      Hi I just passed yesterday in rig same as video. You are allowed two shunts This vehicle on here was very close to crossing line. You are allowed to get out and check once without being penalised. I took one shunt a long one because I had overcooked the Getting the back around the pole. I got a minor for a shunt you get a fail for not doing it. I went close to line I was actually just in but I took it back a couple of inches or so just to make sure. So if like me you end up arriving at line slightly different angle a couple or so times When your marker is there it may have gone too far It happened to a bloke just the day before he failed So I took time get out the cab and check when I was close.. Follow your dream and if you are careful to err on the side of caution or not at all you will pass easily.

    Ideally you could count to 10 from when doing the right lock then do the full left lock left lock when you get to 10 ?

    I found it easier to just parallel park the unit a couple of feet from the line. This give you your bend. Then opposite lock to straighten up. Then feather it round the post. Just find the easiest way that gets you through. Good luck.

    Are you allowed to steer whilst stationary? You're not allowed dry steering in the C test.

    I don't have a HGV license yet .... but . when your reversing into the bay could you not move toward a bit if you needed too ? I mean that what you would do in a job if your not alined right . hoping to do my class 2 and 1 back to back once I get my case study's done .. So any advise would be great .

    • @TheBabicman
      @TheBabicman Před 5 lety +1

      Yes. This is known as a shunt. You are allowed to shunt twice and look once. So ideally you want to be straight going in. Do not rush it. A lot of people go to fast which is why they don't know when to turn. You want to be moving at less than a walking pace so you have plenty of time to add small steering adjustments when necessary. Best of luck. (If you have passed already than congratulations)

    Can I just ask.
    I failed my Class 1 Reversing exercise today. When you put on your full right hand lock, when the marker on your bulk head of trailer appears, do you immediately engage a steer to the left to straighten up and become parallel with the line? This is all I have seen via youtube.
    I failed because I have been told the following "Full Right hand lock until marker appears on bulk-head of trailer. Keep the marker where it us until the back left side of the trailer looks as though it's touching the far left cone". This is what I tried to do on test, and my cab (right hand wheels) were on the right hand line (kerb) way before I could turn left as I was trying to get my trailer to look as though it's touching the cone.
    Everywhere I've looked online, no where does it say to keep the marker where it is while moving, everywhere seems to say as soon as you see the marker, start steering to the left to until your cab wheels are parallel with the line and keep moving parallel until your whole vehicle is in a straight line.
    Have I been misinformed in the way I've been told to do this? Does it matter if my rear-left of trailer doesn't look as though it's touching the front left cone of the "Garage"? What is the most important point with the marker? Should I keep it where it is while I move back, or just steer left as soon as it appears?
    I don't want to fail again so all help is appreciated!

      I had exactly same trouble I took a massive shunt forward and backed it about thirty yards minor adjustments opposite lock. Nailed It.

    • @paulenglish6383
      @paulenglish6383 Před 6 lety

      I am going to answer your question You don't steer left till cone appears level with trailer wheels "as you are actually driving backwards around the cone and depending how far the cone is then to the right of you. You can then decide how early and how much left to give it to get the back going toward the "garage" Its probably a good idea to straighten up unit before back gets to garage because I am told the whole unit has to be straight to qualify

      I actually Only passed my artic test yesterday with four minors. I had tried class one around 1995 when I could have not had to take rigid first. Three times I tried and failed driving but never failed the reversing once. Not good but Take a shunt if you gotta

      Hi Micky, thanks for your question.
      Yes, you can dry steer on your test without being penalised. Although it is beneficial to avoid dry steering whenever possible to help reduce undue wear and tear on the vehicle.
