck. Her very first drive, if she had filled that fuel tank, it could have puked gasoline all over the road and likely on to her just filling it. The bed looked like it was ready to fall apart or just straight up come off the back, which is a danger to anyone following behind her. And the fact these shops do this, makes me think they should have to put their own lives on the line with the vehicles that they built as their new daily drivers. Let them hurt or kill themselves with their own half-assed work. I have no remorse for scammers, especially when the safety of people is on the line. I have a shitbox 30 year old Honda Civic that I saved from going to scrap 9 years ago, I prioritize making sure it is safe if not for myself, then for those around me on the road at the very least. I have less than $4,000.00 total invested, and I have made sure the car stops and turns correctly and that nothing on it will make it a danger to those around. This lady had tens of thousands, I am sure, poured into the restoration of this truck, and I wouldn't let my worst enemies drive that death trap as it is/was. Trailer queen, or daily driver, if it is to move under its own power for any amount of time on the road or a track, or just on and off a trailer, there is a minimum amount of safety that needs to be thought of. And this poor truck had none of that. It makes me sick. And I would LOVE to have a nice long chat with the dirt bag pieces of crap that built that truck. If it was too far gone to be fixed correctly, they should have said something. Or, been more upfront with the budget to fully make the truck right.
@@NBSV1 funny how everybody has that mentality nowadays the most reliable cars I had were from the 80s and older and when they did have a problem they gave you plenty of warning and you could usually fix it on the side of the road while all the newer cars ive had usually fail without warning and need expensive sensors or a whole computer that has to be programmed

I'm with Tony. On my car that nobody else drives or rides in, I'll rig up anything to keep it going. But if I'm working on anyone else's car. Everything has to be right. And if I notice something wrong while I'm doing an unrelated repair, I let the owner know. So even if they don't want me to fix it, they know about it.

100% agreed. I always look at it this way. Doing it right is the only way. If the client can't afford to have it done right, then we can't work together. And another thing. The client may take it somewhere else and other shops always love to bad mouth other shops, nature of the beast. So, I never give then that chance. Do it once, do it right. And remember, charge accordingly. Never work for free.
Thank you gentlemen for sharing your knowledge of what we should be looking for in a proper restoration. The shop who completed this work deserves to be taken to court and ordered to repay this woman and have their license revoked. They certainly don’t put much value on human life if they attempt to pass off fiberglass as structural components of a vehicle. 👍🇨🇦

This video made me re-evaluate my perception of my work. I bought a 57 F100 in pieces and did a complete frame off restoration with upgrades. My truck was a hundred time better then this and I beat myself up because I was not satisfied with my work. I ended up selling if for $16K. I guess I still live in the 70's in my mind.

You are exactly right Tony, safety first if someone else is gonna be involved. You proved that with Lamchop, Al and the Jet boys. Everything you did with those cars, Plan Z, and even the Miata, it was always “build it right first, make it safe”
I enjoy your videos on this subject. I have learned so much about what to look for. There are so many scams out here. Unfortunately, this also happens in many other areas, such as house remodeling. It looks pretty until the tub fails through the floor 🙄.

In 1969 I took a '56 Ford wagon that had been in the family since '57 to a body shop with the instructions to "Replace all the rust with metal, complete the body work and prime it". When I got the car back and started to take a really good look at it, I found masking tape over the rust holes and body filler over the tape. Sad part is, I had stopped at the shop a few times and, because I didn't look for the right things, didn't catch the shoddy work. So, I started learning the skills needed to do the work myself. Started with welding and panel fabrication. Now, 5050+ years later (OK, 50+. Thanks @Zach-sg5uu! Edited 05-27-2024), I do everything but engine machine work and automatic transmission overhauls on my own cars and trucks. Shops that do work like shown here really piss me off.

Even if you’re able and willing to pay the shop to do a engine rebuild. The shop will be too lazy and try to say it’s not worth the money. Holding on to most cars from 2012 or older is usually worth the money compared to any of the new ones!!
Plus they are cheaper to maintain!
Great video, so sad this stuff happens all the time. Seen much of stuff like this at several "classic" car dealers in my area. Really got to go over every inch these old vehicles. Plenty of them on eBay with everything underneath the car rattle canned painted including the exhaust, suspension, etc....

One of the lessons to be learned here, do in person progress checks. If you show up every week you can see exactly what they're doing and it's harder to hide stuff like this. Even if you're not that mechanically savy, you'll see the fiberglass contrasting with bare metal before its covered in paint. You'd see the rotted bed rails before the wood floor is in place. Bring a more knowledgeable friend with you if needed. If you see something fishy, ask a friend, the internet, anyone but the shop. Then the shop can either fix it or you can take your project somewhere else before the bill gets any higher. Worst thing to do is drop off a project and wait for the "it's finished" phone call.
You can also see that 3 weeks of "labor" billed was in fact 3 weeks of beer drinking, or worse working on another client's project.
You assume the average "more bucks than brains" customer would have a clue what they're looking at. Wander past any body shop you see bondo "skim coat" leveling. Every boat has "structural fiberglass" work. A good talker is going to convince your average pigeon "this is how its done". But, you also have to look at what the final purpose of the "restoration" is supposed to be. If this truck was supposed to be a "static indoor display" piece, it's pretty ok. If it's supposed to be "restored to factory fresh, roadworthy" condition, it's complete butchery. Betcha the butcher shop even uses puffery like "museum quality restoration" as lawsuit insulation.

The trouble is that once the shop has your vehicle, they can hold you to ransom; if you don't accept the work and pay the price, they can hold your vehicle until you pay or dispose of it if you refuse to pay.

I remember an old guy back in the 90s telling me to always move the steering wheel of an old truck to make sure the cab didn't move back and forth with it. If it did, then the cab mounts were rusted out and the steering column was supporting the cab.
Back in the day, I did a series of articles over 3 years in a national magazine on restoration taking it from the day you brought it home to the paint booth at the end, trying to direct people on how to choose a proper shop, because not everyone can do everything themselves, and getting things done at other shops can be frustrating at best, and a nightmare at worst.
This truck shows that, and I'll bet the "restoration" shop took advantage of the fact that she's a woman...and won't know the difference. That's truly a shame, and I'm glad y'all are calling out the culprits, even though in the end the damage is done and there's no reversing it.

Some shops don't really know what their mechanics are doing either. I experienced this recently. The owner was a great guy, but staffing was an issue. I showed the owner some of the work, he did give me a discount. The problem with jobs like restoration is that the people working on it have to wear too many hats. You can't take a mechanic and get him to do body work. A lot of people underestimate the time and money it takes, to do it to even a minimum standard
It's like they started out to do it right, got into more body/frame repair than they bargained for, and did what they could to stay on budget, in the end cutting massive corners
There is no budget for a full of frame restriction. You have no idea what's involved until you do it. That's why you charge by the hour for every hour . Be it 1500 hours or 2500 hours. I've spent almost 100 hours one 1 fender.

I looked at Squarebody Chevy for sale not long ago that actually was repaired with road signs. Not a frame off by any stretch but it did look decent from a distance until you got under it. I hadn't seen road sign repairs for quite a while. lol

I'm restoring a 1967 F250, when i bought it i saw just a couple rust bubbles, i thought it was gonna be an easy fix. At first i wanted to do a Vice Grip Garage floor pan repair but ended up having to do a frame off to change both front cab mount, part of the floor and part of the passenger door frame. When you see a rust bubble its just the tip of the iceberg.
I had a Emberglow 66 F250 custom cab camper special, wish I'd never sold it 24yrs ago after a break-up with a long term girlfriend, and couldn't drive everything back home to my state from Colorado..smh..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇲🤠
That happened to me on my 75 f250 4x4 over the summer. Started out just trying to replace a inner fender apron. Both floorpans and cab mounts and front clip later.😭🤣
Lmao 🤣 so true got a 1964 lemans with my dad as a father son project. Started with some fiberglass in the quarter panel. 5 months later full floor pan, new quarter, lower bottom end of quarter panel fender lip both sides all 4 wheel wells replaced. The more you dig the more shit you have to address without turning it into a hack job.

I've known a few shops that will restore, refurbish and repair old vehicles and motorcycles. They tell people up front if they need to ask how much it'll cost then they probably can't afford it due to the amount of work that's required and the cost for hard to find parts. They do keep a photo album of each vehicle they've done that shows their process from start to finish along with the parts list with prices paid to give them an idea of what they might be spending. Most of their clients would drop off their vehicle with instructions on how they wanted it back and to contact them when they needed some money. A restoration was where it was completely dissambled for cleaning, inspection, repair or replacement then reassembled. What you got back was a vehicle in like new condition since all rust, corrosion and original coating had been removed down to clear bare metal. Refurbished was replacing and reparing what was needed so it would look like a well maintained old vehicle. Repaired was getting something running again, replacing some components so it could be driven/ridden safely and touching up paint while cleaning up the rest to keep the old vintage patina. These guys made their money operating a regular business where they charged the going rate so they could charge less for working on the old vehicles. They did that when work was slow in their shop, afterhours and🎉 on weekends with their young trainees doing much of the work under supervision to learn the craft.

Engines, transmissions, rear ends, body work, glass, front end alignments. The man that taught me body work, was a Corvette specialist according to his sign. I learned to do fiberglass, how to fabricate steel for replacement parts, he used to buy cars that were rollovers and and fabricate window pillars, panels, that's where I also learned how to install glass,how to use lead, Bondo was a bad word. I hate shabby body work.

It's a kind of sound reduction filler, gives the doors a reassuring "thunk" as opposed a rattly clatter, when you close them and also provides some side impact protection and radiation shielding too.

This kind of BS happens everywere all over the world. I'm working on Land Rovers for over 20 years,both very old and newer models and we see this stuff on a regular basis....
And i know how gutted you feel when you have to phone the owner about what's wrong with his/her car while they always thought they had done repairs well....in my line of work a lot of older Land Rovers are really the owners"Baby" as we call it overhere . So you also have to have a very special way to interact with these kind of people. It's just hearth breaking to see how that shop thought that this is the best way a frame off restoration would be like...

When he is talking about the cost to bring it up to par, and make it safe, my best guess would be that it would actually cost more than the original restoration. You literally would have to go through an undo everything that's been done to it before you can repair it properly. I could see a major lawsuit coming out of this if somebody was driving it and was seriously injured because in an accident, maybe even a minor accident, it would fail in places that it shouldn't. I would say that the shop that did the work should have to pay 100% of another restoration. But I don't know whether that would wake them up or just piss them off. A true crime.

This is the guy that likes those huge GHETTO PIMPMOBILE REHUUMS. The first thing I noticed about that truck is that it had the proper size wheels and tires on it. It's a shame about the rest of it, but at least it looks beautiful without the 30 inch ghettos.
