I fully agree with Herb's stoppage of the Lawler vs Askren fight. You can hear the crowd react to his arm going limp and that was an extremely tight bulldog choke.
I wasn't aware the crowd decides when to stop a fight. Lawler gave herb dean a thumbs up. Know your history, kid.

Everyone thought Robbie was out when his arm went limp, even the commentators. that thumbs up was only seen for a split second and by that point, Herb thought Robbie already passed out. and lastly, protect yourself at all times. Robbie wasn't actively defending the choke. (not trying to separate Ben's hands) Ten more seconds and he would have been finished regardless.

Early days of MMA allowed a ton of shit that isn’t legal nowadays. It was more of a street fight with people who are actually trained vs the sport we see today.

Exactlt- the only possible outcomes of such a flip would either be striking Price on the way back to the ground or missing entirely, giving Price time to recover or react. Strange move to sure🤔

I remember in bjj class the instructor stopped a match with me and asking if I was okay, and I was like "yeah, why'd you stop it. Everything was normal." The next day I had a head ache so bad I couldn't even move my eyes or my head would hurt worse. I had to close my eyes to turn my head. I swear I never even felt like I was in danger.
I boxed a friend once, I wasn't doing too well but after one of the rounds I said "I feel like I did better, that one could probably get scored either way". My brother asked about the insane right hook I got hit with. I was confused because I didn't think I took any big right hooks. I watched the recording and I got absolutely blasted and retained no memory of it, complete standing KO. Turns out he even completely stopped hitting me until my brain rebooted and threw a shitty jab. The brain does some weird stuff with your perspective when it gets shut off.

2:40 This guy needs a lifetime ban for throwing all those extra punches just to add insult to (literal) injury. MMA isn't a "game" you're playing with someone's LIFE. The sport is already insanely dangerous by default. Doing crap like that is just putting the receiver's life at more risk. Extra punches when someone is out? They're already unconscious. That means you've already managed to rack the brain into temporary shut-off. Throwing extras could easily cause bleeding in the brain. You could easily paralyze someone or even outright kill them.

The Ellenburger stoppage has always been one of the weirdest fight endings in UFC history. I almost forgot that Masvidal has a TKO by opponent foot entanglement in the cage.
I’ve always thought the Ellenberger “stoppage” was just a weird mishandling. I fully believe Masvidal was going to win that fight regardless, but it seemed like once the fence thing happened the officials panicked and just basically wanted to scoot everyone out of there

Robbie Lawler finish was exactly like his first fight with Nick Diaz where he went out for just a couple seconds and the ref stopped the fight and Robbie instantly gained consiousness.
When it comes to the “was Robbie out” conversation. I always go in favor of the ref because fighters will fight with broken limbs and not admit that they are broken to continue fighting. Dude was out. If he was called out. That’s just my opinion of a guy who doesn’t watch enough or train. Take it how you will.

The askren vs lawler stoppage will always be one I agree with but it is so weird, I think askren started letting up towards the end so lawler had came to right as he let go. The "thumbs up" really just looks like natural hand positioning. That arm was limp.

Robbie went out. I have always been a Lawler fan, and I wanted him to beat Askren just as much as everyone else did, but nobody drops their hand like that mid choke. Never. You always defend and try to advance your position, as Robbie has done literally every other time he has been tied up. Either way, solid call by Herb Dean, and extremely solid will power from Askren to survive Robbie's barrage. Props to Lawler for taking the loss like a man.
