Paul Rivera is so awesome! I have a TBR-1 already, and last night my new TBR-1SL arrived. Man, she sings! The dirty channel versatility is killer. Next I want a TBR-2SL to add to my TBR collection :) The Pcomp can be what you want it to be. You can use it to slam the input on one channel harder, giving you another tweak verses the gain knob. This really isn't anything like any mesa I have played, and I have owned a few (Mark III, DC10, triple rec). These TBR amps are unique beasts
Paul , you , your son , and your amplifiers , are standouts in a world that of late is full of both amazing people and amazing products . I could listen to you or your son talk about anything music related all day long . I am looking forward to owning my first Rivera amp . Now the question is wich one .
I have an original TBR-1 from the first year of production. The foot pedal is labeled with a label gun. I took me awhile to learn how to dial this thing in. I also rigged a cable to plug into the footswitch port that I could connect to a midi patch bay so I could channel switch it with Midi commands. I have dearly loved this amp for over 30 years.
These Rivera Amps are the "Abrams M1A2 Main Battle Tank" of the guitar amp world! It will take on all and come out the winner! It is the most versatile guitar amplifier ever made.
when ones mans genius is so transcendent that his product merely proves the shortcommings of the various speaker options his amps are paired with its brilliant. The amps are soo damn good and demand such a high standard of cabs/speakers and pedal setups. These amps are one of those setups that will outlive any cab lmao or even guitar. Theyre that good.
Greatest master volume high gain amplifier ever created in amp history... listen to Skid Row's Slave to the Grind for more information. The TBR-1 needs to be reissued. Nuff sed
For sure, one of the greatest sounding guitar amps.Owning a TBR 1 myself,i know all the options and how to use them. Also the TBR 5 320HAMMERHEAD poweramps are amazing, owning 2 of them, one for a bassguitar bi amp system(with an Aquilar DB 680 and Ampeg SVT 50 DL cabs) ,the other connected to a pair of modified UREI 813B studiomonitors.
I always gravitated to the Rivera sound but tended to stick with Paul's simpler designs.Had each amp come with a tiny Paul to guide me through the operation of the rack features however,it would probably have been a different story.
I have both a TBR1M and a TBR3SL, they are not going anywhere!!! They are so flexible and sound so good, but they are not light, but you can't have everything.
Too bad these guys have to get older, excellent talk through and also excellent knowledge. CBS was the worst thing for Fender and they should of never go into it.
I believe his clean tones are some of the best made, but his OD is an acquired taste IMO. I have a Clubster, with a 10 inch Tone Tubby Alnico, and it rivals my original '65 Deluxe Reverb for cleans. With a line out, I can gig that amp anywhere, and for around 500 bucks used, it's an amazing bargain.
I feel a little guilty pointing this out , but didn't Bogner just come out and say he introduced the pre loop ? that's funny . I like some of Bogner amplifiers , but wow Rivera is impressive .
Thanks Don, yes, Paul Sr was first in 1986 on the TBR and even further back in 1979 when consulting for Yamaha. Also, first to have pickup compensation (PCOMP). Another factoid dating back to 1979 was being the first to have actual channel switching with separate EQ on the Pignose Crossmix and then later on Rivera branded TBRs 1986.
Jeez...look at that frickin' dinosaur. (the amp, not the man) Too many knobs, too many components (WAY too many components) all sucking just a tiny bit of tone. And at the end of the day, you wonder why your tone sounds dull. If you pick up something like a Dr Z Carmen Ghia...it' probably has less than 15 components inside. And it's tone is great, and it's really dynamic. Same thing goes for a 5e3 Fender circuit.
Actually, you'd be amazed. Absolute best cleanest amp I ever owned/played. Better than black face, 5e3, Dr. Z. absolutely amazingly versatile. When I got mine, it had a unique chip, unrecognized by even Rivera amp tech. Apparently built by Paul senior before Rivera production - fat caps after many years of use - tone heaven. I sent it back to Rivera to have it overhauled. It's now with all new top notch tubes and new caps. The Rivera tech told me it's now a new $3K military grade amp. Can't replace it. It shakes my sound proof room with one EV12L. Like a concert in my basement. Unbelieva le tone monster.
My M-60 is the best amp I have ever owned! I've had it for 20 years and have never looked for another amp! Thanks Paul!
Paul is the MAN, love his amps.

2:15 "especially since they were going to be built in my garage"
awesome.

Care to share how you dial it in? Struggling with mine
Paul Rivera is the best guitar ampli engineer.

I still have one of his amps,, Fender Concert Re-Issue. I bought it new in 1983
Tone guru to the stars......the legend looms large
Very interesting
I had a TBR-1 i loved it but was a bit to vintage sounding for my needs. I think the rivera's TBR series are the mother of all modern amps
Just scored a mint time capsule M100 combo with F5 footswich. Unfortunately, there's not much information about them online.
Very helpfull vid! Love learning this shit! cool amps!

I have a TBR 1m. Words do not do this amp justice.

What a down to earth guy.
I remember seeing the price on that thing back in the day. Out of my range for sure.
I agree to...

pcomp is more or less what volume is to the mesa boogie marks (input volume...).
Mr Rivera I am the owner of a TBR-2 I wonder if its possible to get the service manual for this amp or at least the schematics. thank you.
but an effects loop pre distortion?! Cool...!
Aloha... !!!
The man knows his stuff lol
@wingedmonkeyboy Just contact Rivera via his website.
Hi everyone, who can provide me TBR-1SL manual? power? valves? in an original condition.. Thanks!
...wish I still had my M100
TBR-1 Want

ooops. wrong vid. Just wished i could have bought that Super Champ years ago.
I've always wanted a Knucklehead Reverb. I know I will never afford one.
I didn't understand if this is just a power amp or a complete amp...
It is a complete amplifier. When he says the words combination amplifier that means a combination of preamp & power amp, just like an amplifier head.
No amp manufacturer gave credits to RCA.
Triaxis

Idiot. You’ve never used one for a long period of time if ever have you
