From May 5 to 10, Chinese President Xi Jinping is making state visits to France, Serbia, and Hungary. This is the first visit to Europe by China's head of state in nearly five years. Xi's upcoming state visit is a major diplomatic event for Serbia, bringing new hopes for the country's development and heralding a new era for China-Serbia cooperation eight years after his last visit, when Serbia became China's first comprehensive strategic partner in Central and Eastern Europe. In this edition of Leaders Talk, CMG's Zhang Ying sat down with Aleksandar Vučić, President of Serbia, to discuss how this visit will be an opportunity to further consolidate the ironclad friendship between the two countries, deepen political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, and open a new chapter in bilateral relations. Vučić also talks about his personal relationship with President Xi, whom he describes as a "true friend" and a "man of his word," and hints at "big surprises" during President Xi's visit.

BRICS is just a talking place with a fancy name. It's not a economic or a military alliance. Even China is not up for any public alliance with anyone on political basis.

As a proud Serbian, and that I am, I welcome our friendship. We were, together, the victims of NATO turning into an aggressive military alliance in 1999. Serbia is a small country and our people total no more than 10 million worldwide... But just like the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings were 'small and insignificant', we had our historical moments of heroism. Being small but proud and resilient, we came to understand the importance of The League of Nations, and now the United Nations. If there is no justice, if there is no independent international law, then small countries are to become prey to the strong. Then the rule of power replaces the rule of law. This planet hosts over 200 countries and most of them are small, most of them were colonies. Most of them were exploited and subjugated. And since the 'fastest speed of a group of people is exactly equal to the fastest speed of its slowest member' we can only move forward by helping each other. There is a HUGE responsibility on China in the next few decades. Our hopes and wishes lie in your hands, for you will shape this planet and its relations. Let us listen to each other and create a world that we all hoped for so long that the United States of America wanted to create... But didn't. I hope China will overcome the 'call of the ring of power' in a more mature way. Good luck!

It's ok, we have had 5,000 years of practice in dealing with the allure of the ring of power. Bad rulers don't stay in power for long. we have a term called mandate of heaven. On this day, 7 May 1999, Chinise Ambassy was "mistakenly" hit (bombed), where Chinese citizens died.

I never knew that China saved a massive steel plant in Serbia! Frankly I didn't know their working relationship at all. It's great to see it being fruitful and it inspires to visit Serbia.
Not just Steel Plant, they saved 4 or 5 Ex-Yugoslav (how we call them) gigant companies in Serbia, ofc by save we mean they purchased those companies but still, we were only loosing money and now those are greatest contributors to our GDP grow and economy. By the way that Steel Plant that China saved used to be operated by USA company, they drained everything they could out of it, never invested any money to modernize the plant and then left with first crisis on the market.

Actually Serbia is not Western at all, we fought the whole west, NATO in the 1999 war. We are south-eastern slavic european country.
I understand his affection because Balkans and Serbia especially got from Europe after fall of Yugoslavia very hard times: first NATO bombardment, humiliation then subjugation and fall in living standards. I hope for better future for Balkan nations including Serbia

Interesting that when Xi was visiting Macron, he seemed tense and uncomfortable. Visiting Serbia and Vucic, in particular, Xi seemed more at ease and relaxed.

I love CGTN reporter, they allow the interviewee the opportunity to speak freely without interruption unlike the Western report that question in a such a way, that narrate a story to their Views. Most a lot of time cut of people speech and interrupts the speech to sidetracked the interviews. I don't watch Western news anymore..

To export Serbian wines to China, you really need to upscale the production, you know, the whole yearly production could be sold out in 10 seconds in Taobao or Douyin. I am not joking.
We are bound, in terms of production scale, by our size but also by the traditional practices of wine production. Winemaking in Serbia has a long and to a certain degree sacral tradition and in exporting terms, we are offering uniqueness and quality over quantity.
