I love how all the guys are weirded out by the obvious gay subtext, but Rana is _totally_ into it. Please continue watching Yuri On Ice! There's more to it than just the gay stuff, dudes. The show is short, but hilarious and heartwarming.
I can't believe this is the crew to watch this show...when I saw the thumbnail, I figured the guys probably have NO idea about YOI AT ALL cuz I doubt they would watch it if they did. I'm betting at least 2-3 of the guys are gonna drop out before its over...if they even continue watching the show at all. I would love to be proven wrong but not gonna hold my breath. They definitely need Chris in on this...he tends to be more open-minded and comfortable with that kind of subtext.

I want them to watch this show so badly but they definitely feel uncomfortable during the gay moments and keep thinking it as “friends” and lmao that makes ME uncomfortable. They are gay af fam.

to be fair, they are right about the closeness and stuff being a staple of the genre to appeal to women. when YoI was airing this was just about the reaction (with a lot of, fair, accusations of queerbaiting thrown in)
HeartofTeFiti compared to most animes on the lgbt spectrum their relationship was very well done. There were sexual moments but the characters bonded emotionally before escalating unlike most lgbt animes. AND the creators have confirmed various times that it isn’t queerbaiting its def a gay romance (and u know, they got literally engaged in ep 10 lmao)

But no, I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. After you watch the whole show it is very clearly not queerbaiting (though creators, in general, are not a good source to trust on if it is or isn't). I meant that while it was airing the accusations were fair because it was reasonable to think that they wouldn't actually get together. So i'd say the episodes before what happened in China were fair game to criticize from that angle. After that the conversation shifted to censorship and what is 'real' representation (how implicit is explicit enough in a heteronormative society?). But i could talk about that for hours, so i'm gonna stop.
Point is, while the accusations were fair at the time, I completely agree that their relationship is one of the best in the genre, and, imo, one of the best in mainstream anime.
I really want u guys to continue this show! I love it so much and I think u guys will like it a lot

This whole anime is fan service and the worst kind. they had a chance to do some really great LGbTq+ series and this what we got . A self insert YA fan fic. sigh. I think what you meant was that this wasn't queer baiting. queer baiting and fan service are different things

Westerners only want their brand of queer or for the queer scene of other cultures to be like the American one. If it is not flying rainbows, it is not LGBT enough for them.

I personally enjoy the Japanese voice actors for Yuri on ice especially Yuuri’s but the Dub is ok-ish it won’t stop me from watching the reactions but I will cringe a little. By the way Yuuri’s female childhood friend is married and the three girls are her daughters.
Yeah imo subbed is always superior to dubbed
keandric 2 I wouldn’t say that but I find that dub is hit or miss so I usually automatically go sub. I liked Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood’s and Death Note’s to name two but I’ve found that some dubs are pretty good until I hear the main characters voice. Some of the jokes don’t land the same and overall I prefer subs over dubs but I don’t think it’ll ruin there reaction overall. I do think more often than not Japanese voice actors can emote a lot better than English but I also think it depends on what your introduction to dub and sub were. For example I grew up watching Naruto dub but in the middle of Shippuden switched to sub just because they aired earlier. From what I understand Naruto’s dub isn’t as hated as let’s say Attack on Titan so I feel like my first introduction to dub vs sub wasn’t to extreme if that makes any sense. I also think there is a difference between a bad dub or a incredible sub. Take Haikyuu for example I heard the dub and didn’t think it was to bad but because I’m used to the incredible voice acting from the sub I definitely think that the sub makes the show as a whole better.
You have to admit that the dub is hilarious tho. I usually like subs better but in this case I might have to give it to the dub because of those ridiculous fucking accents 😂
@@keandric2765 There are very rare instances where top tier voice acting meets a western setting and inspired script that can push it over the original language, but Japanese voice actors are really good in general. So you will rarely get an English speaking voice actor on the same level, let alone the inspired translation.
I think the setting is what makes a dub work the most. Western set stories with styles more reminiscent of high end cartoons will have a much easier time with western dubs. Just like how an anime inspired western work can be given a Japanese dub and have it work.
it just takes so much to make a dub work that you basically need the original to be off for the dub to stand up.

Sadly this anime gets judged rather quickly off the bat, as if the main romance being gay is all it's going to be about.
It's a lovely series that really sticks to its skating premise and has alot more to offer outside of Victor and Yuri's relationship.

Figure skating is BIG in Japan and East Asia in general (and Russia). Yuzuru Hanyu (Japanese skater) is a 2 time world champion and 2 time Olympic medalist now. He established new world records in skating 18 times already and he's just 25. He has LOTS of fans around the world (him being a cutie helps 😁).

the thing is, everyone starts it of as a "feel good" anime but halfway through the intensity of it changes and all the people who were meh about it end up being so excited/crying and living through all the emotions. i do hope you continue this!

On a serious note it is a very genuine anime that focuses on anxiety, determination, and love... it has real depth with certain characters, especially when you get to the episodes with the Grand Prix Finals! The story is also beautiful and I would 100% love to watch your reactions!

Honestly, I’m so disappointed that you guys can’t appear to get past the love story or the sexualisation of the men and just appreciate this story beyond that, considering you CAN do so in other shows when other characters are sexualized. What’s so different about this one? If you can look past sexualized figures in other shows, why can’t you for this one? And if you can seemingly enjoy romances in other shows, why can’t you enjoy this one? I know you guys won’t see this, or respond to it, but I feel it is a fair question ask, and a fair comment to give this reaction and the subsequent halting of reactions for this show after. Why are you so uncomfortable? It’s honestly just disappointing.
It's so obvious that it's only because there's gays in it. They've been fine with sooooooo much worse sexualization with female characters and romance in general and they were so into the concept early on until they realized there's gonna be some level of gay content in it. They're so pathetic.

In Japanese, "katsu" means "win". Pork Cutlets bowls are called "katsudon" and some people eat it before or after a competition they want to win/did win. Yuri Katsuki's surname is also a play on this.
Btw the original Japanese don't have accents, they just sprinkle in Russian words here and there.
